i'm diane macedo. >> and i'm andrea grymes. first meteorologist elise finch is here with a look at the first. >> it is a good morning. we've had a couple of really good mornings. now a little cold to start but we warmed up nicely yesterday, we will do it again today. a little scary. 22 for qualm. 24 for hamburg. of course central park the hot spot at 41 degrees. at least we are at the freezing mark for crestgill. your vortex satellite and radar shows why we having this cold morning. no insulating clouds to keep things a little warmer over night. but that will make for some nice, clear, and sunny skies as we head into this afternoon. here's a look at your hour by

should be around 43 degrees. look for a high of 56. that will put us ten degrees where we should be and we have at least one more mild day heading our way. i'll have those details coming up. we begin with breaking news this morning. another home in queens goes up if in flames. police say it is the seventh suspicious fire since october. >> investigators have new details on a person of interest. cbs 2 alana gold is joining us from the scene. >> reporter:s latest fire -- the latest fire was set over night. you can see the frame work is completely charred and all morning police have been guarding this property. they say there is no question the same person is responsible for all of the fires around here and right now they are trying to track down a person of interest. the nypd looking for this person of interest. they say the man on the motorcycle with glasses, a

be linked to a series of arson fires. the most recent blaze at 12:30 this morning on 69th road mere the grand central parkway at a home under construction. neighbors couldn't miss the orange glow, the flames shooting out of the roof. >> my wife saw it first. she said that house is on fire now. and we were just getting ready to go to bed and looked out the window and it was fully ablazed. >> the fire so intense you could see it for miles away. witnesses told them they saw that man on the motorcycle peel away from the scene seconds after the fire started. alarmed. the same home was set on fire a few weeks ago. >> it's hard to believe that with everybody watching, that again. that somebody would be able to fire. >> seven sites in this neighborhood have been set on fire in the last month and a half. someone torched four homes

an empty building and storage facility. >> what is interesting here, there is no for accelerant. >> reporter: police tell us one fire on 67th drive the arsonist left a note with a name on it. >> we talked to this person at great length. he doesn't have anything to do with it. for >> reporter: the serial arsonist pointed authorities in the wrong direction. so neighbors are definitely concerned. they question if this a list will come back. right now place are offering $10,000 for deal leeing to an address.

comes a day after fbi agents raided the home of farook's friends home. the fbi has not yet spoken to him but they did say he is not a suspect. and he checked himself into a mental hospital following wednesday's attack. >> fbi agents are looking into the shooters ties to terrorists groups. sources claim farook had some kind of contact with the radical shabaab group in somalia. >> president obama has been closely following the developments from the situation room. he will address the country tonight at 8:00. marking just his third address from the oval office. he is expected to cover the steps being taken to keep americans safe. cbs 2 will have live coverage of the president's address.

have reignited a debate over gun control. the new york times took a stand yesterday with a rare front page editorial calling for a ban on assault weapons and stricter gun control. that cbs 2 dave carlin shows us it was immediately dismissed by republicans on the campaign trail. >> america's latest mass shooting is reigniting and amplifying gun control. stating it is a moral outrage and national disgrace that civilians can legally purchase weapons designed to kill people efficiency. and certain weapons must be outlawed for civilian >> it's typical crap prosecute new york times. i don't know what gun control laws are going to stop terrorists from attacking us. >> i think it would have been a lot better if there were guns

50,000 homes. >> about 300 customers are still without power after more than 60% of that county went dark. out annals also hit orange county and nearby pike county, peps. an electric substation malfunctioned. governor cuomo says a nuclear reactor had to be shut down. the plant has been plagued by problems over the years including a transformer fire in may. a woman was struck and killed by a train. port authority spokeswoman says the unidentified woman was struck yesterday. service was suspended during the investigation.

little closer for tuesday and wednesday. but then we are back into the 50s as we head toward next weekend. christmas is almost here and many people are heading out to pick up their christmas trees. here are tips to help you choose a tree and keep it looking good. >> reporter: 'tis the season for christmas trees. customers say they know exactly what they are looking for. >> something fresh. >> i always want to make sure the base is nice and straight. >> try to get a full one. >> a nice full tree with most of the branches still there. particularly around the bottom. >> reporter: next up check the needles. >> run your finger over the needle branches themselves it shouldn't come off. if they are raining off, that is a tree you don't want. >> reporter: experts say you might see brown needles at the bottom of the tree or deep inside near the trunk. but if you see brown need les on the outside of the tree,

won't last long indoors. plant food can help a tree look its best far month or longer but adequate water is what really matters. before customers take a tree off his lot they make a fresh cut on bottom of his lot so it can absorb water. >> there are mold on the pine needle. the molds may double and one out of seven of us have mold allergies. >> reporter: he says hosing a tree down and drying it off before bringing it inside will reduce mold spores on the tree. if that is not an option, he says consider keeping the tree for seven days or less. it will let you enjoy the look and smell of a real tree while i voiding irritation -- while avoiding irritation. >> make sure you place your tree away from heat sources and you want to water it often so it will last through christmas day. >> i saw so many people with the trees on their cars. >> mines already up.

giants. good morning. it's 7:30 on this sunday, december 6th i'm andrea grymes. >> elise finch is here with a look at your forecast. >> the forecast looks really good. this has been a stellar weekend i would say for anything you needed to do outdoors. we had mild temperatures. they were mild yesterday. they will be even milder today. let's go ahead and take a look. we do have a couple of snags especially this morning. a dense fog advisory for oleaster and duchess county. fog is an issue there. also it is a slow warmup. take a look at some of the temps. we are talking 22-degrees in sayville. 24 in franklin. and 25 in madison. so it is slow to warmup. but trust me we actually get a significant warmup today. because high pressure is dominating, we will see clear skies which means lots of sunshine.

tomorrow night the seventh annual latke festival take place in chelsey. >> we have a preview of one chef's creative take on the pancake potato. >> we decided to make a classic latke with a twist. >> so where are the potatoes? >> we are going with a casa baa. which is similar to a potato. you put it in a bowl. i add the onion juice. a sprinkle of corn starch. a little bit of salt and pepper. mix all together. take a piece of your formed casa baas and you want to make little patties. once you have your latkes formed, you are ready to start frying. >> the significance of the oil? >> it's really to have the fried oil. >> this was a one day supply of oil which it will up the temple

>> i think highly of eli manning. eli manning is a good quarterback. they've had some issues this year with respect to turnovers in last weeks game. but at the end of the day, he's a good quarterback. and if the pieces and parts around him. the giants suffered a big loss with jeff schwartz the guard being out. and watch for protection issues as well. >> let's talk about tom cough lin. there were a lot of questions. rumors and questions this week. basically if the giants don't make it to the playoffs this season, will he be the coach going forward? what do you think is going on? >> i worked for an owner al davis that was never shy about often made coaching changes when i thought that might not be the correct thing to do. we had pretty heated arguments about that.
