2015. good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. one wall street analyst summed up yesterday's stock roller coaster this way. there is a lot of fear in the markets. wall street was clobbered by a stunning sell-off that started in china and spread to markets worldwide. this morning, china's main stock index collapsed again. china shanghai composite index nose-dived for the third day in a row losing over 7.5% of its value. japan's nikkei lost 4% of its value. yesterday, the dow jones industrials closed 588 points lower, the s&p 500, slid 77 points. the nasdaq we will 179. jill wagner it he is new york stock exchange. good morning, jill. >> good morning. we could be in for another wild ride on wall street today and investors say this is mostly about china.

>> reporter: china's main market plunged again this morning. one day after stocks suffered their biggest tumble in eight years. the massive sell-off triggered by fears of an economic slowdown in the country. >> part of the real issue is we don't generally feel like we know what is going on in china on a good day and this isn't a good day. >> reporter: the turbulence in asia sent markets around the world in a tail spin. on monday the dow plunged more than a thousand points in the first few minutes of trading and briefly rallied back. analysts say instead of being concerned, investors should focus on diversifying. >> if you're focusing on retirement your portfolio is upside down. if you're young, keep pouring money into the market. this will work its way out in the end.

>> reporter: the obama administration has called on china to move toward a more market determined exchange rate. the issue is expected to be raised when china's president visits the white house next month. most analysts say it's now less likely the federal reserve will raise interest rates in september. >> thank you, jill. the three americans who subdued a gunman on a paris-bound train are getting used to life as international heroes. airman first class spencer stone is being treated in a military hospital in germany. he is being nominated for the prestigious airman's medal. national guardsman alek skarlatos is staying with spencer and yesterday anthony sadler took in a movie. >> two days ago we were just on a train and two days later, all this is happening. it's pretty crazy.

>> sadler returns to the u.s. today. a parade is being planned for all three men and the gunman is expected to be formally charged today. there are increasing signs vice president joe biden is seriously considering a presidential run. a source tells cnn, president obama gave biden his blessing during the their lunch meeting yesterday. biden was expected to meet with top political aides last night. craig boswell has more. >> reporter: vice president joe biden is back at the white house amid increasing debate over whether he is considering a presidential run. biden sat down with president obama for their weekly lunch. >> their conversations tend to be wide ranging and they cover everything from work to family. i'll leave it to you to decide whether or not this decision facing the vice president falls in those categories. >> reporter: biden added intrigue with a weekend meeting with elizabeth warren believed to be a discussion about a possible candidacy. >> all of the talk right now is about biden, will he or won't he. >> i think it's pretty clear that all of the democrats

running no matter who the democratic nominee is, that is the policy that they are going to carry forth into the general election. >> reporter: hillary clinton is the current democratic front-runner but she continues to be dogged by controversy over her personal e-mail server during her time as secretary of state. senator bernie sanders the leading challenger to clinton in the polls says biden's entry into the race won't change his campaign. >> i will, as i have done up to now, run and issue an oriented campaign. have children in the united states get the benefits of american citizenship. this morning, tensions have eased on the korean peninsula after north and south korea reached a deal to end a military standoff. following more than two days of talks, north korea expressed regret that south korean soldiers were woundedly land mines and south korea ended anti-propaganda broadcasts. this morning, the auto racing world is mourning the death of indy car driver justin wilson. wilson died last night following an injury he suffered at pocono raceway sunday. debris from another car hit wilson in the head. wilson wilson's car then hit the wall. indy officials say he was respected by teammates and officials alike. >> justin's elite ability to drive a race car was matched by his unwavering kindness and character and humility. >> he is the first indy car driver to die electric an

on-track accident since 2011. wilson was 37 years old and he is fifed bysurvived by a wife and two daughters. this wildfire season is shaping up to be one of the worst on record. so far across the west 600 square miles have burned and the most burned by this state in a fire season in a decade. in washington the biggest fire in the state history has burned at least 400 square miles and destroyed 200 homes. some residents ignored evacuation orders to save their homes. >> fire was coming from that way, 40-mile-an-hour winds and i didn't think there was any hope. >> active duty soldiers, as well as firefighters from australia and new zealand are helping fight the washington wildfires. a tropical storm erica is expected to strengthen and

and at one point she ran on the wrong side of the highway. a trooper rammed the car and caused it to rollover. police arrested peterson when she tried to carjack other drivers. they believe she was on drugs and suffering from a mental illness. police recognize a man who helped capture a trooper. steven vincent arrived on the scene of a truck in a ditch sunday. police say the truck's driver kevin daigle shot the trooper and he later today. robert ladoux was driving near the scene and despite warngs warnings he ran up and subdued the suspect. >> he ran up and without anything happening, guns, whatever, he just wanted to get to our trooper. this is a hero right here. >> daigle faces first-degree murder charge. his roommate was found dead on monday and police say he is a suspect in that case also.

more fallout. canadian police say the postings of users' information has led to contortion crimes in two unreported cases of suicide. last week, hackers released the profile information of more than 30 million users and included hundreds of u.s. federal workers. the website's mission is to set up extramarital affairs. a fraternity at one new jersey college is suspended over sexually suggested banners and many new members lived, one read freshman daughter drop-off with an arrow pointing toward the house's door. the national sigma new is investigating. straight ahead, a dog attack caught on camera but it is not what you think. a man uses his pet as a weapon in an attack on a police officer.

weapon against the officer. backup later arrived and helped to arrest the man and the dog was taken to an animal shelter. california lawmakers are taking steps to rein in the use of drones. they advanced two bills off contraband in a state prison. they were arrested saturday. police say they plan toedned to fly drugs and tobacco into the facility. an inmate is suspected of collaborating with the men. an canine helped led rescuers to the boy's location.

chris miller of our salt lake city affiliate reports. >> reporter: family rushes to meet 10-year-old malachi bradley. he is carried off a search helicopter by a rescuer who picked him up after he wandered away from family on sunday morning. rescuers say it was this small dog that ultimately found his scent and let rescuers to his side. after spending 28 hours lost in the cold, wet mountains, malachi had this to say. >> it was really fun. literally 30 miles. >> reporter: he was fishing with his family and having already caught a fish, he was doing some exploring. >> just trying to collect mushrooms and i couldn't find any by the lake. it was stupid. >> reporter: he knits he'll be a little more cautious next time he's in the back country. >> i don't think i've ever felt something so intense in my whole life. >> reporter: family never gave up hope that he would be found

calla has the story. >> reporter: he dreamed of having his name in the guinness's book of world records. he could solve a rubik's cube in minutes and riding a ini cycle. >> i noticed in a record book one of the world records. >> reporter: the 14-year-old got to work right away, going through six months of mental and physical training. >> quite the multitask. it takes a while of riding, a little bit falling off and doing that for a long time before you can find your balance and be able to keep going. >> reporter: august 15th was truly a day for the history books. the community gathered to support stewart challenging the record. the rules stated he had to ride his uni cycle while solving as many rubik's cube and if he fell off he had to start over again. stewart kept his cool playing cube after cube. >> the crowd there was really
