the day's top stories are straight ahead. first vanessa murdock is live in brooklyn getting ready for the tunnel to towers 5k run and walk, standing in front of the american flags. good morning, vanessa. >> good morning, ladies. these american flags are 6,855 of them, each one representing a service member lost in afghanistan and iraq. these are some of the flags. there will be more carried by 2500 west point cadets as well to bring the total number together. these flags hold great significance today. this is a beautiful day to remember and celebrate the first responders. it will be a day where they raise money for important causes and we will learn about that moving forward. right now your forecast. it's beautiful out. >> it's chilly. nonetheless, a nice breeze, the sun is out. 57 in the city. 43 sparta. 53 greenwich as babylon. 61 belmar. as you look at the forecast for

this morning, come out and support the tunnel to towers 5k run and walk, in red hook brooklyn, 9:30, 64 with clouds and lots of sun. northeast winds 10 to 15 with occasional gusts up to 20. this afternoon a high of 73. a couple of degrees before normal. perfect fall-like weather. a mix of sun and clouds with breezy conditions. if you head to philadelphia later for mass, there may be a few passing showers but nothing significant. otherwise i think it will be a pleasant day for the pope's mass. good news around to end your weekend. coming up, the full forecast and we will talk to former fdny commissioner salvatore govanis. >> thank you. now to the papal visit.

three city tour of the u.s. >> cbs 2's don champion has more from philadelphia. >> reporter: another business sade for the pope. he will meet with bishops gathered from around the world then end his grand trip to america in grand fashion holding a huge outdoor mass. reporter: it was a star- studded affair in philadelphia saturday night. mark wahlberg hosted the event that included comedian jim gaffigan and the singing of aretha franklin the biggest star of all was pope francis. francis ditched most of his prepared remarks and spoke passionately about the need for families. >> let us look after families, let us protect the families because it's in the families

>> but the pope did acknowledge he doesn't have a family of his own to have to deal with and he shied away from some of the more sensitive topics. >> i won't speak about mother- in-laws. >> earlier in the day pope francis went to independence hall where the colonials declared independence from britain and said the freedom declared in 1776 still attracts people in america to this day. up to a million people could attend mass today and the pope will go to a correctional facility. in philadelphia, don champion, cbs 2 news. >> thank you. happening today, president obama will speak at the united nations summit. leaders are exploring ways to fix some of the world's problems like climate change

and extreme poverty. china's president pledged to help some of the poorest nations. the first full day of debate begins tomorrow. expect street closures and delays around the u.n. a new jersey community is in mourning after the loss of a high school football star who died suffering an injury on the field. evan murray took a hard hit during friday's game. the 17-year-old walked off the field and was conscious when put in an ambulance. people left flowers and letters at a growing memorial. a broadway actor says he is getting overwhelming support for taking a stand for a child that disrupted his show. the king and i actor wrote a post on facebook about the incident which involved a boy he said appeared to be autistic. in the post he described how the boy began yell'ing during a dramatic moment during wednesday's performance. he blasted audience members lack of compassion after some

people yelled for the boy and his mom to leave which they did a short time later. he spoke to cbs 2 exclusively about why he felt the need to speak out saying the theater is meant to be enjoyed by everyone. >> for me to quickly admonish somebody without knowing the facts of what is happening and turning an eye, which is less than loving first, that is what got me to write. >> he said broadway shows with special performances for autistic audiences should be commend. one is taking place today at 1:00 and that will be the lion king. a staten island woman has been slapped with a fine for a rant on yelp. the judge found she crossed the line with her post. >> reporter: emily is not a happy customer. in february, she hired mr. sandless to refinish her

she said instead of the shiny coating she was promised, she got dull discolored floors. after failing to resolve the issue, she filed a lawsuit and complained about him and his company on the internet. >> i went on yelp and i said beware, do not use matt garner, mr. sandless, that he is a scam, he is a liar. >> reporter: gardner responded with a lawsuit of his own. >> i believe anybody can say what they want about a company is true. where she went too far is when she attacked me personally. >> a judge said her repeated use of scam, liar, con artist on yelp and other review sites constituted defamation, not protected speech. the judge ordered her to pay gardner $1,000 in damages. >> i am not giving him his thousand dollars. i don't care what he does. the judge can give it to him. yelp could have flagged it. why should i be in trouble.

