inside and outside of the bowery subway station which is now closed. officers initially responded to suspects -- suspect gunmen on the platform. they will face many dangerous of several shooters. it is preparation for attacks against the city and it was planned before the paris terrorist attacks. >> while we do not have a credible threat situation, we have been preparing. >> reporter: they are ensuring commuters are safe. even the pd commissioner took a ride. we feel we are still very well prepared on the defense protection side. if an event were to occur, for which we have no credible intelligence, that we are prepared to respond to it.

in the upper 50s. on the board -- the board tax satellite and radar, there are a few showers holding on on the south fork of long island. unfortunately, we will have wet here's why. a cold front with low pressure down here. it will move up the coast and bring added moisture. so, showers are a possibility as we move through the day. i will show you what it looks like hour-by-hour. for this morning, plenty of clouds, especially over the city, east and south. as you make your way to the north and to the west of the city, there will be more breaks in the clouds expected. overnight, skies will clear and get so clear and it will be breezy. temperatures will dive and it will be chilly tomorrow. not just in the morning, but through the entirety of the day.

performers, what are the highlights?>> we have anyone from mariah carey to pat benatar and sean mendez who everybody loves. it runs the gamut. >> reporter: a long list. >> yes. >> reporter: you have a whole tradition that goes around inflating the balloons. talk about that process.>> we have to bring the balloons to life for the next big day. around 10:00 or 11:00 in the morning, we bring in the balloons and we inflate them one by one. it has become an incredible new york tradition. we get about 1 million people who come to see the balloons being brought to life. kids and parents are in the streets around the hysterical society -- the historical society and we have a lot of fun. >> reporter: i know with the

and lower manhattan this morning, ilana gold , cbs2 news of fire at stony brook university forcing the evacuation of a residence hall. it began in an empty dorm room at the long island campus. students were kept out of the building last night as a precaution. nobody was hurt. looking for a man who police say robbed a kennedy fried chicken restaurant in the bronx. there is surveillance video of the man climbing onto the counter and walking across to the cash register just after midnight. he pulled out a knife and took $300 in cash. you can see half a dozen people inside. police say nobody was hurt. police are searching for the man who shot someone in suffolk county. the man on the other side of the door was hit in the chest around 9:00 friday evening on

the man that was shot is in critical condition at huntington hospital. a two-year-old boy fell out of a third-floor window earlier this week. he is now back home recovering. on wednesday, he leaned on a screen and tumbled out the window. the family is in the montana -- the family lives in the mott haven section of the bronx. he was in the hospital for a few days for -- -- for a few days. >> no broken bones, no fractures, no bruises, no bumps. it is a reason -- it is a blessing.>> reporter: there were no window cars on the -- guards on the third floor of the home. amsterdam avenue
