9:14 am
and let's go ahead and take you live outside and show you what's happening. this spectacular picture of central park, some colors really starting to pop there. we have partly sunny skies and 44 and winds north, northeast at 7 miles per hour. your headline, the clouds will be thickening today. so what we have out there right now is really nothing compared to what we anticipate later on. and mainly cloudy later and a slight chance of a shower. and best bet will be close to the coast. and then a damp start to your sunday. a cold front will make its way through early tomorrow. and by afternoon, the skies clearing and temperatures will be warmer to end your weekend in the mid-60s. for today, below seasonable by a few degrees. 58 the anticipated high. and sunrise this morning was at 7:17. your sunset is at 6:03. not a lot of daylight in this forecast. all right, on the vortex satellite and radar picture, we
9:15 am
note two interesting things. we have clouds approaching from the west and also clouds if the the predominant wind direction today will be out of the east. the wins will pick up moisture off the water, the the clouds thicken close to the coast and because of those easterly winds we have the slight chance of a shower close to the shore. but tomorrow we're saying, hey, just about all of us will get shower activity tomorrow. and the reason why, this cold front which is to the west will be making its approach but note where the showers are. they're still well in front of it. tomorrow morning early, we anticipate showers. by afternoon, skies clearing. and now an update on patricia. at present, a tropical storm. winds sustained at 50 miles per hour. once the storms move over the rugged terrain, that's why they decrease so quickly but they pack a big punch with regards to rainfall. and flooding will be a huge issue. and watch what's happening over texas. they are getting slammed.
9:16 am
carolina, a band of persistently moderate to heavy rainfall is now falling over texas. they'll be dealing with flooding issues there as well. and don't anticipate the terrible conditions that erupted in south carolina. but certainly flooding will be a big issue in texas over the next couple days. for us, no flooding concerns. we're just going to be dealing with thickening clouds and cooler temperatures today. so hour-by-hour, here's how the forecast shapes out. 10:00 a.m., clouds moving in. i really enjoy watching these rolling in from both directions. and then note this afternoon, you start to see the shower development close to the coast. and 9:00 tonight, mainly cloudy skies. toward the morning hours, not only may we continue to see spotty showers close to the coast, that cold front will bring us the most likely chance of wet weather this weekend. by midday though, skies are beginning to clear. by even, especially at sunset, we will see plenty of clear skies by then. temperatures into monday will be cooler today. and we are doing a seesaw action with regard to temperature.
9:17 am
today, 58 degrees and thickening clouds and maybe that stray shower by the coast. and cooler than it's been. winds northeast. and becoming more southeasterly at 5 to 10 miles per hour. and cloudy skies overnight, maybe a late shower. and an overnight low of 52 degrees. and then tomorrow, we're looking at early showers giving way to afternoon sun and a high of 65. so really i think the afternoon tomorrow will quite lovely across the region as the cold front makes its exit. and your extended forecast, monday and tuesday, my picks of the week, both days at 60 degrees with sunshine. and what's going to happen late tuesday into wednesday however is that the remnants of patricia will actually have an impact on the forecast here in the form of rain. so wednesday and thursday we're looking at rain arriving. it could be steady and maybe even some heavy stuff. and then it clears out in time for friday, a high of 58 and partly cloudy. >> and for the rain tomorrow, just half the day. >> yeah, and it's not looking like a big deal but there will be showers that might impact your morning brunch plans or

have a great saturday. during treatment, thousands of women will deal with many things. she says she had a saving grace. thank you for being here. and you brought some examples but first, i want to ask you, tell us about your story and when were you diagnosed? >> i was diagnosed with cancer last year in september 2014. i had my mastectomymy in january 2015. and finished my chemo treatments in july of this year as well. so one day at a time. everything is going according to god's plan. so it's been great. >> and that's wonderful to hear that you are doing better. we saw in the taped piece. talk about losing your hair and what that was like for you.
9:49 am
i feel as women we're very much into our hair. so i feel my hair was very long. i mean, mid-length. so that was like my major concern with the hair loss. and prior to me losing my hair, i cut my hair so i wouldn't have the initial shock of, you know, of the hair falling. so i did the precut. and the pre-buzz cut. to prepare myself. >> and explain how you got hooked up with her here. >> i met flora through a friend. i was recommended by a friend to see her because in today's society, it's always about men's hair loss. you don't hear about women's hair loss or what they have to offer for them. so i heard about her. and her consultation was great. once i got there, it felt very welcomed. and she prepared me very well. asked me many questions, how
9:50 am
so when i got the wig, i felt like me. >> yeah, let me bring you in. i know you do work with men and women but you pay special attention to women. so tell us about your business and what you do. >> so my business is focused on helping men, women, children with hair loss. with an emphasis on women's hair loss especially. we discuss what their expectations are. and in her case, medical hair loss, she will lose all her hair. so i took special measurements to fit her for a medical grade wig with human hair. >> and you brought some examples here. few. examples. the first is a synthetic wig because defending on the cancer, the patient may be better off wearing a synthetic wig. and we have some nice technology now where they can look more like human.
9:51 am
and on the right over here, the brown color wig, that's human hair. it's similar to what made for renee. and then the one in the center is the cnc medical prosthetic in which we use 3d technology to replicate the scalp. so it looks like growing hair. so there's various technologies available and that's part of the consul take. we discuss the options. >> so renee, has your hair grown back yet? >> yeah, somewhat. the it's in the growing process. i have the little buzz cut. >> until then, what's your advice for women who maybe are going through what you went through? >> one day at a time. the hair will eventually come back. you know, if you get someone as great as flora who can provide services i got. the day i got it, i started you okay? and i felt like me. i felt like me.
9:52 am
the way i wore it. the color and the style. it made me feel really good. with time, you know, positive. positive energy. >> right. >> and definitely it will happen. >> and what's your advice to women like renee? >> for women who get diagnosed with cancer, the sooner that we can meet you, the better so that we can take a look at your actual hair style and take a sample. and we can move along as quickly as possible for the process because many women that i meet sometimes have young children and they don't want to concern the family with the diagnosis. so if we can help them look like themselves, it relieves their anxiety. >> thank you both so much for coming in. we appreciate it. and best of luck to you. >> thank you so much. thank you. >> and for more information, you can head to our website, cbsnewyork.com. this is cbs 2 news saturday