if i am in trouble, then legally i feel i should have a lawsuit against yelp and the companies that allow reviews. >> reporter: in a statement, a spokesperson for yelp says we frequently find a better source review. since that didn't happen, she decision. >> some people we spoke to said the decision in this case will make them think twice before posting a review online. the mets are waking up division champs this morning. the amaze zin mets clinched the championship last night. they are gearing up for the postseason. fans are gearing up with lots of championship gear. cbs 2's ilana gold joins us live from citi field. good morning, ilana. >> the good morning, andrea. a lot of fans are going to be at citi field because the store here opened moments ago. that means they can finally buy their championship gear. as you can imagine, they are

thrilled for the mets to make the play-offs. this hasn't happened in nine years. >> mets fans showing up at models in time's square to be gear. >> when i came down here to get can't believe it. these new t-shirts and hats have logos fans have been waiting a long time to see. >> they are stocking up to celebrate the mets becoming the new national league east championship. >> i was hoping for them to win with my mets hat and everything as luck. now i am happy. we both came running over here. >> reporter: the team clinched the division last night beating road. the mets haven't made it to the play-offs since 2006 but their work is far from over. they have a week and a half left in the season and trying to win home field advantage. >> i'm very excited about the mets going all the way this year.

resigning from the house. the kentucky county clerk that went to jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses for same-sex couples is leaving the democratic party and becoming a republican. she feels abandoned by the party. davis says she hasn't received much support from democratic leaders during this time. >> a whirlwind in the midst of a firestorm. we had deaths threats at hour home,ing calls to my house saying they would burn us up while we sleep. >> she plans to stay clerk until her term is up in 2018. time to see what is coming up on "face the nation." >> john dickerson joins us were

we are warming up to 78 in central park. 58 in the hamptons. 40s in sparta. greenwich connecticut, goes 54 degrees. this morning's forecast for the official race start at 9:30, 64 with a mix of sunshine and clouds and a nice breeze out of the northeast. a day similar to yesterday. 73 this afternoon in the city. a real beauty. if you head to philadelphia this afternoon for mass this evening, we may see a few more showers but, nonetheless, i think they will be passing by quickly. no need to worry with regard to the weather in philly. another thing to note for this evening and this morning, because of the super moon, we have a coastal flood advisory around the time of high tide, minor flooding is possible general hours between 7:00 and 9:00 when you can anticipate evening. so, we are hear this morning for the tunnel to towers 5k

festivities leading up to the west indian day parade. governor cuomo gave his eulogy praising gabay as somebody raised in public housing but followed a path of success that took him to harvard. >> there were many paths a young man could follow and most were the wrong path. but carey's life took a different story. letter a young man with drive and values could still make it, make the american dream a reality. >> he died of his injuries september 15th more than a week after getting shot. police released this sketch of one of the persons of interest they are looking for. there have been no arrests in the case. it's a brave new world when it comes to school security. every changing technology makes it hard for schools to keep up. districts on long island are getting help from the government to go high-tech. cbs 2's carolyn gusoff reports. >> reporter: the cop stationed at the door of this school is

scanners check visitors driver's license against sexual predator registry, cameras and mounted panic buttons connect to a monitoring station. schools in nassau county will hook up to a new generation of security. >> this is one more step that school districts throughout the county are taking to make it safer for our children. >> reporter: they have an app that links school staff with 911 via smartphones, feeding first responders floor plans and camera views. teachers can tap in the nature of the emergency and loop in administrators. >> calling central office may not be the first thing on their mind. getting this automatic us. >> reporter: nassau county officials hope to roll out the app by year's end. that comes two years after they first announced they would outfit schools with five wireless panic buttons. in the wake of school shooting tragedies. >> getting realtime information

she is live for the annual tunnel to tower run and walk. how is it going? >> she has walkers and runners behind her now. >> that's right. this is a beautiful start to the race. we have some veterans here making their start to the race. so, people are cheering them on. they are about to round the horn and go down into the tunnel. but certainly a huge crowd with a huge applause this morning. we are expecting 20 to 30,000 people. the big race starts at 9:30. these are the vips at this event. people being honored are veterans. they look happy to be here. that is great news. let's get you to the forecast now so you know what to expect today. it's going to be a lovely end to tur weekend and certainly a little drier than we anticipated yesterday. that is great news. live outside, 58, partly cloudy in central park. it will be a day where we see a mixture of sunshine and clouds. letter you can see clearly, if you can hear me on the satellite and radar picture. low pressure to the south, high

pressure to the north and we are stuck in the middle. as a result, we will see that mixture of sunshine and clouds for the pope's mass this afternoon in philadelphia. maybe a few passing showers. otherwise it's beautiful. winds will be breezy at times but i love it. i love the cool crisp breeze out of the northeast. by this afternoon, 73 degrees with a mixture of sunshine and clouds. as we make our way into the evening, i want to know, you want to know, i hope, what the forecast will be for the super moon eclipse. this will not happen again until 2033 folks. unfortunately for viewing, it's not the best but not the worst. mostly cloudy skies. i do believe you will catch a glimpse here and there of the eclipse as it's happening but it won't be crystal clear. you won't be able to see it from beginning to end. overnight tonight we bottom out at 65. mostly cloudy and comfortable. tomorrow we start a warming trend, 78 for the workweek to start off.
