if you're heading out this evening, at 9:00, 77, will feel more like 79. so a stunning start to your weekend, we will talk about some changes to the second half to my full forecast, andrea and diane, back to you. >> vanessa, thank you. a developing story, we are following in mount vernon, an undercover police operation ends with an innocent bystander shot and a suspect still on the run. this morning, a suburban neighborhood in westchester county is a crime scene. ilana gold is live from mount ilana? overnight in the neighborhood that suspect. this morning they still had this area blocked off. while they investigate. the shooting happened when an undercover officer was trying to buy an illegal gun from a suspect and now an innocent bystander is seriously hurt. investigators have worked through the night, near the intersection of at the tecumseh avenue in mount vernon to figure out how the

undercover police operation went terribly wrong. >> i heard the sound. i thought it was fireworks. >> they were gunshots that went through the win dose of the black car and left shell casings across the neighborhood. >> so scary. >> reporter: investigators say the problem stems from an undercover buy of illegal guns. they tell us the suspect contacted an undercover officer with the nypd on friday. he apparently said he had guns for sale and they met up in the bronx. the suspect got into the officer's car and told him to drive to mount vernon. when they arrived in the westchester county neighborhood, a second suspect got into the vehicle. >> there was some discussion. and a gun is put to our undercover's head. >> police say the men tried robbing the officer. that's when the officer signaled to his backup team to open fire on the suspect but some of the bullets hit an innocent man. >> a bystander, a 63-year-old man, who was standing behind the suspect, was also struck by at least two rounds. >> that bystander now in

serious condition at jacobi the second suspect who held the shot. he is in stable condition. investigators say that suspect's weapon was actually fake and released a picture of it. a replica of a handgun. and police are still looking for the man who the officer initially came in contact with. and police tell us they could be out here for the next few hours. they say the undercover officer was not badly hurt, but he did the gunshots. and he was treated at the hospital. we're live in mount vernon, news. >> thank you. we are following some breaking news out of texas this morning. a suspect accused of killing a sheriff's deputy execution- in custody. investigators say darren goforth was pumping gas into his patrol car last night, when the suspect walked up to him and shot him in the back of the head. prosecutors say they see no other motive expect the suspect

wanted to kill a law enforcement officer. >> it is horrifying. it is an act of cowardice and brutality, the likes of which i have never seen before. >> this is surveillance video of the suspect, in the pick-up truck he was driving. goforth was a 10-year veteran with the sheriff's office. the suspect's name has not been released. we have new information this morning about a pilot killed while practicing for the new york air show in orange county. the experimental home built plane crashed after takeoff around 2:00 p.m. yesterday at stewart international airport. the new york air show said in a statement, the pilot's name is andrew wright. police say the aircraft appeared to have experienced a structural failure. the air show is expected to go on as scheduled today. and new this morning, police are looking for the young man who pulled off two robberies in one day in queens. last saturday, these men allegedly took a woman's purse at 5:30 in the morning and took a bag from a young couple, just before midnight. and the robberies were just blocks from each other in ridgewood.

police say the suspects robbed them at gunpoint or the victims i shoe say at gunpoint but no one was hurt. a tsa agent at laguardia of sexual assault. last night, he faced a judge for the first time. from queens. >> reporter: matthew akendall was such a trusted member of the transportation security administration at laguardia airport, he was made as supervisor three years ago. his 13 years as a tsa agent just ended now that he is charged with taking a college exchange student into an airport bathroom, and molesting her. >> it makes you really terrified. >> i'm shocked that, for one, that he would be able to pull that off. >> it was 8:00 p.m. tuesday, the victim, a 22-year- old korean national. was in terminal b. having just arrived at laguardia. on a flight from salt lake city. investigators say the victim told them from the very start she knew her interactions with the agent seemed sketchy but he wore a uniform and seemed official. he allegedly stated to her,

hey, ma'am, i need to scan your body and your luggage. prosecutors say at first, she objected, saying you can't scan me but you can have a woman scan me because i am a girl. prosecutors say he then ordered her into the bathroom and lift up her shirt and unzip her pans and allegedly touched her under and over her clothing. tsa has terminated this individual. tsa holds its employees to the highest standards. owe kendall was arraigned on charges of forcible touching, official misconduct and unlawful imprisonment. and if convicted he faces up to a year in jail. >> he was held on $3,000 bail. the next court date back here september 2. dave carlin, outside kew gardens, cbs 2 news. we are learning more about the killing of a tv news crew in virginia. vicky gardner says she never saw the gunman walk up because the camera lights were too

