scarves at home today. we have record warm weather but how long will it last. cbs 2 news continues right now. good morning. coming up on 8:00 a.m. on sunday december 13 i'm diane. >> and i'm andrea grymes. one of our top stories is the weather so first up vanessa murdock has a look at the forecast you would never guess it is the middle of december today. >> thank god nobody is asking us what month it is because we are way off more than 20 degrees off where we should be. today more records will be broken. we won't see a ton of sun but you'll see some and a great end to the weekend. if you are longing for colder weather it's in the extended forecast not in the near future. it's 59 in the city, 46 in chatham and 53 as well.

have the lingering fog the case for the duration of your day. this morning plenty of clouds of green. passing drizzle also a possibility today but ultimately i think it's lovely. 12: 00 at 63 degrees by 3 this afternoon the high at 65. if we happens which we say it will we have set a new record at central park. the current record at 64 and i don't think central park will be the only spot breaking records today. iceland has broken records for a couple of days straight now. we talk more about when things cool down get back to normal in my full forecast. back to you. >> thank you. the weather is our top story as we could set a record high for the day. >> while some are wishing for wintery wet weather instead many people will be enjoying the out doors. you look very comfortable out there today. >> diane, very comfortable. i have nothing to complain

it is going to be a busy day here at bryant park. people are already out here taking advantage of this beautiful weather. this morning we've been talking to visitors from out of state and they tell us this is not the weather they were expecting in december and some even say it's too warm. 60-degree temperatures hitting new york city for the fourth day in a row and today a record of 65 could be set. how does it feel out here? >> it's absolutely amazing. it's such a gift this time of year to be able to walk around outside with no coat on. >> unseasonably warm december weather bringing crowds to the parks the conditions motivating many to get out and exercise. >> this is a treat. it's wonderful to see christmas lights and bike at the same time. >> and venture to places they normally wouldn't go this time of year. >> i'm going to the beach tomorrow actually. >> what are you going to do there? >> take a long walk at reese park up towards breezy point because i know it's going to be ninnies. >> and no chill in the air

it's so nice it's difficult to imagine snow right now. this is the first time in 14 years that temperatures have been above 60 degrees for four days in a row. we are live at bryant park this morning cbs 2 news. >> hopefully that man doesn't have screaming children because they are too hot today. thank you so much. new this morning an overnight fire at a postal facility in chelsea left six postal vehicles damaged. the fire broke out around 10:30 at the facility on 11th avenue. dozens of firefighters responded. they got it under control around midnight. the trucks were on the third floor of a parking garage. no reported injuries. unclear if any mail was damaged or exactly what started the fire. also new an investigation under way in brooklyn after a man was shot and killed overnight on lexing ton avenue. police say the 27-year-old man was shot several times but it's unknown what led to that incident or who shot him. the man has not been identified

hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. police are investigating a shooting at a walmart store in pennsylvania. someone entered the store with an assault rifle and several hand guns. there were reports the person shot was the gunman. it's not clear who shot him. back here at home a 29-year- old man is fighting for his life at a hospital after he was hit by a car on the upper east side. the impact sent the victim into a tree. the victim had been riding a scooter at the time just after 3:00 a.m. on fifth avenue and east 85th street. a second person was hurt in the accident but is expected to be okay. >> police are investigating after a new jersey mall was evacuated due to a bomb scare on a busy holiday shopping day. shoppers were forced to leave the riverside square mall after a bomb threat was found on a note in a bathroom just after 1:00 while employees and

bomb squad swept the building. >> we just pulled in and police all over the place and they told everybody to get out. the mall was closed. >> it's awful. you can't even go shopping for christmas without being concerned that something awful might happen. >> police gave the all clear after about three hours. >> police have released surveillance pictures after they continue to investigate an attempted kidnapping at a kohls store on long island. the woman seen here tried to abduct a one-year-old at the store on valley stream. the incident happened in a first floor bathroom on thursday. the suspect began by saying the baby was beautiful then said "give me the baby" while grabbing the child ass's arm. the--child's arm. the suspect left the store in a cab. the ride sharing company uber is asking drivers for the

agreement two days after a california class action lawsuit against the company. the agreement will only go for drivers who started after the initial clause. crews are working to get a section of first avenue open in time for tomorrow morning's morning rush. first avenue between 60th and 64th streets has been closed since a large section of the high rise came crashing to the ground on monday night. the department of buildings has been removing unsafe bricks one by one by hand to prevent them from falling without jen dieing itself. >> a big project there. time now 8:07. dozens of world leaders reach a climate change deal. ahead what they agreed on and why protestors are against it. plus getting the perfect picture isn't always a snap.

a georgia school is apologized after a teacher asked a muslim student if she had a bomb in her backpack. the school's principal later offered an apology. other parents were disturbed to hear about the comment. >> it's prejudice. >> i don't think they should have asked her that because of her religion. i don't think that was fair. >> they say they spoke with the teacher and determined there was no ill will. a spokesperson says the comment came as a teacher was urging students to put away their backpacks. they are working with the teacher on the issue. president obama is hailing the climate agreement reached in paris yesterday as the best chance to save the planet. nearly 200 countries agreed to fight global warming by limiting greenhouse gas emissions. they pledged to switch to clean and renewable energy sources like solar power.

