8:00. good morning, it is 8:00 a.m. on this sunday, october 4. i am diane macedo i am andrea grymes. high wind and heavy rain pounded our area and we are not out of the woods just yet. take a look at this video from wildwood, new jersey. at home lifted off its foundation and thrown into the bay. we will talk to the man who used to live in the home. still concerns along the coast and meteorologist, vanessa murdock, is tracking it all. we have coastal flooding

surf and high wind gusting to 50 mph. for those of you along the shore, you are not out of the woods just yet. play it safe and be cautious. these will begin to settle down tomorrow. we have coastal flooding alerts in effect through this evening. for those of you along the jersey shore, you have a coastal warning and in long island it is and advisory. wind cranking up to 50 mph along the coast. there is a wind warning effect until 10:00 a.m. it will be wendy all day long along the shores. while there will be improvements inland, things will be caught -- will be dicey along the coast. high tide is at one deck 16. at sandy -- 1:16. sandy bay close to 4:00 this afternoon. then overnight, the high tide street -- is the less flooding than this afternoon.

looking at the radar picture, there is green over the top of us. most of us will stay dry. we will warm to the low 60s sunshine this afternoon. for all of us, the wind will make an impact on the day. i will have calming winds and warm temperatures and a return to some he store -- sunny skies coming up. breaking news in queens where police are searching for the driver that struck and killed a pedestrian and flashing. 41 -- the 41-year-old of control -- of corona was crossing the road after 1:00 this morning when he was hit dark-colored suv. breaking news on staten island after two men were shot. the men were involved in some

woman missing after a deadly last in brooklyn. another woman was killed and several were injured after the explosion blew off the entire front of the building and center prefiling -- flying. alana gold is live.>> reporter: in the last few minutes we have seen more fire crews showing up at the explosion site. now that it is daylight, they will search for the woman who is still unaccounted for. we have seen this -- the fire chief and building expect her's meeting -- inspectors meeting because the building is too don't know the exact cause of the explosion. the explosion at this three- story building at 13th ave. and 42nd st. through the front of the structure right off. bricks, concrete and metal building was engulfed in flames. >> reporter: you can see the flames set off by the blast. was left. people started running for

at 1:00 this -- 1:00 yesterday afternoon. police -- firefighters were on scene in minutes and they found a woman dead in the stairwell. two men and a child were hit on the sidewalk in this devoutly religious neighborhood. >> there were two men coming home from synagogue and a 10- year-old kid.>> reporter: the building had a business on the first floor and apartments above it. now the structure is unrecognizable. it is believed the problem started on the second lower when a kitchen stove was being disconnected. >> we are told the tenants purchased a high and styles that was their own stove. they were moving out of the apartment and they were going to take the stove with them. so, of course to take a stove with you, that entails disconnecting the gas line. >> reporter: despite the indications that this was a gas explosion, there was no report

incident.>> if you smelled gas, we emphasize that you should call 911. we know that to be people in the past have not done that. >> reporter: again, it is unclear exactly what led to this. we tell you that later today that eric adams is proposing new gas safety measures after this deadly explosion. we will let you know what he has to say. i am alana gold, cbs to news -- cbs-2 news. gas explosions killed two people in east village and in march 2014, a gas leak killed two people in east harlem and nine people died in that blast. 12 people are hurt after a and mta bus crashed in flushing queens. the bus was traveling on guy brewer boulevard around nine

a car moving -- 9:45 last night when it hit a car moving in the opposite direction. the bus hit other cars and then into a house. two people were killed in a boating accident in jamaica bay. both men of brooklyn died when their fishing boat capsized friday night. five people were on board when rough water and high wind tip the boat. two people were able to swim back to shore and call for help. of -- a fifth man was treated for minor injuries. police charged 47-year-old josiah richards of brooklyn with endangering a child yesterday. richard -- richards is seen on surveillance video punching the boy in the face and a deli back in august. he was angry with the boy because of how he asked the clerk for a plastic bag. a medical examiner said the

