it began at about 5:45 this morning with a series of smoking hand moles around the corner from the school and they believe carbon monoxide may have drifted into the basement of the school. and the school, all 570 students were evacuated. the grades pre-k through eighth grade and they have special education kids. so we saw many in wheelchairs being escorted out just a little while ago. they were taken to nearby ps 33 just blocks away. some of them walked and some were taken by bus. and school security tells us that they have an evacuation smoothly. it's not going to interfere with the school day at ps 33 because they are being kept in the auditorium and parents and there. what's the cause? they'll only say at the moment it's some kind of equipment failure that they have not been

that prompted the evacuation. but school officials tell us, everyone is okay. reporting live from queens village, carolyn gusoff, cbs 2 news. >> thank you. a mother was found shot in the head in her apartment. this noon, police are searching for the suspected gunman. janelle burrell joins us live with more. >> reporter: well, chris, police say the woman's little boy was actually inside of that apartment when his father allegedly killed that mom inside of the second floor unit here. now we have seen detectives in and out of the home all day, canvassing the area for evidence as they search for the killer who neighbors say had a history of violence. >> really close to home. it's really, really close to home. and it's scary. >> reporter: neighbors looked on horrified, watching investigators go in and out of

bogart avenue in bronx this afternoon. it's where police say the 28- year-old was found dead, killed by a bullet to her head. that gunshot allegedly fired by her son's father. >> we were asleep. we didn't hear anything. >> it was a shock. i woke up and see all of these here cars. >> reporter: police say just before 4:00 this morning while she was home, her 6-year-old spontaneous 20-year-old nephew were in another room. -- 6-year-old son and 20-year- old nephew were in another room. the nephew telling police he heard arguing and then a shot. and then he found her dead on the floor. >> she was abused. she was beaten. >> reporter: a neighbor next door to the home says the former couple was often heard arguing. >> always fighting. that i hear. >> reporter: but in public, she says the alleged killer displaid a different image. >> he was a nice guy. he would say, hi, graped ma, good morning grand march he would walk him to school.

>> reporter: the apartment that the family called home for only a few months now called a murder scene. detectives hoping the clues found lead to an arrest. >> i don't know what to say. i really don't. you know, i really, my heart pours out to the family. i hope they catch him. i really do. >> reporter: now police were called to the home several times but no arrests were ever made. police will only say that the suspect is believed to be about 0 years old. he was last seen driving away from the scene here if a silver or gray honda odyssey mini van. they have not released his name. as for the couple's young son, he was taken to an area hospital to be checked out. reporting live this noon from the morris section of bronx, janelle burrell, cbs 2 news. >> thank you. new at noon, police are investigating the stack death of a man. neighbors called for help after

yelling call 911 at 2:00 a.m. witnesses say the young man was running out of the home. officers responded to the scene and found a 66-year-old man stabbed to death inside. police are now questioning that 19-year-old. a car slams into two the pedestrians and then crashes into the wall of a restaurant in queens and now police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who left the scene. diane macedo has new details. >> reporter: police are investigating to try to uncover who was behind the wheel of this car and what made the the driver plow into the restaurant morning. neighbors say they didn't see what happened but they heard it. >> there was a loud sound. you heard the screech of a car and a boom. so you know it was a crash of some kind but then maybe a few minutes later, you heard the sirens from the police car and what sounded like an ambulance. >> reporter: the man who owns

>> about 2:30, i hear the car, the tires, a lot of noise. and after sending, i hear the building. next door, the car going inside. >> reporter: video shows the moments leading up to the crash. you can see the white infiniti traveling westbound on hempstead avenue before cutting across the intersection on to springfield boulevard. you can see the tire tracks and debris left behind as the car slammed into the billing and hit two men in their 20s leaving each with a broken leg. >> somebody look like, i see him lying on the floor. >> reporter: you saw them on the floor? >> somebody cried. >> reporter: but while many rushed to help, police say the driver left the victims, left the car and ran away. this? store. inside. side. >> reporter: police have not identified the victims but say they are expected to be okay. in queens village, diane macedo, cbs 2 news.

being treated at the hospital. they are asking anyone with information on this crash to contact the police. new information on a harlem shooting friday afternoon. police say two men agreed to meet a man who answered their craigslist ad about selling hover boards. the meeting took place on west 138th street. when the buyers showed up and tried to the make off with the boards without paying, the seller fought back. the seller was shot twice and is expected to make a full recovery. one suspect was arrested. the shooter took off. the nypd is searching for three robbers targeting cellphone stores. this is video of the most recent robbery at an at&t store. two men got out, tied up the clerk in the bathroom and then stole about $55,000 in electronics and investigators say they made off with over $60,000 in cash and electronics from two other stores.

