i'm diana. vanessa murdock is here with a look at your forecast another good start to your forecast. a stunning start. i think people are going to be very pleased with this holiday weekend forecast, we're talking about the unofficial end to summer here, it is looking good. let's go ahead, shall we take a look what's happening out there 68 in the city, 56 in the hamptons bell mar, starting your day at 56 degrees. satellite and radar picture rain well to the south over head skies are cloudy we're looking at a whole lot of sunshine as the day progresses and low humidity as well. 9 a.m., 71 degrees, sunny. noon, sunny and 76. 81 degrees, suy, still by 6:00 tonight, possibly a few clouds out there and 74. all the while, low humidity. as we go on through your holiday weekend 81 with sun tomorrow 86 with sun. a little bit more humid and

then by monday we're actually feeling the humidity it will be hot too a high of 89 for labor day, it is looking like a great weekend forecast you'll be tempted to hit the beach but please know there is a high risk of rip currents at the jersey shore, along the south shore of long island, a moderate risk of rip currents, we'll talk more specifics about this holiday weekend forecast, andrea and diane back to you. our top story, an investigation is now underway at brian park after a tree branch snapped and came crashing down on visitors. several people were rushed to the hospital cbs 2 cbs 2 is there at the scene. this is still under investigation, it is labor day weekend a lot of visitors will be here at bryant park, some are nervous because a number of people got pinned under the tree when it fell in this area

and one of them has a broken arm. these pictures show the chaos at 40th street and sixth avenue in bant park after a tree snapped a y configuration struck park visitors around 5:00, some got pinned underneath. it was so much you didn't know when things could happen. it was just a really serious situation. three women and two men were rushed to hospitals some had back and neck injuries. as i heard the crash i turned and the tree literally went to the side. >> lindsey told victims to stay calm and still as they waited for paramedics. the girl was on the floor, fielded to be there and help her and comfort her. >> emergency responders say the woman was the most seriously injured with a broken arm. she did whatever she could to comfort her. she is still in shock.

they cleared the debris and removed the drunk now it is a happened. we spoke with a tree expert who says it is possible decay developed deep in the drunk. >> that may have happened from storm damage or some kind of wound that allowed decay to get into the tree. sometimes those kinds of problems are visib on the surface of the tree, sometimes they are not. people tell us they are leery when it comes to walking unexpected incident. labor day weekend, you have to work early, you want to relax and come to the park, see my friends, an accident like this happens. so again the cause of this incident out here is still under investigation, the tree expert says the trees in bryant park are well expected.

we're live in bryant park, alana gould. and -- around 9:00 near east 71st street. all lanes were closed for about an hour, traffic is now back to normal, no one was hurt. a plumber in connecticut is seriously injured after a tree fell on him. the man was walking back to his truck on benjamin street yesterday when suddenly the treetopelled over and trapped him. firefighters had to cut away pieces of the tree so the victim could be taken to the hospital. several vehicles including the plumbing truck were damaged. new information on the police involved shooting in brooklyn. police arrested and charged 27- year-old geral harris with the attempted murder of a police officer. the pd says 70 shots were fired between police and harris yesterday morning. the gunfire erupted at 3 different locations in

bushwick, police say four officers were trying to cash harris after he shot another man in the arm. the gun battle ended when one shot harris in the leg. new this morning a man hunt underway after a sex attack in central park. investigators released these images of the suspect. they say he sexually abused a 22-year-old woman near road number 1 in west drive on thursday around 6:30 p.m. police say there were no reported injuries. 30 west point cadets have been hurt after an annual pillow fight at the u.s. military academy. it turned bloody when they hard objects. the event is reportedly organized by first year comradery. 24 cadets suffered concussions. no cadets have been punished. and take a look at these incredible images, witnesses say the driver who allegedly hit the man took off running,

cbs 2 has this exclusive story. stable condition at jacoby medical center. >> witnesses say the car hit the man as he was walking this crosswalk here in west chester, they say the car dragged him about a quarter of a mile down the block. it happened around 11:00 friday morning but instead of

. when a teenager collapsed on a brooklyn subway platform a police officer rushed in to help him the teens parents say their son is alive because of that officer. . >> they recently got a chance to thank him. valerie castro has the story. stay awake, don't fall asleep. this youtube video shows the life-saving efforts an officer used when a 19-year-old man collapsed on the sheep's head bay train platform in brooklyn. the officer performs cpr on rio, administering chest compressions and giving him mouth to mouth until he hears him gasp for air. >> relief. after i heard the girl, i thought, stay with me. >> it was heart wrenching when i finally did see it cried through the segment of it. she credits him for saving

his life. >> to me and my family. he is our guardian angel. the fallly was finally able to meet the officer in person wednesday at the same train station where the incident took place. >> i was speechless. there is not any words or word that i could say to tell how i feel how a mother feels knowing someone saved their child's life. >> i really don't want the attention, but i appreciate it. but i mean, i just did my job as a first responder. a small token of their appreciation, a police ield made out of legos from his 10- year-old brother. >> i'm really happy that he was there to save my brother's life. and this sketch made by diane ferrar who is an art teacher. >> this is something i created with my son in mind and him in mind for saving his life. the 19-year-old will spend one more week in the hospital, his faly said he is expected to make a complete recovery.

