is here with a look at the second half of our weekend. the fall temperatures are officially back. >> yesterday was a transitional day. today we're seasonable. much more sunshine. there will be quite a stiff breeze out of the northwest. while we'll be in the mid-50s, it will feel more like upper 40s and low 50s today. let's look at the temperatures. right now it's so much coppedder than it was yesterday at -- colder than it was yesterday at 7:01. 36 in monticello. belmar at 43. the hamptons 45. when we look at the 24-hour temperature change, so to 19 degrees cooler right now than it was yesterday. so certainly much cooler today. we'll see lots of sunshine on the vortex satellite and radar picture. you can watch as the clouds make their exit off to the southeast. so beautiful blue skies for today. the story does change, though, as we make our way into the workweek. we'll talk about that in your full forecast. right now look at the break down of your day. 9:00 a.m. 48 and mostly sunny. by noon sunny and 52. late other 55.

and then by 9:00 it's clear skies and 45. we'll be breezy as i mentioned today. winds generally out of the northwest at 10 to 15. we could see some gusts as high as 20 miles per hour. i'll have your full forecast coming up and we'll talk about much needed rain that may have put some numbers in the bank on back to you. >> have necessary is a, thank you -- vanessa, thank you. a funeral will be held today for another victim of 9/11. >> nypd lieutenant marci sims died of cancer, one of 1700 people who died following their work at the 9/11 attacks. we have more on that. ilana? >> reporter: hundreds this morning are going to pay their respects to marci sims. she was so dedicated to her work here at the world trade center site and this is where she paid the ultimate sacrifice. dat community will say goodbye -- today the community will say

she lost her battle with cancer at the age of 51. >> it was just smoky. you felt like it was burning your throat. >> reporter: that's sims talking in a video last year about responding to 9/11 and the conditions she worked in. sims spent four months at the site doing rescue recovery and cleanup as a rookie officer. her health then deteriorated as she moved up the ranks. >> i had a back ache. i thought i did something wrong working around the house but i noticed a lump on my stomach. even the doctor thought it was a cyst. >> reporter: the cyst was lounge cancer that had spread. her sister spoke to us on the phone about her passion. >> she said she wanted to be a little girl when she was a little girl and she was. she followed her dream. >> reporter: she says marci sims will be remembered for her love for life. >> she had an amazing personality. when she walked into the room, the room lit up. >> reporter: sims and her

year. the loss. >> she also came to this park knowing sadly one day she would be on this wall. we humbly will honor marci next year when we do the reading of the names. >> reporter: field now speaking out about medical coverage for those in sims' position. her costs were taken care of by the 9/11 act but congress failed to renew it. it lex pair in october of next year. >> what about those whose families are being torn apart by 9/11-related illnesses about you they have a cloud of uncertainty because the nation's leaders can't come together to pass a bipartisan bill. >> reporter: advocates are pushing for congress to look at this issue again and vote next on renewing the bill. the funeral for marci sims is at 11:00 this morning at gutterman's funeral home in woodbury, new york. we're live in lower manhattan >> thank you. we have new information

shooting in plainfield, new jersey. officials have identified 24- year-old anthony bowles as the man who was killed. a 33-year-old woman and her 6- year-old niece were also injured. people who live nearby say they're afraid no one is safe in that neighborhood now. >> somebody saw something. somebody needs to talk. we live here. we should be safe. we should be safe. >> police haven't made any arrests in the case. this morning police are searching for suspects in separate stabbings that took place in two busy sections of manhattan. the first one happened in herald square around 5:00 yesterday morning. the second about 12 hours later in union square. in the herald square incident, police say a 25-year-old woman was stacked in the chest by argument. in union square, a man was stabbed on east 16th street by a suspect described as bald and wearing a green jacket. friends and family said a final goodbye to a child and her grandfather both killed bronx. the funeral was held yesterday for 10-year-old nyanna aquil

they died on halloween after a car lost control, jumped the curb and slammed into them. police say the driemp may have had a see -- driver may have loved ones are struggling to cope with the loss. >> i just want peace for my daughter and for my father at the end of this. family. devastated. >> it's hard for me to know that my best friend is gone. >> another man also was killed. the driver is currently not facing criminal charges. new this morning, a search is under way in brooklyn after police say a man robbed several offices in a building in brighton beach. police have just released this photo of the suspect. investigators say on october 30 just before 4:00 a.m., he used the fire escape to gain access into the building and once inside stole electronics and money from four offices. also new this morning a rescue in the waters of the great south bay. here's a look at the scene. suffolk county police say the marine bureau officers saved three adults and three children

