walking there and it's kind of disturbing. i don't know what's being done about it but i think it deserves a lot of attention. >> reporter: this morning, extra police officers on patrol near eastern parkway. and new fliers now ohed asking for tips after this call last night from the 34-year-old victim. >> i've been stabbed. >> reporter: the urgent radio transmission from the off-duty ambulance volunteer. the private ems organization. the victim seen here in cellphone video being treated by colleagues after he says he was slashed by a man walk on eastern parkway near rogers avenue around 8:30 p.m. the victim says the suspect said nothing before attacking his right shoulder from behind. >> scream, i've been stabbed, i've been stabbed. police showed up like a minute later and right away closed the whole scene and made a crime scene. >> reporter: police spent the overnight and early this morning scouring the area for evidence as they tried to find the alleged suspect. police believe the attack was

random but the nypd hate crimes task force is now working to figure out if it was a bias attack. >> it's never good to hear that where you live, there's a possibility of crime happening so close to home. so it's kind of shocking too. >> reporter: police say the suspect was wearing black pantses -- black pants and a white hockey mask. >> around here it doesn't really happen. >> reporter: police say the suspect was last seen running east down eastern parkway. so far investigators not found the weapon used during the attack. reporting from crown heights brooklyn, janelle burrell, cbs 2 news. police are investigating another attack in the area. investigators say a 49-year-old face. he refused medical attention that case. news. a child in a stroller and an adult hit by a car in brooklyn. chopper 2 flew over the scene just a short while ago.

it happened at the intersection of 67th street and 11th avenue around 10:30. the victims were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. police say no criminality was involved. scary moments 9 a brooklyn school after -- moments at a brooklyn school. classes wereed for the day -- classes were canceled after a facebook post warning students not to come to the school. police say a suspect randomly attacked two men on a manhattan-bound c train yesterday afternoon. it happened just before the train pulled into the ralph avenue station in ocean hill. the 32-year-old neal and maenades and a second man are being treated for slash mark on their heads -- neal ramirez and

for slash marks on their heads. andrea grymes explains from east harlem. >> reporter: you would never know the mta has big plans for a brand new subway to run through here to 125th street. that's either good or bad depending on who you ask. >> a huge help for the 2nd avenue subway to be finished. >> we have buses running up here. so we don't need that. >> reporter: phase one of the project on the upper east side is set for completion next year. and back in may, we got a tour of the new tunnels that will help overcrowding on the nearby lexington line. but now there's renewed concern about funding the second phase. the mta's recently approved capital program allocates $535 million to the start phase two. that's $1 billion less than originally proposed last year. this also means this portion will not be complete until after 2019. >> i do the think it came as a surprise to many people that

there was a change in the funding and i think that has to be reconsidered. >> reporter: the mta chair says, quote, this reflects the work we can realistly accomplish in the next four years given the constraints on heavy construction in a densely populated section of manhattan. the mta relies heavily on the money if the city and state. a 2nd avenue business owner is glad for the delay after seeing how upper east side businesses have suffered during phase one construction. >> business is bad enough without getting disturbed. and once you get disturbed, you go out. >> reporter: better if you others looking to cut the commute time, work cannot start soon enough. >> less crowds and i would be able to get home earlier. >> reporter: the chair says the governor has made clear he wants them to accelerate work on the 2nd avenue subway and they are looking for ways to do just that. andrea grymes, cbs 2 news. >> congress members sent a letter to the mta chair yesterday asking for

reassurance that the project is not being placed on the back burner. day two of former state assembly sheldon silver's corruption trial underway. prosecutors are trying to prove that silver took millions of dollars in kickbacks. the charges stem from alleged deals with two law firms. he is accused of steering state grants to a doctor under the guise of cancer research. he then allegedly referred patients to a law firm associated with silver. the doctor is expected to take the stand today. an mta bus driver is due in court this afternoon charged in a hit-and-run that left an elderly woman dead in brooklyn. the 40-year-old paul roper was arrested yesterday and suspended without pay. the victim's damaged walk was at the scene of the accident. a bus making a turn hit the 70- year-old carroll bell yesterday morning, killing her. police say roper was headed back to the depot and did not stop. investigators now say the

death of a decorated police officer in illinois two months ago was not murder but a staged suicide by a cop involved in criminal activity. we are the story. >> reporter: authorities in fox lake, illinois say the death of lieutenant charles joseph gliniewicz was a carefully staged suicide. >> we have determined this staged suicide was the end result of extensive criminal acts that lieutenant charles joseph gliniewicz had been committing. >> reporter: after reviewing thousands of text message, phone calls and emails, investigators have determined lieutenant charles joseph gliniewicz was stealing and laundererring money. >> thousands of dollars were used by lieutenant charles joseph gliniewicz for personal purchases, travel expenses, mortgage payments, personal gym memberships, adult websites. >> reporter: the highly decorated officer was on patrol in september when he was shot with his own weapon. he had radioed that he was chasing three suspects on foot before his body was found.

