manage to get the officer's wallet, that suspect is now dead. police say it started as a craigslist ad. the officer came to 145th avenue around 10:30 last night to check out a used white bmw lied on the site but the sellers had other plans. >> i was playing in bed watching and i heard a tote of five to six gunshot, loud gun -- heard a total of five to six gunshots, loud gunshots. >> reporter: he says he had just gotten home, one bullet hit his parked white van. >> i was walking over to see what was going on. the guy, the off-duty police tell me to step back because he has a gun. >> reporter: did you know it was a police officer? who you were talking to? >> no, when he was on the phone, he was, well, he was talking to the dispatcher and telling her that he was a police officer. >> reporter: the bullets hit at least one suspect, a 39-year-

and the other suspect took off in a white bmw. residents say the whole thing has them on edge. they say the second suspect is on the months they haven't found him yet. >> oh, -- is on the loose. they haven't found him yet. >> oh, no. oh, no. that's scary. >> reporter: back at the scene, detectives are taking scans of the crime scene. and you can see the officer's suv in the middle of the street. the officer was injured and taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay. it's not clear if the second suspect was also hit in the shooting. police are still searching for him. diane macedo, cbs 2 news. turning now to campaign 2016. condemnation won't stop donald trump. he is not only standing his his call to block muslims from entering the country, he says he is the fdr of the 21st acceptability ring leader. marcia kramer joins us with more. >> reporter: donald trump is

been testing the boundaries between legitimate fears and religious discrimination. trump's rivals say he has finally crossed the line. >> thank you. now to the mass shooting in san bernardino that killed 14 people last week. one victim is now being called a hero for saving a coworker. 45-year-old shannon johnson shielded a colleague during the attack. she survived but johnson was killed. >> the text i sent was hey, mass shoot, i hope you're okay. and no response. >> reporter: and then what did it elevate to? >> why the f isn't anybodiensing me in all caps. >> reporter: you call the hospitals and you say, do you have someone by the name of shannon and they tell you? >> they can't just give out names of people. she said all of the families have been notified of the injured people. i don't want to be notified. >> reporter: you didn't want confirmation. >> i didn't.

12 hours before mandy received confirmation of johnson's death. what was that grief liking for in the moment when they said, he's gone. >> it was unbearable. and i stopped it. and i have a wall up right now. but it's -- it's like a dam. >> reporter: it sounds like shannon and being a victim was also a hero in that he put his arms around a coworker and shielded her. he died and she survived. >> he would have gone down. he would not have left her to go after anybody. for sure. yeah. not a surprise. >> reporter: in a statement, a survivor says shannon johnson was an amazing, selfless man who told her, quote, i got you as they huddled under the table and his arm around her. she told us she wanted to see the crime scene. >> i have been on the other side of the police tape. i have been able to walk under the police tape and just go.

>> reporter: you're used to helping other people deal with their grief? >> yeah, right. >> reporter: that grief led her to a memorial right around the corner from the crime scene. >> i could have been any one of us in our family. >> yes, ma'am. yep. >> anyone. you never know. >> yes. >> you never really know. >> federal authorities continue to search the digital trail of syed rizwan farook and tashfeen malik. in paris, an emotional massacre. silent and somber members of the rock band eagles of death metal returned to the bataclan theater this morning. it's become a memorial to the 89 people killed there last month when terrorists attacked the venue. band members say they huddled inside the dressing rooms. >> they were robbed of their stage three weeks ago and we would like to offer them ours tonight. would you welcome the eagles of

>> last night, u2 shared their stage with the band in the french capitol. it was the first on-stage appearance since the attacks. a queens neighborhood is on edge as police are looking for the person wanted in a series of arsons. we are live at noon from forest hills where a community meeting just brand up. >> reporter: chris and mary, the meeting here at the jewish community center lasted about an hour and a half and ended just a moments ago. and residents are frustrated and nervous as police continue to search for an arsonist they believe has set numerous fires. and these fires have folks on edge. >> i lay in my bed at night and hear those fire engines going past my house. and i say, oh, no. not another one. >> reporter: politician, police officials and community leaders

work together to apprehend a serial arsonist that police say has torch thed seven homes in forest hills queens in the last six weeks. >> it's in their backyard. and although it could be different instances, it's a question of fear. right now, people are very concerned about what is next. >> reporter: police have stepped up patrols in the area. they have also been looking at this video which shows a young boy, a potential suspect walking by one of the fires. >> have to catch the person that's creating the fires. , you know, i know the police are there, they're doing surveillance. whatever it is that person leaves. >> reporter: knower heard from some politicians and community leaders and also many police officials were at this meeting as well. we will have a full updating for at 5:00 on cbs 2 news and we will speak with members of the community to see what type of toll this is taking on them as well.

to what we're used to. let's go play golf. can you believe it? it's nice enough for golf out there. they're out in my neighborhood. you got to check with the course because sometimes they're upset about what's going on on the green but, yeah, it's very mild. now today the coolest of the week, nice day for a stroll in the park. and you know, there's actually some sun, a little bit more sun in the city. mostly sunny now. that's the observation. and we're up to 47. so we tweaked the forecast a bit, taking it up a degree or two. and looking at 36 to 48 to spread around the area. and numbers, yeah, a little cooler than we were yesterday. and 48 for your high this afternoon. 45 is the normal. so again, b we're going to be above normal. and it has been mild. just in honor of the ladies of the talk. 10 of the last 12 days have been above normal. and just so you get a sense of comparison, this is how short i am. >> my head is out of the frame.

>> reporter: we are in yonkers just over the city line in the area. details are still coming in. we know this was some sort of police chase that ended in a crash at this location. we can see one vehicle pinned in between two police vehicles. and now there are numerous police officers on the scene. we understand there has been a search ongoing, possibly for a suspect. we are also receiving reports that they may have at least one suspect in custody as well. and nypd helicopters have been searching the area. and we have seen officers going into the wooded areas as well. possibly looking for a suspect that might still be on the loose. again, we are still getting information on this. how this started and where it began. it may have been in bronx at one point. as we get more information, we will pass that along. cbs 2 news. >> thank you. yeah, a big situation there continues to unfold.