there a boat that hit a sand bar during a fishing trip. it happened off east fire island yesterday. a 40-year-old man suffer add head injury, was -- suffered a head injury, was taken to the hospital. the man's 11-year-old son was also hurt but is expected to be okay. mission arrested two people accused of shoving a man on to the subway tracks in philadelphia. the suspects can be scene robbing michael kramer last month. kramer says they beat:and used a taser on him -- beat him and used a taser on him before blowing him on -- throwing him on to the tracks. >> they left me there to die. they probably hoped that i didn't this way they wouldn't get charged. >> police say thanks to that surveillance video they arrested the two suspects. back here at hope, many residents of glen cove, long island welcomed plans to develop a former superfund site. >> many now say the project was suddenly altered and they're not happy with the size and

>> reporter: the shores of glen cove for decades an untapped jewel marred with industrial pollution a superfund site but 20 years of cleanup and planning promised a destination. >> it was supposed to be a marine take, a waterfront, restaurants, shops, retail. >> reporter: now residents claim they've been blind sided by 11th hour changes. >> we never expected a huge montross city. >> it's just too -- montross city. >> it's too big. >> new plans now include two residential towers, 12 stories each with 1100 units. opponents dub it an urban-scale giant they fear will tap out roads and services and mar waterfront views for miles. >> it's completely out of character with what exists here. there is nothing like it on long island anywhere. >> reporter: size comparisons include massive rxr plaza in union dale, home to the

investigators say they're still trying to figure out the source of a sound heard on the cockpit voice recorder before a russian plane crashed in egypt. the u.s. and britain think it may have been a bomb. but crash investigators say it could have been caused by a fuel tank or a lithium battery explosion or even fatigue in the body of the aircraft. u.s. satellite images show a series of heat flashes at the time the plane went down last week killing all 224 people on u.s. homeland security is expanding the screening of

kevin vaughn was presented with a key to a beautiful new house in north merrick yesterday all thanks to the nonprofit group build homes for heroes. vaughn was given the two-story cape cod style home mortgage free. >> four years ago a huge door closed for me when i was injured, but now today four years later, this brand new beautiful house, a thousand doors just opened for him. >> one of his legs had to be amputated after the armored car he was riding in was bombed. >> his smile just lit up his face in that. take a look at this incredible video out of eastern mississippi. a large sinkhole has swallowed more than a dozen vehicles outside of an i hop restaurant. it happened in meridian about 100 miles east of jackson. police say about 15 vehicles fell into the 50-foot wide hole last night. officials say no one has been hurt. >> lucky for that. >> absolutely. time to check in with

vanessa murdock and your weather forecast. it was a little cooler outside today when i went outside. >> i wore my winter coat in this morning. this afternoon more of a light jacket but nonetheless big changes over the past 48 hours, especially. and it is going to stay on the cooler, more seasonable side of things for really the next week. i want to take you live outside stunning. the sun reflecting off of one the blue skies. it is a beautiful start to your day, but it is chilly. 46 degrees right now. we have northwest winds at 9 miles per hour. your headlines for today blue skies. nice tomorrow as well. but right now tuesday is looking wet, and that's a good thing. we need some rain. the deficit over 8 inches for the year. it looks like tuesday we'll be able to put some rain in the bucket and help with that situation. temperatures this morning so much cooler than yesterday. in some instances as much as 20

so right now we're at 35 in middletown. tarrytown at 43. 40 in danbury. across the region 40. chatham 46 and spring lake 43. so cool right now and for today seasonable. we're anticipating a high of 55 degrees. the normal high is 57. sunset is tonight at 4:45. on the vortex satellite and radar picture, you saw the live picture. you saw the scene. skies are blue. we have a few thin clouds out there, and that is the picture for today. high pressure is in control. stays in control for today and even most of tomorrow. but then things do start to change. so for today it is a fall feel, a nice brisk breeze out of the northwest. tomorrow, though, this high slides off the coast. winds become a little more southerly. so we jump those temperatures up by a few degrees. then tuesday rain returns to the forecast with low pressure skimming up the coastline. we're looking at some possibilities. next says of 2 inches on tuesday.

