27 for free holt and spring lake. tons of sunshine and we will keep it going tomorrow. i'll have those details coming up in a few minutes. now to a developing story morning. investigators are at the scene of a house fire in queens. it is the second time this home has gone up in flames in weeks. and police say it's the seventh suspicious fire in forest hills since october. >> this morning investigators have new details on a possible suspect. alana gold is joining us from the scene. >> reporter: this was the home that was torched over night. take a look at the damage. it was under construction and you can see all of the frame work is completely charred. question the same person is this neighborhood. they want to know what the

are trying to track down a person of interest. the nypd looking for this person of interest. they say the man on the motorcycle could be linked to a series of arson fires across forest hills queens. the most recent blaze at 12:30 this morning on 69th road near the grand central parkway at a home under construction. neighbors couldn't miss the orange glow the flames shooting out of the roof and thick smoke pouring from the structure. >> it was huge. you could see it was fully engulfed in flames. all you saw was flames. you didn't even see smoke. it was beyond the smoking point. it was all flames. >> reporter: the fire so intense you could see it for miles away. police say witnesses told them they saw that man on the motorcycle peel away from the scene seconds after the fire started. people who live around here are alarmed. the same home was set on fire a few weeks ago. >> i saw flames and first i heard the fire trucks and i saw

i thought oh no, not another one. we are sick of this already. someone is doing this. >> reporter: seven sights in this neighborhood all within walking distance have been set on fire in the last month and a half. someone torched four homes under construction. investigators say all of the crimes are linked. >> what is interesting here is there is no accelerant. it's combustible materials. right now we are going toward with that case. >> reporter: police tell us one fire on 67th drive the arsonist left a note with a name behind. when investigators followed that lead and tracked that person down. >> he doesn't appear to have anything to do with it. >> >> reporter: and here's another live look at the damage after the latest arson fire in forest hills. police have been forwarding this site all morning. they need to find the suspect.

enrollment for 2016 is happening now. a major power outage impacted several new york counties over night. >> crews worked around the 52,000 customers. be in sullivan county, new york more than 60% of that county lost power. outages hit orange county and nearby pike county in pennsylvania. an electric substation malfunctioned. there were also power problems power plant. a nuclear reactor had to be shut down after power lost to several control rods. no radiation was released and crews have been sent in to make

are a number of people in the country that think that is off base. >> there seems to be a huge divide politically on this topic. do you think these incidents should forge a confidence? >> after 9/11 there was a coming together of politicians. in this instance which some are comparing to a 9/11 like development terror in america. there has been no coming together. people immediately have gone to opposite corners. particularly on the question with gun control with liberal saying that, that is an issue that needs to be addressed in the wake of the shooting. conservatives saying this is all about terror and it's misguided to talk about gun control in the wake of what is

this is of course in manhattan. sunny skies. 40-degrees. we have calm winds. so winds not much of an issue. here's what you can expect. definitely cold out the door for pretty much everybody. so you definitely want to bundle up if you are heading out soon. we are expecting lots of sunshine. even in places that are dealing with fog. everyone. we do have above normal temperatures that continue into the week ahead for most of the week. and even warmer potentially as we head into next weekend. so definitely unusual for december weather although i don't expect to hear too many complaints unless you like to ski not really helping there. monday just a little bit cooler at 54. we get closer to normal on tuesday. we get that with clouds but today 56 degrees that a month

that is in effect for parts of ulster and duchess counties in 10:00 a.m.. even people who are not under this dense fog advisory are dealing with patchy areas of fog. that will dispate this morning. we are expecting tons of brilliant sunshine. another thing ha will get better -- that will get better are the temperatures. 25 for monroe. 25 in madison. finally made it above freezing in river head. still we are expecting a very mild day. this is the reason why. high pressure dominating. no cloud cover for us. very few clouds. lots of sunshine today. and the area of high pressure that is dominating is tapping into milder air. so expect a high today of 56 degrees. we should hit that around 3:00 in the afternoon. we get it with tons of sunshine. very little wind so it makes it for a very mild. if we hit this 60-degree temp, that will put us ten degrees above where we should be. i'll have more coming up in a full forecast. >> thank you. now to a developing story we've been following this morning in queens. investigators are at the scene

