vanessa murdoch is live on staten island for the start of the new york city marathon and good morning, vanessa. >> reporter: good morning, ladies and everybody. this is one of my favorite events of the year and i love the energy and excitement. look at all of the runners here already. they showed up around 5:30 this morning and we're getting in there. the they're staying warm when they can and it's feeling good out here this morning. roughly 50 degrees at fort wadsworth and looking at a few sprinkles that fell earlier. still, could looking look a perfect weather for race day and looking good here all of the runners this morning. let's go to the graphics and tell you what the temperatures are. ics in central park; 45 hamburg; 58, quoag and we look at the vortex, i mentioned earlier we had some sprinkles here and showers in the forecast until noon and they will not be bringing heavy rain. more of the light variety. and something to keep in mind, the runners, though, i don't

think they'll have a big impact on this them. 57 degrees, cloudy skies and showers moving through. by noon, 61 and mainly cloudy out there. by 3 this afternoon, 66 degrees and with some breaks of sunshine. the forecast will be an improving one as the day progresses and as many of the marathoners approach the finish line and we'll have much more on today's run coming up in my full forecast. for now, andrea and diane, back to you. >> and thank you. we have new information this morning on a deadly halloween crash in the bronx. we now know the identities of the three people killed when an out-of-control car plowed into trick or treaters. >> and one victim is 10 years old. alaina gold joining us live from the scene in morris park. >> reporter: we're standing on morris park avenue where this deadly crash happened. take a look and this is a car that slammed into six people while they were trick-or- treating and that is above the ground and that is hanging up someone's driveway.

grandfather were two of the victims killed. police are here investigating and trying to get answers. the nypd new looking for answers on this frightening crash on morris park in bo go, art avenues. at 5:00 last night, this out-of- control car plowed into a group of trick or treaters and landed several feet off of the ground. >> and i saw the car come up in the air and fly into the yard. >> reporter: the man behind the wheel of the black dodge charger rammed the car in front of it and launched over the sidewalk through a fence and slammed into a wall. they struck two groups of people celebrating halloween. and several of them children. >> and we heard the boom, boom, boom. the cars hitting each other and flying. we were hearing screams. >> reporter: police say 65-year- old luis perez and his 10-year- old granddaughter died from the impact. his other three-year-old granddaughter got rushed to the hospital in stable condition. >> and all i can think this was -- think of was oh, my god, i hope he makes it. >> reporter: the neighbor saw everything and rushed over trying to save the family before paramedics arrived.

>> and you wish you could have done more. >> reporter: he came to the rescue of 24-year-old christian laka, also killed in the crash and police say the nine-year- old sister and 21-year-old friend were hit, too, and have minor injuries. >> and you can't imagine something like that is real and looks like something from a war movie. >> reporter: the deadly scene is somethings witnesses can't get past and that this could have happened to any of them walking on the sidewalk during halloween. >> and -- questioning it. >> reporter: right now, police need to question the 63-year- old driver and figure out what led to the tragedy back out here live where police have the area blocked off after the deadly crash. we have seen them here taking measurements and talking to neighbors and we can tell you the driver is recovering at the hospital and police say it's possible he had a seizure or some sort of medical condition. right now, this is under investigation. we're live in morris park, the bronx, alaina gold, cbs 2 news. >> and thank you.

we're following breaking news in somalia where rebels attacked a hotel. people were seen running for cover amid the sound of gun fire. nine people were killed, including the hotel owner, a photographer and former military general. and police sea a suicide bomber set off explosives while driving through the gates of the hotel. they said that gunmen ran guests. police say the militants appear to have hostages. the islamic extremist rebels al- shabib claimed responsibility. an investigation is underway into the crash of a russian passenger jet in egypt that killed all 224 people on board. the relatives of the victims created a memorial at the saint petersburg airport where that plane was heading and isis is claiming responsibility for the crash. both russia and egypt deny it. alan pizzi has more. >> reporter: the airliner came

