rebound from an opening loss in the subway series. >> here's steve overmyer with your cbs 2 news wfan sports update. joe girardi was matter of fact with the situation with the yankees, he said simply we need to win games, and fact is they are dangerously close to falling out of touch with the blue jays for the division lead and a bad weekend could have buried them. the mets are figuring out how to stack the rotation come playoff time. here's noah syndergaard, a far more accomplished pitcher at home than on the road. at home, 7-1 with a 2.5 e. r. a. carlos beltran smokes a pop to lead the game. the yankees lead the majors in first inning runs with 116. i really wonder if a concern with the young arms for the mets is actually fatigue. noah was dipping into the high 90s in the 6th inning when brian mccann took out his 26th 26th of the season.

5-0 yankees. mets have golden opportunities. cespedes goes down with two on. david wright, juan with bases loaded. toronto lost. as for the mets, the magic number to clinch still remains at eight. overmyer. switching to football. jets coach todd bowl says preparing for colts qb andrew luck is a nightmare. the giants are hoping to put week one and the game against dallas behind us in the rear -- morning. london fletcher is with us. >> thank you for having me. >> let's talk about the giants, they want to forget last weekend, epic collapse in dallas against the cowboys, what were your thoughts
7:46 am
>> i just couldn't believe it. the reason being i faced the giants 7 years during my time in washington. tom coughlin, ton of respect for him. eli manning, they have won super bowls, for them to have that collapse was surprising and shocking. tom coughlin, his teams are well coached. you don't win two super bowls not being a well coached team, and i can see him thinking okay, maybe we can get this touchdown pass, but eli should have taken a sack, cover all different scenarios, if the tight end is not completely open, take the sack, but very surprising that they let that game get away at the end. >> bad decision that led the cowboys to win. how do you bounce back after a horrible loss like that for this week they take on the falcon? >> the way the nfl works is you get another week, and you know, you have a 24 hour rule, whether you win or lose, so you
7:47 am
have to move on and get ready for the next ball game. it's going to be a tough game against the atlanta falcons, you know, that offense they have, julio jones, matt ryan was outstanding on monday night, and you look at the falcons defense, which is very surprising, played really well. held chip kelly and the eagle's offense in check. with the giants, you have to move on and get ready for the next game. >> and hopefully eli can do that. he took the fall. let's talk a little bit about just quickly, jason pierre paul, because in week he put a video on instagram, working out. had the handle injury from the 4 4th of july fireworks. when do you think he comes back, and when do you think he comes back? >> when you officially heard the situation, you were thinking, okay, maybe it's just the one finger, and he probably can do some things with the other fingers. then once you saw the video, there was a picture showing a partial part of his thumb and middle finger. it's worse than i'm sure the
7:48 am
giants had anticipated. i'm not sure how effective he can be. when you talk about three of his fingers, you know, being no longer there or partially missing. it's yet to be seen once he gets back, whether he'll be able to be the jpp that the giant's fans were used to seeing. >> he says he'll be back. we'll have to see. >> let's talk about the jets, they play tomorrow night in indianapolis. todd bowels -- bowls was saying, preparing was a nightmare. how do they prepare and what do you think is the biggest weakness. >> when i looked at the jets, i was impressed with fitzpatrick. he played well. >> they won last week. >> had a great chemistry with him and brandon marshal, and found aaron decker for a touchdown. it starts up front for the jets on the defensive line and also the offensive line. that offensive line really dominated the browns defense, and i'm sure that will be the game plan for the jets going
7:49 am
into the game against the colts. dominating up front on both sides of the ball. pressure andrew luck and that's where they can take advantage of the colts offense, along the offensive line, they can get pressure with the defensive front and they have the corners to be able to match up with the colts wide receivers. >> do you think that fitzpatrick is getting into a little bit of a groove. he wasn't supposed to be the starting qb. >> you have to think about this, fitzpatrick has a history with galey. he was his head coach in buffalo. he has history, and he had great success at buffalo under chang galey. and when you saw him play, and i watched him play, you saw his comfort in that offense, the way he worked the pockets, some of the throws that he made and some of the formations that they did from an offensive stand point, so you know, i think fitzpatrick is very comfortable with chang galey's offense. >> and what's coming up on the pregame show. >> we have a lot going on. we have a great time.