that sparked a massive manhunt that left the small community on edge. thousands of mourners and police officers from across the nation turned out for the funeral of the u.s. army veteran, affection nattily known as gi joe. his wife delivered an emotional tribute. >> joe was my best friend. my world. my hero. >> reporter: before today's announcement, the family had dismissed any suggestion of suicide. they say the 52-year-old father of four sons was looking forward to his up. coming retirement -- to his upcoming retirement. >> the investigation indicates at least two others were also involved in the criminal activity. quentin tarantino stands his ground. the director told the la times he is standing by his remarks condemning police brutality. police unions across the country have called for a boy scott of quentin tarantino's upcoming film after comments he made at a new york rally. he says he never said or implied that all police

officers are murders. in the race for district attorney on staten island, democrat michael mcmahon defeated the republican. he is a former congressman and city council man. and on long island, democrat madeline singas easily defeated veteran republican for nassau county district attorney. and in race for suffolk county executive, steve bellone won re- election for a second term. well the wreckage of the russian jet liner in egypt is yielding new clues. we are in cairo with the investigation's new focus. >> reporter: the search area has been widened again to 15 square miles. russian officials say the effort will continue for at least two more days and can be extended if necessary. yesterday's search yielded some small parts of the plane, personal belongings and fragments of human remains. more than 30 bodies have been identified.

the plane drifted on to the road. >> my god. >> reporter: witnesses watched in amazement. >> we're going to crash. we're going to try to find a place that's clear. >> reporter: a single-engine plane suspended by a parachute, gliding to the ground. >> there's a plane coming down with a parachute. >> man down. >> reporter: it landed on this stretch of road, the entire aircraft still intact. >> looked up, there was a plane that was like free falling and then popped a parachute. >> reporter: seconds before touchdown, the plane struck a pickup truck. the driver and all three people onboard the plane including a pilot, bill simon, a former walmart ceo walked away with minor injuries. >> they popped the emergency chute on the plane which brought them down slowly. >> reporter: that emergency parachute is built into the plane's fuselage, a standard feature on this aircraft since the 1990s.

the brothers who designed it was, there should be another option that the penalty for bad judgment, for bad luck shouldn't be death. >> reporter: in january, a pilot landed this plane in the middle of the pacific ocean after it ran out of fuel enroute to hawaii. and in 2090, mechanical problems forced another plane to deploy his shoot over a washington, d.c. suburb. both pilots survived. >> this is the 50th incident where one of the parachutes have been used. there's 30,000 aircrafts that have the parachutes onboard. they are credited with saving more than 200 live. the ntsb and the faa are looking into the incident in arkansas. even if you don't smoke, the next story should serve as a warning. more people use ecigarettes as a safer alternative. but what many don't know, they come with big risks of their own. >> a blow torch-type fire and then an explosion.

i wanted to share a few more picture, cobalt blue skies there. and i like this rose from ralph on the island. just gorgeous. a bonus day in november. close enough to the house, hanging on to the heat, very flowers. so we have 69 degrees right now. control. we have sunny skies. and it is, watch this, when the mobile weather lab takes off, you're going to see that it is an autumn winter today. temperatures above normal, close to where we were yesterday. and tomorrow is an interesting day, we have morning fog, the southeast wind is starting to set up. so later today and overnight into tomorrow, particularly south shore and jersey show, you're going to see fog. and then a 30% chance of a shower thursday afternoon. friday, a more dynamic day. a southwest wind flirting with record temperatures. but you also have a front on the way.

a late crop peach, you will be very disappointed. you have to follow these directions carefully. when you buy them, make sure to have the beautiful color all the way around and not too soft. fairly firm to the touch. -- fairly firm to the touch. store them on the counter and don't wait until they're soft. with just a little bit of a give, they're ready to eat. the sugar is not there, the juice is not full like in the summertime peaches but they are good for this time of year. if you wait till they're too soft, that's disappointing. late variety peaches for the fall, in the market, still good but select and store them carefully. and i'm tony tantillo, your fresh grocer, always remember to eat fresh and stay healthy. this one will be good. and this one too. >> look good. when we come back, dog