reunited with his lost military dog tags in brooklyn after a journey of about 800 miles. brian drove all the way from chicago to personally hand them yesterday. he found the dog tags six months ago and used facebook to track gelles down. them. and you just deal with it. it was amazing when he reached out to me. >> he mentioned something about putting it in an envelope. i refused. i couldn't put them in an envelope. they were lost once, i didn't want to chance it again. >> gelles thinks he lost the tags while moving out of a friends house. time is 8:37. flowers can make someone's day especially if they are unexpected and free. see how one group is repurposing beautiful center

a private jet pilot was forced to make a belly landing after the landing gear on his plane failed to open. investigators say the pilot and the other person on board were not hurt. the runway did have to be shut down for nearly an hour as crews worked to move the plane. kim kardashian and kanye west are parents to a baby bay. they announced their sons birth on her website and app yesterday. no word on the baby's name but the couple has said they want to go in a new direction. their top-year-old daughter's name is north. the holiday shopping season is well under way. for many people that means hitting up your favorite stores. the financial advice company smart asset says one of the best cities for holiday shopping is right here in our area. and they say it's elizabeth new jersey. they say it's a hidden gem. it's new jersey's largest urban enterprise zone which means

we've been saying that all morning long. let's take a live look outside. it looks pretty good. we've got some mild already. so manhattan is one of the places the temperature never really dropped super cold. never got below freezing. we've been not too bad. sunny skies. expect. the day. locations where temperatures are in the 20s or 30s but not yet at the freezing mark. still, we will watch all of that warmup very nicely. we are expecting a nice mild afternoon. much like what we had yesterday. but warmer. and things stay quiet by that i mean dry as we head into the 56 degrees that is our forecast high for today. if we hit it, it puts it ten degrees where we should be. certainly not a record. but ten degrees above where we should be. not bad at all for december. vortex satellite and radar really under the control of pressure. this area of high pressure has been dominating our weather all

clear skies, dry conditions, today the position of the high is really tapping into some milder air from the south. so we enjoy that. but high starts to shift a little bit tomorrow. that will lead the way for some cloud cover. but not an issue for us today. today it is a superb sunday. we have the mild temperatures even as we head into sunset and begin hanukkah. tomorrow it's another winter, another mild day. both weather and sports jets and giants at met life stadium. i think. maybe not traditional december football weather. but i don't think we will get 54. lots of sunshine. 56 is the high on the day today. 54 at sunset though.

>> tell me more. >> exactly. it's really nice. we brown them in a little bit of olive oil and finish them in the oven. that way they are not fried. >> they are delicious. >> next one we have is these are shaved brussel sprouts. i think people get intimidated by a platter of brussel sprouts. we shave them thinly. and sauteed them in a little olive oil with a cauliflower and mushrooms. >> when i see the shaved ones, i'm not sure what to do with them. is there another benefit other than just it's another way to serve them? >> it's another way to serve

they cook really quickly and they don't take on that quite so it's really, really nice. >> and you say these are sweet and sour string beans? >> sweet and sour string beans instead of the classic cream. so what we have done is we blanched them in boiling water so they were tender. and again just very quickly sauteed them with red onion. and used a georgia say and >> that is great. nice. dish. because you end -- they end up with the mashed potatoes. this is a tangy flavor. it keeps your appetite balanced. >> and they are nice quick one too. >> this is my favorite the dessert portion. dessert. before.

so it's really nice. these are actually olive oil cookies that we made with whole wheat flour, olive oil as the fat and sesame seed. they are a little savory. you can have a little chocolate sauce on your ice cream. >> okay. >> and a nice little balance. >> so put the chocolate sauce on the cookie. okay. the cookies are a little on the savory side which is nice. >> okay. delish. >> it's like short bread cookies. >> we need to get to the pecan pie. >> pecan pie is vegan. the filling is rice syrup, maple syrup, a little bit of air root which is is similar to corn starch. >> all right. we will sample the pecan pie in a second. >> we have to see what is
