the mild side. so certainly, a difference from yesterday in many ways but weekend. right now, 62, headed to 63. day. and again chance now to a developing story. >> police say a shooter killed a man and hurt two others including a 6-year-old girl. the scene. >> reporter: right now, police are looking for the gunman. this morning we saw them driving through neighborhood doing extra patrols. they are very concerned because the bullets went flying on to the porch where children were hit. investigators still looking for answers behind this deadly plainfield. as many as seven shots were fired in this residential neighborhood at 2:30 yesterday

afternoon. and a man was killed walking on the sidewalk, just feet away from a group of children. >> so that let's me know that the person who did it didn't liver around here because they knew the kids would be outside. the kids are outside all the time. >> reporter: neighbors tell us that the children had been playing on the porch at the time. you can see bullets struck the fence and pierced through home. police say one of the stray bullets grazed a woman and another hit a 6-year-old girl in the leg. >> classmates? >> yeah,. >> okay. and they were just playing? >> yeah, just playing. >> reporter: edgar owns the house where this happened. he says the 6-year-old was here visiting his daughter and he tells us that his wife was the supervising those kids. she was treated at the scene before giving statements to the police. >> how is the little one doing? >> still in the hospital. >> reporter: friends say the little girl has been recovering at the hospital after getting shot twice. >> she's okay. that's the really good thing. >> reporter: police say the man killed out here was unrelated

to the group on the porch. at this point, it's unclear if he was the intended target as shooting. how do you deal with something like this as a neighborhood? >> it's hard for us because now we're really on edge. >> reporter: so the neighbors are so alarmed after the shooting out here. and this morning, they're themselves in. and at this point, police are victims' names. live in plainfield, ilana gold, cbs 2 news. >> thank you. and now a developing story. two officers in louisiana have been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing a 6-year- old autistic boy and injuring his father in a chase. they were taken into custody yesterday by louisiana state police. the boy's father remains in the hospital. visitation for his son's funeral is set for tomorrow at a funeral home in mississippi. back here at home today, family and friends will say a final good-bye to a man and his

granddaughter who were struck halloween night. an out of control car jumped a curb, killing the 10-year-old, her grandfather, a 65-year-old and a 24-year-old. the 24-year-old's funeral was held earlier this week. the funeral for the two will begin this morning at 10:00 at harvestfield community church in bronx. police say the driver may have had a seizer before the crash. mayor de blasio says it's been a tough week for drivers city. just last night, an 86-year-old crossing westend avenue. the driver remained on the charges. on thursday night, an 84-year- old woman was hit and killed as she tried to cross the street. police the driver of a charter bus like this one did not stop and continued to connecticut. investigators are now questioning that driver. residents complain there's too

>> this is a matter of great shame for her? >> absolutely. absolutely. >> reporter: sergeant scott fuller was honorably discharged from the army last week. lou young, cbs 2 news. police are on the hunt for a group of robbers who attacked a 78-year-old man in brooklyn. the nypd released this video of the robbers shoving and pushing the elderly man against a vehicle around 10:00 thursday night. investigators say they grabbed his wallet from the pocket before they finally take off. the man was not hurt. also new, police are searching for two people who attacked a woman walk through morningside park and tried to snatch her purse. police released this picture of the suspects. they appear to be women. and it happened around 6:00 wednesday night near west 116th street. investigators say the suspects took off empty handed after the 24-year-old victim resisted and another person walked by. demanding answers and getting them. mayor de blasio has announced a

newark and jersey city. crews will spend that time doing drainage work and other construction as part of renovations. the road re-opens monday at 5:00 a.m. there are service changes on new jersey transit. beginning sunday overnight trains on the morris and essex lines and the train from dover will operate on a new schedule. and transit officials say the changes are part of a plan to close a $60 million budget gap. >> and riders that take the 7 train from times square will have to find another way to get around this weekend. there's no service until monday morning. the line is closed for track and infrastructure work. free buses will provide alternate services. and many people were wondering where fall went. let's see if crisp temperatures are on their way back. >> they are. temperatures today will be in the low to mid-60s. 10 degrees cooler than yesterday. and tomorrow in the mid-50s. so over the entirety of the weekend, 20 degrees cooler by

