for, you know, ten years and it was going really well. >> now actor fred is working for producer rob. >> what is rob lowe the boss like? >> knows how to get a set quiet. it's half the battle, let's face it. what could get done on a noisy set? nobody. who got the set quiet? i'm really good. >> rob also a pretty good father. his son matthew, 21, oldest is headed off to law school and said he's going to keep his overhead down by having matthew do all the future contracts. and rob admitted when matt left for school, he couldn't stop crying. done a fantastic job. joan rivers certainly did a wonderful job at raising her daughter, melissa. one of the things that surprised me in getting to know joan and melissa was how involved joan was not missing a single event of melissa, even a soccer game as a kid. plus, we mentioned earlier this friday will mark the one year anniversary of joan's death and

moving on has not been easy for melissa, but as she tells ashlan, it is the only way her mother would have wanted it. >> the greatest way to honor my mother's legacy is to keep going. because she was not a quitter. nothing ever stopped her if she couldn't get through this door, she went through that window. talked about what would be the best way to honor her legacy and the best way is to be okay. >> at times, melissa was strong and reflective, but likes to laugh and shared with us her own roller coaster of emotion. >> kind of a disaster this week. right now, you know, the fact that i ran out of soap this morning on my sink made me unravel. >> she inspires so many people. is there one moment when someone explains to you how much your

mother changed your life? >> it's always happiest when they say, she made me laugh or made something okay or inspired me to keep going. you know, it's always the ones you don't expect. it's always the ones that come up to me and say, i lost my mother and father on the same day. and you say, how are you doing? and you go, tough. and they say, god, your mom made me laugh. and you say, well, then, go back and read her books as she makes you laugh through this. >> joan's love, a special keepsake to hold her mother close. >> is this your special? >> this is my mother's watch and i've been wearing it since she died. >> and as the anniversary of joan's passing approaches, we got the feeling joan would be very proud of how strong melissa is and overjoyed her grandson,

cooper, just started the ninth grade. >> what are you doing on the fourth? what are you going to be doing? >> everybody is expecting me to have a big grand plan for the fourth but just with my son. go to school, i go to work. we come home and have a glass of wine. soda. he won't have wine. even though that would be very french. go with it. >> yeah, no. probably be driving to lacrosse practice. the wine will have to wait. doesn't matter. life goes on. >> joan was very close with her grandson, cooper, and melissa told us she and cooper took their annual vacation to wyoming. first without joan and scattered some of her ashes there to be there every august as a family. well, tomorrow, we are talking to one of joan's dear friends, joy behar. >> i can't believe she's dead. >> how joan talked her into going back to "the view." >> she goes, joy, do it while they still want you. >> her only interview on returning to the show. >> i worked in a mental hospital which prepared me to work there. >> rosie gave it a second shot at "the view." it didn't work. doesn't it scare you?