countries as they battle isis in sir. >> deborah: we are not putting american combat troops back into syria or iraq. this fight -- >> under no circumstances? >> well, at this point, i cannot conceive of any circumstances. >> reporter: republican candidates are already criticizing clinton. jeb bush sent out a tweet saying, hillary rodham clinton limiting isis attack options shows she will continue to bam ma's containment. and donald trump still leads the gop field. he has been a draw, a draw he is now using as leverage against cnn which hosts the next debate. >> i won't do the debate unless they pay me $5 million, all of which goes to the wounded warriors or to vets. >> reporter: but trump's lead is shrinking in iowa with ted cruz right on his heels. the texas senator says he won't attack trump but mainly because he doesn't the feel he needs to. >> i don't believe donald trump

caught on camera in florida. police dash cam video captured an suv driving in the opposite lanes and then flipping over the median into oncoming traffic and narrowly missed the cruiser on patrol. police cited the driver for careless driving. very close call. new york city givens a new era in nutritional warnings. chain restaurants now have to put a special symbol on the menu next to dishes with high salt content. it takes effect today. >> reporter: open a menu today and you will likely see this, a saltshaker icon on every item with too much salt. >> when you see this warning label, you know that that item has more than the total amount of sodium that you should consume in a single day. >> reporter: restaurant chains with more than 15 outlets nationally are required to have the icon on menu items that contain more than 2300- milligrams of salt, about a teaspoon of salt. surprisingly, that amount of

they say spirit airline, a flight attendant refused to allow them to sit next to the emergency doors. the couple says they paid extra for three seats to accommodate steve who weighs more than 400- pounds the. couple who was celebrating their 20th anniversary say they used the same seats on the way there with no problem. >> it was definitely discrimination. >> i figured that if you at least payed the additional you had to pay, you could fly without embarrassment and have a comfortable flight but that's not the case. >> the couple says they flew out on another airline the next day. spirit airlines says those seats could not be used with an extended belt the passenger needed. cyber monday shoppers spent $3 billion during the online sales holiday. they were up 12% from last year, making it the largest online sales day in u.s. history. this year, many people made purchases from the smart phones. and now cyber monday to giving tuesday.

hudson valley. the area airports. the city right now, we're getting a break. but don't worry, there's more rain where that came from. on again off again showers through the afternoon and into the evening. clouds. hour. and 50, we have been as warm as 50. these numbers though really without exception, it's a yesterday. in fact, parts of the area, close to 10 degrees warmer so we will shoot for 52. easy to do. 48 the normal. that will be the low tonight. and the quick snapshot. what's going on? light rain through westchester, fairfield county and staten island now. and more pushing into jersey city, newark and here in the city in manhattan as well. boy, warren, somerset, ocean county, all of this just fills north. and to the east. and then there's a break and then there's more. so it's a long event. here's what we anticipate for

some breaks and then for parts of the commute, dealing with more coverage for the city and long island. and then overnight tonight the, a break. and tomorrow morning, scattered showers. by tomorrow afternoon, possibility of a pocket of heavy rain. and then this is interesting, it's the front actually pushing through later wednesday. it's cold so we could even see snow for parts of sullivan before we wrap this thing up early on thursday. and then we dry things out thursday into friday. and yeah, i mean, telling you, the deficit we're running is very big, 9.69 inches below so we will make that up. .50 to 1.5 in some of the wednesday night. and then dry and not too bad for december thursday and friday. >> get it out of the way during the work week. >> yeah and enjoy the weekend. >> that's true. there's one vegetable that often shows up on the holiday a fan. favorite.

to talk about a fall and winter favorite, that's brussel sprouts. love them. but i think there are a few key things we can focus on to make everybody love them. let's talk about selection and storage. when you see them in the store, you're probably going to notice,s there a lot of different sizes. why does this mat senator a big one like this, it will have a mild flavor to it. a small one, this is going to be a very intense brussel sprout flavor. and this will resemble a mild cabbage. keep that in in mind. and the smaller -- that in mind. and the smaller ones are better to cook with because of the intense flavor. store them in the refrigerator and you can roast them, or shave it finely and use it in a raw salad. and that's a great way to use it. and you can mix up the usage. and that's really fun to do. and i'm stephanie tantillo with your tip of the day.