oregon took his own life. there was a shootout with police after the gunmen killed nine people and injured nine more. cheyenne fitzgerald lost a kidney.>> it hit her back and clipped her long and lodged in her kidney -- lung and lodged in her kidney.>> she is jumpy, as you can imagine, and she is starting to remember what happened. >> the gunmen left a manifesto that said he was a loser without a girlfriend and medicated black men and he was going out in a blaze of glory. video shows charred buildings with rooms still smoldering -- smoldering at a hospital for drs. without borders. at least 19 people were killed, including three children as the

and onto ocean avenue which also had standing water left over from high tide on either side. it appears that the worst damage was in wildwood where home ended up in the water swept away by the tide. stuart tate had owned the property since 1992 and luckily was not inside when the home collapsed.>> it is some of the highest water i have seen. i have a picture on my cell phone from 6:00 last night and the water was higher than sandy. i have never seen the water that high. i looked at the 16 inch creosote timbres that were 60 feet long there were broken like toothpicks.>> reporter: boats floating in the harbor, one broke free. this video was sent to us by a cbs-2 colleague. also with the lighthouse on long beach island, there were rising waters and they quickly

it is 53 with northeast wind at 23 mph. it will be a breezy day inland and windy at the coast. things are looking better inland and it is rough at the shore. quieter week ahead and tuesday, wednesday and thursday and even tomorrow looking lovely. yesterday it was wrought at 55 and the temperatures bump up. we anticipate low 60s. many of us close to the coast will be in the 50s today. tuesday we will be close to 70 and 68 is the normal high. improving warmth and an improving forecast. now an update on hurricane joaquin which is category 3 with 115 mile sustained winds. it is moving northeast at 21 mph. it is 210 miles southwest of bermuda and they are already feeling the force of the storm.

can see the outer band already crossing the island. they have a long stretch to go before they are done with the storm and the life-threatening surge. on the vortex satellite for us here at home in comparison, things are much improved. there is no green on the screen which means no wet weather. i think we will mainly stay dry, even though we could have a spotty shower. there is moisture from the tropics and that's why we have had the rain of late. now the high pressure will start to take hold and we will still have the strong northeast wind. south carolina is getting flooded and they had 16 inches of rain as of 2:00 this morning. we expect those numbers to claim -- a climb.

as we look at the j drs walk -- jdrf walk to cure diabetes. 61 is the high in the city. it will be mainly cloudy and we will anticipate some sunshine north of the city. overnight tonight in the 50s and then tomorrow 60s with partly sunny skies. some minor coastal flooding, but i think tomorrow that will disappear. rough surf because of joaquin in the open water. during the week, we have a spectacular forecast with 70 on tuesday and 73 on wednesday and 69 on thursday. the weekend is shaping up nicely as well. some clouds, but generally for the weekend, a drive forecast.>> but for the people -- a drive forecast. >> for -- but, for the people

>> it will be lovely. three bears got more than they bargained for when they came searching for food at a california home. you can see to bears wandering into the front yard and a larger bear is off-camera. rather than food, the bears found a 20 pound bulldog that made it clear they were not welcome on the property. one bear even scaled a fence to get away from the dog. the bears were estimated to weigh 100 pounds each. >> she was not having it. you are not coming onto the property. it blew me away. i cannot believe that she turned into a wolverine.>> reporter: as a rework, she got a bath and a treat and a writ -- and a report from her owners. another no-hitter as citi field and the yankees lose the chance to clinch home-field

we have steve overmyer with an update . the last thing the mets wanted to see was the washington nationals storming the field and celebration. fortunately, it was not a division title, but it was one of the greatest pitching performances in major-league history. the mets were trying to negotiate the whole matt harvey situation. the plan was to start once in the ndls. he struck out 11 batters. but, this was the max scherzer show the struct out 17 men. he struck out 17 mets. 27 up and 27 down. the first pitcher in baseball to have two no-hitters in the same season of baseball. the last time that happened was nolan ryland -- nolan ryan and 73. they will start the ndls friday