ruget sinai peninsula when the military had to use hopper -- want heres to reach it. the wreckage made it clear there could be no survivors. dozens of ambulances brought bodies and many reportedly burned to a morgue in cairo. the remains were flown home to santa petersburg. distraught friends and relatives showed photos and selfing-- selfies support by passengers. and among them, 10-month-old gramo va, the youngest passenger on the plane. an egyptian aviation official said the plane was cruising at 31,000 feet when that pilot radioed he was having technical difficulties andd to make an emergency landing at the nearest airport. and then contact was lost. and flight trackers indicate 23 minutes after takeoff, the a- 321 airbus was moving at a speed of 400 knots and it suddenly dropped to 28,000 feet and with dramatic suddenness, slowed to a speed of 93 knots, barely 100 miles per hour and

charged with attempted murder and police say the 18-year-old stabbed two people on friday inside the home on the new brunswick campus and some say the incident hasn't raised safety concerns. >> and from what people are saying, it's unfortunate that it happened and not something that defines the rutgers culture overall and safety is not compromised on the rutgers campus. >> the suspect and victims were arguing before the stabbing and those victims are in stable condition. and to the championship chase and met fans waking up disappointed this morning. the team is on the brink of elimination after dropping game 4 to the royals last night and they must win game 5 tonight to keep the world series hopes alive and steve overmeyer has >> reporter: well, even though the mets got into the series with a winning game three, game four was as important and teams that took a three games to one lead went on to win the world series 88% of the time and

michael conforto started the season in single-a and he keeps going to him in the lineup. one of the nights he's going to break out and that happened. he breaks out of that 0 for 20 slump with an upper decker in the third and hit the second of the game in the fifth inning and the thing is, he hasn't done well against lefties all year and there is a touch time for everything. in july, they would not promote it because they didn't think he night. you could argue that the mets wouldn't be here without daniel murphy and they're also a game closer to elimination because of him. and his error in the 8th would tie the game. the royals ended up scoring three in the 8th and took a 5-3 lead -- the second save of the world series and casey closes tonight at city field. five-3 the final from the queens. >> and in post season, you can't give away outs and you have to make outs and can't give good teams opportunities

[ laughter ] >> and i have nowhere to play it anymore. >> right. >> and i can't throw it away. >> today's the big new york city marathon. 50,000 runners running around new york city and months of grueling training has come down to this moment. today's marathon. >> and it's a true test of endurance and determination and it's also a test of character, really. christine johnson learned last year that it doesn't always go as planned, no matter how much you prepare. >> the winds were blowing us, you know, backwards and forward. >> reporter: doing the interview after crossing the finish line last year is, frankly, the last thing i

the race didn't go my way. severely dehydrated, disoriented, and unstable. >> when i saw christine coming through harlem, i could tell something was wrong immediately. she was multiple shades paler than she typically is and her eyes really weren't there. and they were rolling in her head. >> reporter: a kind race volunteer ran next to me for a bit and it was an all-out mental and physical struggle. fighting to stay alert and ashamed i couldn't do better. i can't explain the emotional tug of war feeling the support of unconditional love from those closest to me. yet the sheer disappointment in myself. that was my post and that was the day after the race. i wrote it sitting in my bed still very emotional. tears rolling down my face and

can't think of it today without getting emotional. but the response that i received from people that know me. and people i had never met and it was truly overwhelming. and so, i am doing it again this year. result. do-over. and endless laps around the park i have logged a lot of miles. eight, 10, 18, 23, and sharing my journey on social media. i have learned there are no guarantees but that is not what this is about. >> it's the amount of training, the amount of dedication and it's the purpose of seeing something through. and really, i think it's a metaphor for life. >> and she's running this morning and finished last year. >> and she's disappointed. >> she did finish, didn't she?

routeing for you. >> right, and we wish her the best and everyone else and someone there is vanessa vanessa? ladies. there are 50,000-plus runners journey through new york city and so many of them are getting a last-minute rest in here behind us. if you get to the skies, they're overcast right now. this is the general trend for today and with some sprinkles moving through early and we look across the city skyline. 56 degrees. we have south-southwest winds at 6 miles an hour and as we look at what you can expect from not just today but your extended forecast, this is the deal. the overcast skies, the clouds domaetna today's forecast. some showers impacting us early on and we're looking at the light variety and by late day, breaks of clouds and some good news there.

