wel veoullhereummoe anlsor yr.lu 40doarba. soo li oca n.t t t pt.etio i'm super excited to see what i'm going to do sunday. >> this means a lot to a lot of different people around here. >> it's a big game for both teams. >> brothers going at it on the field and competing hard. >> definitely makes for an interesting game. >> crowd in new york trying to get to the playoffs. >> that make it's an important game. >> it's not a rivalry. >> the rivalry is hard for me now because i've pretty much been on every team in the nfl. >> welcome to the meadow lands
7:01 pm
joining me in just a few minutes will be jim nance and phil simms. sitting next to me, gary meyers, the author of brady versus manning, which is currently on the new york times best seller's list. i sat down with the jets head coach this week and went one-on- one with prince from the giants. we're not done. the guys from inside the nfl weighed in on the big match up for us as well. gary, thank you for joining us. what this game was announced, they had this on their calendars. what's the latest on the concussion protocol situation? >> that's going to be one of the marquee match ups of the entire nfl season. rivas has yet to practice since
7:02 pm
and it's virtually certain he's not going to play this n this game. >> he can't even go to meetings. >> the nfl is getting very serious, and rightfully so, with the concussion protocol making it difficult for guys to get back on the field. they have to pass a lot of tests -- assuming -- and this has been a problem at some of the games -- >> offensive in washington on sunday. will guard justin and -- >> looks like justin pugh is good to .g he participated fully in practice today. >> let's send it tout to detroit where the lions and packers are getting ready. let's break down the jets and giants game. thanks for joining us. phil, you played in new york
7:03 pm
we know it's huge for the fans. >> when i was playing, it was a big deal. it's not like nowadays where you know the other teams and know them off the field so l you go to golf tournaments together and all that stuff. when we played, it felt like it was very personal. even the preseason games meant a lot to us back then. to control some of those headlines, whatever you say, the players see each other a lot in the off season, so it's a big deal. >> it seems unlikely rivas is going to play. how disappointing do you think it is for the new york fans that this match up won't be happening? >> 11, we see these things unfortunately every week where we don't get that dream match up. but once the game starts, people are going to move past that. it's a very important game that's about to be played.
7:04 pm
the last time the jets beat the giants was on halloween, 1993. jets won 10-6. the jets quarterback to victory by boomer [ indiscernible ] over the phil sims-led giants. how could you let boomer do that? >> boomer has never let me forget it, that's for sure. i don't know how we lost to that team. where did the jets go that year? >> who's thinking of that right now? can the giants' patchwork offensive line match up against the jets' defensive line? >> you know, a couple things real quick. when i look at the new york jets before the season, even during the season where they are right now, i thought they were a sure playoff team the whole time. they haven't played quite the way i thought they would. eli manning gets rid of the
7:05 pm
that's what the offense is built around. it's not a great passing defense. they're big, they're powerful. the answer is i think they can holdup well enough and get rid of the football quick enough for the offensive line to do a good job. >> the packers have lost 4 out of their last 5. everyone's wondering what's wrong with aaron rodgers and company. >> the short answer on that is he's got nobody open. we're going to be able to go back with this guy. there's nobody open. >> it's been rough. i don't care how great you are. if the guys are not open, you can't throw it in there. it's a little bit of everything. just sit there and think about the question. do you think there's really anything wrong with aaron rodgers? of course not. it's gotta be the people around him not giving him the support to let him show off the great talent. the talent didn't just fade
7:06 pm
running the football -- jim said receivers, can they get open? that will be the big question tonight. >> i never make a prediction on the games we do, but i think the last 5 weeks of the regular season, the packers are going to be back more like the team >> thanks. enjoy the game tonight. coming up next, i went one- on-one with prince. he shares his insights on the game with the jets and we'll

7:11 pm
we hadn't gained anything, we hadn't lost anything. >> bowles and his jets march into met life stadium as the visitors. it's an away game for them. i caught up with prince amukamara who is tasked with slowing down the receiving corps. >> reporter: every 4 years you play against each other. is this a true rivalry? because the town is divided between jets and giants fans. >> i wouldn't say it's a true rivalry, but it means more to the fans of new york and new jersey because the houses do get divided. >> reporter: the last time though -- remember that? victor cruz, big touchdown run. >> i remember cruz just having a chip on his shoulder. i remember revis said he's never heard of him and victor took that to heart and he
7:12 pm
>> all the way tying the nfl record, 99-yards from manning to cruz! >> reporter: what's it going to take to get this one and move forward? >> we just gotta come out with a full head of steam and match their intensity. >> reporter: what do you expect the atmosphere to be like? >> there's going to be blue everywhere. there's going to be cheers for both teams any time we make a play. just because there's a lot of jets fans here. it's split right down the middle with a lot of giants fans. >> it's intercepted, amukamara has it. >> bragging rights and possible playoff positioning on the line in this one. coming up next, we have a player from each team joining

7:16 pm
something to them. >> rashad, you're playing behind a beat up offense line. what can you do? >> i just gotta impose will -- and the way we're rotating our backs and everything, we all get to stay fresh. so every time you're in the game, leave nothing to doubt. >> what was practice like for you guys? you had the opportunity to put a stringel hold on the division against washington. what was practice like this week? >> this entire week has been explosive, full-speed. practicing like we always do. making sure we're studying in the nfl room, lifting weights. we're doing everything we always do and excited for this next opportunity to win. >> you see other players at charity events. is having bragging rights that important? >> we can't make the game bigger than what it is.
7:17 pm
playing jet football. not turning over the ball, we gotta get after them. on -- just cover the d. if we do that, we'll be fine. >> ain't that funny that we're both trying to play the same kind of football? so that's why at the end of the day, that's what's beautiful about this game. everybody wants to do and win. it's about going out there mondays and thursdays and doing it. for my team, we're excited. another opportunity to win. but as far as a rivalry, we're leaving that to the fans. we do want to go out there and obviously play football. >> have you seen any more spirit in practice this week leading up to this game? >> honestly, i think we're just trying to get all the horses ready for the race. it means something to our owners because they're the ones

7:19 pm
because they're going to have more points at the end of the game. >> i think our defense is playing at a high level. at the end of the day, we gotta score more points. we gotta play tough d and bring it home. >> as far as the playoff race, both of you guys can help your chances of improving your position as far as the chances go. is that talked about in the locker room? >> everything is the next game to lead to the next game that leads to the next game. if you don't, you're playing the wrong sport. yeah, it's on your mind, but you don't oversee what's in front of you at all. >> how about todd bowles. talk about his leadership. >> bottom line, he's all about business. that's a statement in itself.
7:20 pm
todd is about weeding out the cancer in the locker room. >> thanks. stay tuned because our football expert gary meyers is going to tell you who's going to win the game on sunday. and the guys from the nfl will break down some of the story lines from sunday's showdown when meadowlands showdown rolls on. the new 2016 ram limited.