here's -- in excess of 2 inches on tuesday. here's the deal. a much need -- much needed soaking rains on tuesday as it looks right now. there will also be a chilly northeast wind so it's not going to be a day that's warm and wet. it's going to be a day that's kind of raw out there. but we need the rain. it looks like right now we'll get some on tuesday. today no concerns for rain whatsoever. blue skies. a breeze. and temperatures seasonable in the mid and upper 50s for the most part. 55 in the city as we as white plains and montauk. 57 for freehold. morristown, newark at 59 and monticello will top out at 49. overnight tonight with skies still clear, temperatures will drop off again, even chillier than they were this morning. in the city we'll be at 41. middletown below freezing at 31. westport 40. whiting 36 degrees. you get the point. most of us in the 30s and low 40s to start off your workweek. tomorrow afternoon after a sun- filled end to your weekend, we keep the sunshine in play tomorrow. 58 degrees.

the clouds will thicken late, though, in advance of the rain moving in on tuesday. so here is the deal. tuesday 59 degrees right now. it is looking wet. in some cases we could see some heavy rain, but it does look to be a pretty steady rain all day long. wednesday 62. a beautiful day as it looks right now for veterans day. thursday a cold front will bring us another opportunity for some range, but as we head into the weekend, skies are again clearing out. high pressure is building in. temperatures are dropping and the sun shine is returning. >> so you were saying yesterday we really need the rain and it looks like tuesday is when we'll get it. >> yes. and yesterday, tuesday wasn't looking as impressive. it was looking like the models were keeping the storm to the south a bit more. today it's looking better for us because we need the rain but it could certainly hinder commuting on tuesday both in the a.m. and p.m. >> still seems like pretty nice fall weather if you look at the week overall. >> i think so. perfect week. >> thank you. two 7-eleven store owners are trading jabs over football star tom brady. a colorado store owner added a

she's just one of roughly 1700 people who died because of their work at the world trade center site. next year crucial help for those still suffering could be gone. cbs 2's ilana gold joins us live from lower manhattan this morning. >> reporter: andrea, the family of marci sims is heart broken and calls her a true hero. she didn't think twice about going into ground zero and helping out with rescues. in just a few hours hundreds will pay their respects. today the community will say goodbye to nypd lieutenant marci sims. she lost her battle with cancer at the age 561. >> it was just -- age of 51. >> it was just smoky. >> reporter: that's sims talking in a video last year about responding to 9/11 and the conditions she worked in. sips spent four months at the site doing rescue recovery and cleanup as a rookie officer. her health deteriorated as she moved up the ranks. >> i had a back ache. i thought i did something wrong working around the house but i noticed a lump on my stomach.

the second about 12 hours late near union square. in the herald square incident police say a 25-year-old woman was stabbed in the chest by another woman following some sort of an argument n. union square a man was stabbed on 16th street by a suspect described as bald wearing a green jacket. there's a battle over property taxes on long island. the nassau county executive has put a 1.2% hike back in next year's budget after the county legislature voted to remove it. now lawmakers have to decide whether to try to again reverse his decision. the county executive says the additional $12 million is needed to cover higher health care costs and lower sales tax ruts. -- receipts. imagine receiving in your home for 20 years making -- living in your home for again years making payments every month and a moving truck pulls up and forces you out. >> how could this happen? it's much easier than you think to be a victim of a stolen home.

technically trespassing on their own property. >> it kills me i can't go inside my house. >> reporter: they can't go inside because the fairlawn home no longer belongs to them. it was stolen. >> you work. you work hard for what you have. and then things like this happen. >> reporter: it all started in 2005 when the couple received an offer in the mail to refinance and consolidate their bills. >> it looked great. so we went along with it. >> reporter: but what the couple didn't know, it was all an elaborate scheme to steal their deed and strip the equity from their house. >> people start to think that, oh, this is all part of a process. they end up giving out the information. the information can then be used to prepare all these documents and this morning signatures and -- forge signatures and all the rest and then the person is out of a home. >> reporter: hundreds of other local homeowners also fell victim to the same scam artists.

sent to jail. >> imagine losing your home, your kids grow up there. you put the little line on the doorway every time your little baby girl gets two inches taller. then one day there's moving trucks with boxes that says get out we want this property. >> reporter: the home which eventually fell into foreclosure was sold at auction and is now the property of the federal home loan mortgage corps. freddie mac as it's more commonly known. they said they'll sell the house back but at full market price which is about $160,000 more than what the couple originally paid in 1995. >> obviously they're not happy about that. they're not happy to buy back their home that should never have been taken from them. >> reporter: especially after already shelling out more than $100,000 they say in legal fees. >> it's not right. it's not fair. >> reporter: but freddi mack told cbs 2 it wouldn't be fair to sell the home back for anything else. the company said this protects taxpayers by reducing our losses and also supports local