mid-week, the forecast is unbelievable and a big warm-up. we're talking highs in the low 70s as we make our way into thursday. i'm loving the mid-week forecast. and on that vortex satellite and picture, you can see ample cloud cover and showers passing through. generally, they're leading to a few sprinkles across theiria and that is associated with two areas of low pressure and destablizing the atmosphere and we have the clouds and showers and by this afternoon, we'll see some sun and here we go. for today, mainly cloudy early with breaks later on and a high of 66 degrees and that is above seasonable and we should be in the upper 50s. the winds on the calm side and ramping up betweenen to and 15 miles per hour this afternoon out of the southwest and tonight is game 5 and that is do or die for the mets, 61 degrees tonight at 8:15. and skies are partly cloudy and overnight. 54 degrees under partly cloudy skies and that will translate to 40s in the suburbs. new to the extended forecast for your day tomorrow.

the possibility of wet weather tomorrow and that is trending drier. more sun to the north and south tomorrow tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday the forecast is pristine and talking tons of sunshine in the low 70s for tuesday, wednesday, and thursday, and we're back in the 60s. and closer to where we should be and not there as we make our way into friday and saturday. and so, it is, i think, pretty good weather compared to last year and here at fort wadsworth and we're talking about the marathon and i would like to introduce you to suzanna phillips and this is her first >> yes. >> and we're talking about preparation, physical and >> uh-huh. >> and what have you done? are you ready? >> i have been training for this particular race since may and doing the training program as much as i can and i have done up to 18 miles and i am ready to go. >> and i am curious here. an opera singer. >> yeah. >> and that takes a lot of >> uh-huh. >> do you think that is going

50 crossed the finish line and this is some serious stuff. i think the weather is going to let's get to it. the temperatures are in the 40s and 50s for us. 56 in central park and here at fort wadsworth, around 50; very mild. we look at the vortex satellite and radar picture, plenty of clouds and showers moving on through and really, they're bringing some very light rainfall as they pass on by and not a ton of rain expected. nonetheless, showers remain a until about noon today. and the breakdown is this at 9:00 a.m., cloudy and showers passing at 57 and winds out of the southwest at 10 and by noon, up to 61 degrees and i think it's mainly cloudy and we'll see breaks of sun and no longer a threat of showers. by 3, we're talking about mostly cloudy skies. yes, we will see the sun this warm side. 66 degrees and winds at that point out of the southwest and

and her husband planned to cut the 27-year-old son kyle out of their will. the police say that they obtained a text message from kyle about a, quote, perfect plan to get money for life. kyle and his girlfriend have been arrested and charged in the case. a statten island tj maxx will reopen after an incident with the deer. the crews had to come and cleanup glass after the deer crashed through the store's front window and a worker who arrived to open up found the deer wandering around inside and called police. and they came and removed the deer. >> imagine walking in and fining a deer roaming around tj maxx. >> and some boots for the winter. a group of young men is sporting the color orange for a new campaign to end gun violence. the movement is taking road in a city basketball program not immuned to bloodshed. here's more from jamaica queens. >> reporter: put it there face

>> this team of talented teenage ball players, orange t- shirts under their jerseys at the preseason game in jamaica queens is not making a fashion statement. no, orange is the new track toward their goal of trying to end gun violence. >> and if you take kids home and inner city communities from age 15 to 19, the leading cause of death. >> reporter: four players associated with the city's new renaissance basketball association have been shot this year or shot someone else. >> and one of our players got shot in the stomach and still has a bullet lodged in his body. >> reporter: and andy borman, the head of the program, said his young players came up with the idea dawning a -- donning a color standing for safety. >> and this year, all of the coaches and players will wear orange. >> i lost three friends over the years to gun violence and one in jail for shooting someone and two deaths of friends i went to middle school with. >> reporter: the high school