bright. the murder of alison parker and adam ward were on tv. >> the camera did not shut off. i could see the video that was transmitting through adam's camera. >> michael epiccopo watched the live video and knew he was dead when the camera was not moving. >> i had to look over at it over and over again, because it was a job to give a copy to police and to us and to our legal team. and i watched my friend eight, nine times in a row. >> he was able to freeze a picture of the gunman. vester flanagan, who was fired from the station for poor performance two years ago killed himself. >> tropical storm erika turns on a course of the united states. the prime minister of dominica says 20 people are now dead. the storm hit the caribbean island causing massive flooding

and mutt slides that wiped out homes and roads. it currently is producing heavy rainfall over haiti. the prime minister says the damage done will set the island back 20 years. 10 years ago today, hurricane katrina was bearing down on new orleans. displacing almost half a million people. thousands of them came here to new york, and some never left. from the big easy to the big apple, cbs 2 tony aiello reports on katrina, 10 years later. >> my mother called me at 6:00 a.m. that sunday and said pack your car, i'm coming to get you. we're leaving. and i left with four people and a dog in my car. and it began a whirl wind adventure. >> an adventure not without adversity. >> yvonne martin doesn't sugar coat what happened to her life. >> i lost my home. my family was disbursed throughout the country. i can only say that it was the twist of fate that led us here. >> my two sons and i, we

well, crews responded to a 16-inch water main break in hoboken last night. the video posted on social media shows muddy waters on 14th street between bloomfield and garden street. united warter sayses customers may have discolored water or low pressure and the water is safe and let the water run until it is clear. eating solo has become more popular in recent years and become a little bit easier from the help of hand-held devices but by dining alone you could angry. cbs 2 alex dennis explains. >> reporter: enjoy eating solo? quite a bit. >> nearly half of adults ages 18 to 79 agree that eating meals alone is a treat. that is according to the heartman group, a research firm that studies consumer trends. out of the more than 1500

the sky looking awfully pink this morning. it is going to be a sunny day. and a warmer day than yesterday. just a few clouds out there right now. 68 degrees, we have west/northwest winds at 6 miles per hour. your headlines, another winner for late august. this weekend is looking phenomenal. we do have a slight chance for some showers. and now the humidity will be building over the next few day, and a possible heat wave next week. as we start september. and for this weekend, the sunshine today, a very slim chance of showers. tomorrow. as i mentioned rising humidity. today, it is comfortable. and still tomorrow, we are just below the feeling it range. vanessa getting into monday, we will start to feel the humidity returning to the forecast. but it is not oppressive like we have in the past. it is looking to hold steady in the feeling it range right now. on the vortex satellite and radar picture, crystal clear skies this morning. temperatures north and west of the city, plummeted as a result. high pressure is in play. and really, it is the dominant

feature in the forecast. for nearly the next five days. with the exception of a little bit of change tomorrow. so high pressure right now, warm front, make can its way closer to us tomorrow, it will increase the clouds, bringing us a slight chance of showers, but otherwise the weekend on the whole is looking really good. now an update on erika. just to the west of haiti right here. the current stats, central pressure up to 1008 mill bars, the storm has weakened. winds right now sustained at 40 miles an hour. and still a tropical storm. it is moving west/northwest at 20 miles per hour. but what happens as the storm direction, slight weakening anticipated as it makes its way into the gulf. but after that, it will likely regain strength to a tropical storm. before it makes land fall, along the eastern half of the gulf coast. so florida, certainly the main threat here of the storm. but it looks like the rain will be the biggest concern for the continental u.s. as erika makes its way on to land. our beech forecast this weekend, at home, looking good.

