6:23 am
>> how do you do that? they have the smart phones and ipads and go to school, even at an early age? >> i work in a high school during the day and i spoke the high school. so it's sort of this idea that this. they're not discussing it the same way we are as adults. they hear about it and then they're talking about the school dance or soccer game. they're more interested in that stuff. >> what did you tell the kids yesterday that you are speaking you? >> i asked them, what did you hear? and they said, yeah, we heard. is it a thing going on in the school and everybody said not really. >> so what if you do have the one little kid who is the exception and comes up and says, mommy, is this going to happen here? am i safe? what do you say? >> so if we have a kid that's been exposed to this stuff through the media, we want the tell our kids that we are safe. we live in the safest country on the planet. and our family is safe. don't live in fear. don't go out there talking about.
6:24 am
we don't want to address it to the point where we're rehashing this over and over and over again. so i think again, more importantly, we don't want in the back grounds of the house the television on, the news on because the kids absorb everything around us is. >> what parents should be doing is keeping the television off when the kids are in the room. >> 100%. >> is there something wrong about not being honest with your kids if they are curious about what's going on? >> if you have younger kid, eight, nine years old, i have a 9-year-old, i will ask them, have you heard anything? and my daughter says, no, i don't know anything. so ignorance is bliss. so if my child did hear something, yeah, there was something terrible that happened. and again, address it. yes, there are terrible people in the world but there's more great people in the world. >> yeah, why do they want to hurt me? we saw the video we were showing this week of a little young boy in paris, i don't know if you saw that. >> i did see that, yeah. >> who was worried that he would have to move and asking his father. >> i think in that situation,
6:25 am
that boy lives in the middle of the battle zone. so his dad handled that well. told him that we deal with flower, we don't deal with guns. and sort of relayed to his son that you're safe, i'm your father. and at the end of the day, that's what we want to do, embrace them and make them feel safe. >> thank you so much. >> thanksgiving for having me. >> and for more information, head to cbsnewyork.com. over to you. >> thank you. difficult conversation. time now 6:26. the new way to give back for the holidays. this morning a woman is behind bars after allegedly stabbing another woman to death in bronx. we will have the latest on the investigation and more on the baby found at the scene. and there's something fishy in brooklyn. residents are complaining over the smell of dead fish. so why is it hanging like a display in the neighborhood? we will tell you. every sip. the taste uniquely dunkin'.