now. live from studio 46 this is cbs 2 news this morning. good morning 6:30 on this saturday, september 5th. >> i'm andrea grimes. today's top stories are straight ahead. first vanessa murdock is here with the forecast. as we goat into the afternoon it will get sunny again, it will be a beautiful way to start the weekend what i love most is that it is going to be a comfortable day with low humidity and also temperatures closer to seasonal so low 80s for highs today. we're starting off with 58 in franklin, and 67 and in the city, central park's reading, 68 degrees. on the vortex satellite and picture, getting way to more sunshine as the day progresses

we're leave in bryant park, elana gold, cbs 2 news. new information this morning on the police-involved shooting in buckwick brooklyn. the nypd arrested and charged 27-year-old gerald harris, 70shots were fired in a gun battle in police and harris yesterday morning. >> the gunfire erupted at 3 different locations in bushwick much caught on camera. police say four officers were trying to catch harris after he shot another man in the arm. the gun battle ended when one of the officers shot harris in the leg. new this morning police say they arrested a port washington woman for dwi under leanne drew's law. she was taken into custody, police say they found two children a 9-year-old female and 7-year-old male in her car. she is expected to be arraigned

on numerous charges, two counts of aggravated while intoxicated with a child pass passenger. and day care workers arrested after a toddler fight club. >> they face child endangerment charges after allegedly making 4 and 6-year-olds fight each other in frankfurt. police say they have cell phone video they took of them fighting both are due back in court this month. the staten island football team at the center of a hazing scandal will play next week. the city department of education lifted the suspension while continuing to investigate the allegations. during a summer football camp in up state new york players were allegedly hit with a broom, shot out with bb guns, and hadsymbols drawed on them. they say it wasn't fair to punish the whole team. the markets took a hit after a mixed jobs report stocks open lower and stayed

trading session. they closed 272 points the nasdaq lost almost 50. thatemployers added fewer jobs than forecasted. still at the lowest level since 2008. a commuter alert for the port authority bus terminal when everybody is back to work on tuesday, officials say they are reassigning some gates to cut down on delays and over crowding. most new jersey transit gates will be moved to the third floor while most coach usa gates will be moved to the fourth floor. the changes start on tuesday and will impact more than 30,000 weekday commuters. new signs will be posted around the terminal to help guide them to the new gates. the count down to colbert is on, we're days away from the premier of the late show.

a new pilot program in the city is looking for volunteers to allow the city to track your driving habits. a tiny lack box will -- how much gas you use. the program called drive smart aims to help streets, make streets safer. the device will transmit data from the car's computer to the driver's smartphone in a secure server. participants could have a 30% discount on all state insurance. the department of transportion hopes to get 400 volunteers. you may notice it is increasingly difficult to have a conversation when you go out to eat. many restaurants are dishing literally. many serve not only drinks and food these days, but also a lively and loud atmosphere. >> something that continues to encourage social interactions and i love that.

restaurant owner embraces a growing trend, the noisy dining room. he is not alone. >> the idea is to create a party atmosphere, in a lot of these places. a restaurant critic listened to this transition over his 15 year career over new york magazine. >> the tradition fancy restaurant was a hushed sort of darkened little parlor now it is the exact opposite. >> he says a decade ago the noisy kitchen culture started working its way into the dining room. a smartphone decibel meter able found decibels hovered from the mid-80s, the equivalent of city traffic into the 90s, like a jackhammer pounding away, not the best environment if you're looking to have a conversation over dinner. >> i abtely hate it because i can't stand not being able to hear. >> diners we spoke with have mixed reactions to this noise revolution.

say about this day so far. i think generally people will be pleased, there is low humidity, it is cfortable out there, 66 degrees right now, says less inlittleneck, skies have clouds this morning but we expect them to clear out this afternoon so that's nice. a little bitcooler in the north, 58 degrees, up there saying sunny skies and looking good. let's take you live outside for your take on what's happening we've got some thick clouds out there looking kind of gray to start your day but by this afternoon we're looking at sunshine and temperatures warming into the low 80s. 68 right now, east winds at 5 miles per hour. so yes, the skies will be clearing out it will be warm and dry ahead not just today, not just tomorrow, but for labor day as well. in fact there is no rain in site. the next best chance for rain arrives thursday into friday and that's actually not good news.