with the caution there is a moderate risk of rip kurns. but for today, a nice one. mostly sunny skies. temperatures in the upper 70s. and low 80s. along the shore. 5-10. for tomorrow, warmer, and 83 to 87, at the beach. and ocean temperature, now 72 to 78 degrees. and i'm a firm believer september brings some of the best beach weather with water temperatures being the warmest. and now your mountain forecast looks like this. low humidity. sun and clouds. upper 70s to low 80s tomorrow. a stray storm is possible. and it will be a little more steamy and warmer. for today, partly sunny skies, a high of 87 degrees. winds start out, out of the northwest and become southwesterly, late in the day, so that will help those temperatures climb. and then overnight, partly cloudy and 70. for the second half of your weekend, it looks like this. as we roll through the morning, it looks pleasant. more clouds by afternoon. a slight chance for a shower. maybe a stray storm. a high of 89. and monday, tuesday, and wednesday. high pressure is back in place.

shot him in the back of the head. and prosecutors say they see no other motive expect the suspect wanted to kill a law enforcement officer. goforth was a 10-year veteran with the sheriff's office. the suspect's name has not been released. another developing story. transportation ministers of nine european countries are expected to meet in paris to discuss beefing up security on trains. this comes after american passengers foiled a terrorist attack on high speed train traveling to paris, a little over a week ago. insiders say the group will discuss adding airport-style metal detectors on some international trains. and more armed security personnel. and a greater information exchange so destination countries know when a suspect is heading their way. new this morning, police have released video of a man wanted in connection with an assault on the number two train in the bronx two weeks ago. this is the man police are looking for. they say he followed a young woman off the train, at the 149th street stop in monthaven

beat her with his cane and stepped on her right hand. also, new this morning, police in brooklyn say two men punched l train. and took his cell phone. it happened on august 5. near the livonia avenue subway station in east new york. detectives say the men you see there in the black shirts then got off the train and ran off. columbia university wants a out. paul nungesser is suing the school for discrimination claiming the school did not protect him from being labeled a serial rapist. he says a one time friend called him a rapist and protested sexual abuse. and he says the university shamefully bows to social pressure and turned its back on him. but columbia university doesn't see it that way. and asked the federal judge yesterday to dismiss that lawsuit. we have exclusive video of the moments after the front of a restaurant collapsed in westchester county. cbs 2 was first on the scene. and an employee climbed through the debris, worried someone was trapped underneath.

from largemont. >> reporter: utility crews have cordenned off tequila sunrise. a popular mexican restaurant in largemont closed for business. >> it is pretty popular and people sit there and they eat. >> when the restaurant's parapit came crashing down bricks, wood and concrete rained on to the sidewalk and crushed the tabletop. cbs 2 lou young happened to be in the area and within seconds of the crash rushed over and recorded this cell phone video. a waiter combed through the debris. to see if anyone was trapped. luckily, no one was sitting outside. this photo shows the restaurant's para-pit before the crash. >> we started looking for people. just in case. and no one would have ever survived. >> ben aiello owns array bakery and rushed across the street to help. >> previous to it, there were four gentleman sitting outside.

barefoot launching kayaks and canoes. >> it belongs in the deep south. it is nonnative. how long it lived here, no one knows for sure but he is confident that someone had it for a pet and then abandoned it. >> stick to furry animals and abandoning it. >> abandoning a pet is illegal. and it seems to be happening a lot lately. it hard to forget this picture, an alligator roaming the streets of inwood inall. >> over the last four or five years, it is probably jumped up 60, 75% of what we have seen in the past. >> lieutenant tom dedonski with the new york state vent of environmental conservation says there are a few reasons why. >> more and more people think they are unique to have because no one else has them. >> and people are afraid of getting caught so they let them go, with the alligator snapping turtle. and thankfully he has a permanent home. the ecology site. >> on october 10, the suffolk day. if you have an illegal pet you

the next few days, it looks like this. yesterday much closer to seasonable. 82 and normal high is 81. and today will be at 87. and tomorrow 89. and continuing to climb not only in the temperature department but in the humidity department as well. that was a big 50. that really came out at you. we are celebrating, or maybe you're not celebrating, maybe it makes you sad, but we have had now had 50 days straight at 80 degrees or above. today will make 51. and of course, as we saw, that is some excitement in the studio. that number will continue to climb. as temperatures continue to warm. just yet. >> on the vortex satellite and radar picture, clear skies overhead. tomorrow, warm front gets closer to us. showers. possibly a storm. but overrule, the weekend is main -- but overall the weekend is mainly dry. hour by hour, a few more clouds hours.