and overnight lows tonight will be about 30 degrees cooler than they were last night. so let's go ahead shall we? take a look live outside. clouds overhead from high atop the empire state building. mild and breezy though. 62 degrees, winds west, northwest at 15 miles per hour. and the headlines. for today, we're in the low 60s right now. and that's pretty much where we stay. nearly steady temperatures for your saturday. and then tonight it gets so much cooler and tomorrow it is really feeling like fall with highs in the mid- and upper 50s to end your weekend. we should be at 57. so today's high was actually 72 degrees. but that happened close to the midnight hour and temperatures have been steadily dropping. for the rest of the day, we will stay steady in the low and mid-60s. so certainly something to think about and then sunset tonight is at 4:46. the temperature trend, as mentioned, felt more like summer, especially yesterday or at least the the tail end of

summer, 74 degrees was the high yesterday. and at midnight tonight, it was 72. and it's dropping. the daytime warmth will be about low to mid-60s. and tomorrow, a high of 55. and monday it's 58 but we will couple the 50s with a lot of sunshine. and yes, yesterday's high of 74 degrees is the normal high for may 29th. that time of year when we are looking forward to summer and that 80-degree warmth. and now we're going the opposite direction. we will cool down through the weekend. we have cloud cover right now. and this will stay the course for today. mainly cloudy skieses, notice some showers beginning to make their way in from the southwest. this all associated with a front and an area of low pressure to the southwest. so today there's a chance for showers out there. but best bet will be south of the city. and for today, looking at the lingering chance of wet weather. tomorrow high pressure is the dominate feature with sun is shine and cooler air as well, a fall feel tomorrow, the mid-50s with a stiff breeze. and monday, a cool beauty,

i'm andrea grymes. >> and i'm diane macedo. first, vanessa murdock has a look at the forecast. sounds like we have a cool down, right? >> yes, a big cool down. especially compared to yesterday and fast forward to tomorrow, about a 20-degree difference. today about a 10 degrees difference. certainly we are in transition with temperatures dropping off throughout the weekend. and right now, it's on the mild side. but we're not going to warm up now. 62 in central park. 63 in the hamptons. it's 52 in methodist hospital sell low. 59 in -- in monticello. we've got clouds out there and some wet weather on the way. there's a chance for showers today. best bet will be south of the city. and you can see that trend. looks like spotty activity making its way in. big picture is this, a front nearby and an area of low pressure to the south.

about police shootings. the executive director of the fraternal order of police tells the hollywood reporter his members will surprise quentin tarantino but it's unclear when, where or how. the union though does want to hurt the director financially after he spoke at a protest against police brutality. and officers are also threatening to boycott the director's new movie. and several police associations in suffolk county, long island are pledging solidarity. they released a statement that reads in part, quote, his words and actions help cripple the police who are the only line of defense in an ever-increasing violent world for those people that do not enjoy the riches that this man does. boycott quentin tarantino's films. the u.s. has increased security at overseas airports following the crash of a russian jetliner last week. investigators try to determine if the plane was bombed. you. >> reporter: u.s. homeland

security will expand its screening of everything going on aircrafts at overseas airports, including checked and carry-on luggage and catering and other items loaded on planes and they'll conduct an airport assessment of passengerrer and baggage screening procedures at about 10 airports across the middle east and north africa. >> we talk the shoe bomber, printer cartridges, this these all happened overseas but they were b coming into the u.s. >> reporter: russian officials say they have taken samples from the crash site in the desert that will be tested for explosives. that could confirm whether a bomb caused the jet explosion which killed 224 people. u.s. satellite images show a series of heat flashes at the time the plane went down but it's unclear whether the flashes were from a bomb or mechanical failure. u.s. and british intelligence have intercepted chatter from isis talking about the crash. if the downing of the metro jet

this happened yesterday afternoon. the 6-year-old girl was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. a woman who was also hit received medical treatment at the scene. two officers in louisiana have been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing an autistic boy and injuring his father during a chase. louisiana state police say the 6-year-old was killed on tuesday. his father remains in the hospital. the officers are both charged with second degree murder and attemped second degree murder. there's no 7 train service between times squares and morning. the line is closed for track work. new jersey's skyway is also shut down this weekend for construction. morning at 5:00. weather forecast. vanessa murdock with a look at that. >> well, clouds today, and cooler than it's been. in the low to mid-60s today. and where we are right now is where we're going to stay. and we do have a chance for a few showers today. but the best bet will be south
