after texas gets drenched over the weekend. and chris christie told to quiet down. the new jersey governor and presidential candidate leads a train car with noise-free travel. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters in new york. thanks for joining us. i'm anne-marie green. at least five people were killed when a whale watching boat sank of the coast of western canada and this morning, the search continues for one person still missing. the ship went down yesterday in clear and sunny weather about eight miles from vancouver island. 27 people were on board. don champ champion has our report. >> reporter: canadian coast guard crews searched through the night searching for people still missing after a whale watching boat sank off the coast of vancouver island. >> we have great resources out

>> reporter: the moment is shown where the ship slipped into the sea after making a may day call. witnesses say there were no time to put on life jackets before the boat cap-sized. 27 people were on board. >> the numbers unaccounted for are going down nicely and the number of survivors is going up nicely. >> reporter: smaller boats went throughout the sea to help ferry survivors to shore. while it's unsure what caused the accident, alec deck suspects the three-deck cruiser was side-swiped by a whale. >> this time of the year, we have big surges happening out in the water an i think this is what happened. >> reporter: the boat is one of the largest in the company's fleet. the company went through another deadly accident in 1998 when one of their vessels cap-sized during an excursion killing the boat's captain and a german tourist.

don champion, cbs news. millions across the southeast face dangerous flooding today. remnants of hurricane patricia will bring flash flooding to the gulf coast. students in university of parking lots. in houston, dozens of rescues were made on sunday. a san antonio man is safe this morning after being swept away while searching for his dog. he fell into a swollen drainage ditch and was missing for more than a day. >> rescue said the water was about 30 miles an hour, so when you think of that water, you're thinking of rushing water and then you think of all debris and things that are being washed down with it. >> the man washed up downstream and was able to flag down a passing driver. the dog is okay. hurricane patricia largely spared mexico. it is called one of the most

relatively little damage to mexico's pacific coast and no one was killed. mexico's government is being credited for evacuations and other preparations. the woman who authorities say drove a car into a crowd of people at an oklahoma state university homecoming parade is due in court today. 25-year-old adacas chambers is charged for driving under the influence and four counts of second-degree murder. witnesses say when the car plowed into the crowd on sat bodies flew in the area. four people were killed including a former professor and a 2-year-old. chambers' attorney says she was is not drinking. >> based on my experience of mental illnesses before, she has theics characterics of someone with a mental illness. >> a vigil was held last night

a new battleground tracking pole this morning finds donned trump and ben carson are neck and neck in iowa with 27% of the vote for carson and trump maintains a large lead in new hampshire. this is one of the several recent polls showing ben carson either tied or ahead of trump in iowa. >> reporter: trump says he is surprised and doesn'tnd the iowa polls and now the rhetoric is heating up. this weekend trump brought up carson's religion. he's a seventh day adventist. carson called on trump to apologize. >> i don't know about that. i don't know about what that is. i'm not that familiar with it. i've heard about it but i'm not that familiar with it. that wasn't meant to be an insult obviously. it's just that i don't know about it. >> reporter: and as far as trump's suggestion that carson has no energy? >> i'm not sure that there is anybody else running who has spent 18 or 20 hours intently

operating on somebody. >> reporter: on the democratic side, hillary clinton appeared at a fund-raiser in new york last night. earlier senator bernie sanders highlighted his difference with clinton and including his long time opposition to the keystone pipeline and the iraq war. >> we have differences of people and i think the american people, people participating in the democratic primary processes need to know the differences. >> reporter: clinton got a boost when joe biden decided not to run. he told norah o'donnell last night on "60 minutes" he didn't think he would win. >> reporter: you wouldn't consider running for president unless you thought or had some doubts about hillary clinton. >> not at all. that has nothing to do with it. i've said from the beginning! look. i like hillary. hillary and i get along together. only reason to run is still think i could do a better job than anybody else could do. that is the only reason to run.

captured by a helmet camera, prisoners are helped along by kurdish forces. in the background you can hear constant gunfire as kurds and special american forces battle isis fighters who ferocious initial resistance killed master sergeant wheeler. there is a glimpse of a huge isis flag. and jail cells built inside the house of a tribal leader. when the prisoners first came out, 69 of them in all. they were patted down by kurds, but you can hear there is american backup. >> hey, hold it right there. >> reporter: these are not the prisoners the raid was designed to rescue. the kurds had hoped to find 20 of their own fighters who were kaurped and captured and paraded by isis back in february. as soon as the raid was finished, a aircraft flew over the compound and destroyed it with a bomb.

"the price is right" spokes model did it. amber richards accidentally backed into a piece and she said later she felt she was going to die of embarrassment. it's not that bad. microsoft opens its first flagship store. jill wagner is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. minutes before midnight strikes deadline, united autoworkers and general motors reached a tentative agreement on a new four-year contract. the proposed deal is expected to cover long-term wage increases and job security. local uaw workers will vote on that agreement on wednesday. strong earnings from big-name tech companies rallied the market. the dow finished 434 points higher.

back into positive territory for the year. the nasdaq jumped 145 points. gas prices dropping ten cents the past two weeks. the average price of a gallon of regular is $2.24. analysts warn that the price drop could end if the cost of crude oil remains at current levels. toyota is the top automaker when it comes to global vehicle sales. it announced this morning it sold nearly 7.5 million vehicles the first three-quarters of the year. volkswagen is preparing millions ofs of vehicles involved in the emissions scandal. the gm muscle car is the first time the camaro has been produced in the u.s. since 1992. prices start at $25,700. chevy dealers expect to get the

talk show host jimmy fallon takes a bad fall and new jersey's governor, chris christie, is booted from an amtrak car. the "new york post" reports on new jersey government chris christie getting kicked out of christie was reportedly speaking loudly to his staff and talking on the phone. his spokeswoman later apologized. "usa today" reports on a weekend accident that landed jimmy fallon in the hospital. "the tonight show" host was honored by the harvard lampoon while in boston but fell while holding a bottle with his hand. the miami herald reports on florida's week-long bear hunt ending in two days. florida's first bear hunt in 21 years was a big success.

the weekend until officials shut the hunt down last night and didn't want to go over the planned limit of 320 bears. "variety" covers the death of actress maureen o'hara. the irish actress starred in the hollywood classic "miracle on 34th street." in her long career, she made more than 50 movies and she died of natural causes saturday at home in boise, idaho. maureen o'hara was 95 years old. the "los angeles times" reports on the farewell to the city's sixth street breath. hundreds of people gathered saturday to say good-bye to the bridge. it will be torn down next year over concerns about stability. the iconic bridge has been seen in this movies, including "grease." a new bridge will be built to take its place and that will open in 2019. in sports up next, a

this might be the swortsports highlight of the week. a deer charging across a youth soccer field and it kicks a goal before the goalpost before trotting off into the woods! in "sunday night football," carolina was aebleble to rally against philadelphia to stay unbeaten. in the third quarter cam newton threw a short pass to the right of mike tolbert. he broke three tackles to get into the end zone for the

touchdown. carolina's defense held on and they beat the eagles 27-16. a dramatic finish to the giants/cowboys game. the game tied at 20-20, cowboys dwayne harris raced a hundred yards for the score. the giants defeated the cowboys 27-20. the new england patriots are still unbeaten after tom brady completed two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter against the new york jets. rob gronkowski caught a 15-yard td throw with only 1:13 remain pregnant. pats move two games ahead of the jets in the afc east with the 30-23 victory. the basketball world is mourning the death of minnesota timer timberwolves coach flip kaurneds. kevin garnett who played for saunders as a teenager and at