sticking around. it will get breezy tomorrow as that front gets closer us so expect some winds. as you make your way into tuesday it's breezy sunshine 59 and clearing. then for wednesday beautiful bright blue skies and 55. clouds. wet weather moving on in. it likely lingers into early friday and if the moisture can stay around long enough for the cold air to begin diving in some of us may see a little bit of snow it's trending dryer for friday. it's looking less likely that's going to happen and i have to admit i'm disappointed because i think it's time to see a little bit of snow and next saturday at 44 degrees where we should be. >> amazing record breaking warmth and possibly snow in the same week. >> we'll keep you posted. >> i'm not explaining but we all know that. --explaining--complaining but

while employees and customers waited outside the bergen county bomb squad swept the building and gave the all clear after three hours. police released the surveillance video of the woman seen? these images may have tried to abduct a one-year-old girl. the baby's mother tells police the incident happened in a first floor bathroom on thursday. the suspect started by saying the baby was beautiful but then said give me the baby while grabbing the child's arm. the suspect left the store in a black liberty cab. an investigation under way in brooklyn after a man was shot and killed overnight just after midnight on lexington avenue in bedsty. a 27-year-old man was shot several times though it's unknown what led to the incident or who shot him. the man who has not been identified yet was taken to wood hole hospital where he died. postal officials are assessing the damage after a fire that left six vehicles damaged.

camera at the top of the empire state building. vanessa murdock will have the warm forecast in a few minutes. texas dealing with major issues this morning. the sheriff's in this case says a tornado touched down in willis. a local fabrication company along with a restaurant and several trailer homes were damaged. police say no one was hurt. time now for your exclusive cbs 2 forecast. wild weather. maybe a little drizzle. >> maybe passing drizzle but most of us stay dry today. what's notable is the record breaking warmth to continue to impact the region today. weekend. we talk about crashing numbers by the end of this coming week forecast. but right now let's reflect upon the what's happening right now share some photos with our weather watchers because they are beautiful.

bit cloudy is stunning, absolutely beautiful this morning and very mild. most of us enjoying temperatures in the 50s but another cloudy sky shot from anthony looking are the great and one more from adam heater, loving these pictures. a little sun, more clouds and shedding the coats yet again. we'll see more shorts and tank tops out there. 65 degrees the forecast at high of central park today. live outside looking good. mostly cloudy and 59. calm winds at this point in time. as we go through the day and beyond here's what to expect your headlines more records likely. yesterday we broke four records set four new ones and today expect a similar number. temperatures most of us warming into the low to mid 60s. clouds will dominate. some sun but more clouds and passing drizzle. then tomorrow temperatures remain in the 60s but we have a better chance for rain tomorrow especially late in the day as

once we get into the darkness. as we look at the temperature trend it's been 15 to 20 plus degrees above normal. friday 61, yesterday 66. still not a record. yesterday the record in central park was 68. today the record stands at 64 so we are going to break that record with a high of 65. tomorrow 62 and numbers continue to drop off towards next weekend. the normal high is 44 degrees so where is the snow? there's the slightest chance a few of us might see snow early friday morning. it's looking less likely as we get closer to that day. normally today we've had an inch and a half and haven't had a trace yet in central park. we are counting down to winter eight days until we officially enter the season and eight days away is looking for seasonable than today and the next several days are looking. plenty of clouds a few specks

that's it not expecting heavy stuff for today. the instability is associated with the stationary front sitting nearby so we've got more clouds a little bit of a chance for wet weather but ultimately it's going to be a december delight with highs in the 60s for us. as we go into the day tomorrow things are changing. low pressure system finally makes it's approach with the associated cold front. chance for showers early as the cold front gets closer to us later in the day a much better shot in the day for rain and heavy pocket a's for some of us getting a half an inch of rain out of this. dryer cooler air is moving in. it will be sunny and breezy by tuesday afternoon. tomorrow will also be very breezy as the front gets closer to us. today mainly cloudy with record warmth 65 degrees winds on the calm side today. this evening for the last night of hanukah very mild at 4: 29 sunset at 61 degrees with

it's a traditional graduate malla food for the holidays. we put pork, olives, red peppers and green peppers. make them sweet. it's a fun eye catching dish and very family style. when i used to do this with my parents they'd get all of us in the line and do a food processing thing. >> they seem intimidating. >> an hour and a half you are done. it always seems intimidating but once you get it it's easy. >> these tacos are delicious. >> there's beans in here. >> absolutely. >> this is actually we serve this at our restaurant. it's actually deep fried plantain with black bean puree and a drizzle on the bottom. it's delicious and typical in graduate malla. >> you hear beans you think it's sweet. >> the cinnamon and sugar
