the 20s but the winds will be subsiding through the day. so this afternoon a high of 44 will feel more like 44. yesterday a high of 40 felt more like 30. so big changes today and then a huge warmup as we get into the workweek. right now it's 36 in the city. 32 for wayne. lakewood. most of us in the low to mid 30s. the windchills are in the 20s for us with an exception of wayne. they are feeling like 32 this morning. over all it's a very brisk beginning to your sunday but it will be a beautiful end. mostly sunny skies is what we expect today. skies are clearing at present. we have 9:00 a.m., 37. we will feel like 32 by noon. 40 will feel like 36 under mostly sunny skies and through this afternoon 44 our high will feel like 40. still tons of sunshine. winds at that point will be at 5-10 miles an hour. we may see gusts up to 15-20 today.

-- coming up in my forecast we will talk about record warmth for christmas eve. search is under way for a store owner. >> police say the man was shot and killed inside his own shop. alana gold is joining us. >> reporter: this is at top plus mens clothing store. neighborhood. police say they were called here at 4:30 yesterday afternoon. that is where they found the store owner dead in his shop. a robber showed one a weapon just minutes earlier and pulled out a gun and shot this man at least one time in the head. police were out here all night investigating and trying to track down a suspect. >> i didn't know something like

warmest december we are just completely blowing the old records out of the water. average temperature is 51 degrees. we're in first place. seven degrees above 2001. the average then was 44.1 degrees. just unbelievable warmth this december and the trend will continue this number will likely climb even a little bit more as temperatures warm this week. on the vortex satellite and radar picture woe have a few clouds but jury roomily clearing skies. we will see mostly sunny skies today thanks to high pressure. it's dominating the forecast. big old area of high pressure today. tomorrow things start to change. we get into that more unsettled pattern. here's the deal for today. seasonal chill in the air as high pressure rolls. and then tomorrow warming up winds will be out of the southwest. winter officially arrives tomorrow evening at 11:48. what will happen tomorrow we will see increasing clouds, slight chance of a shower well

so in the fall we start to see a lot of fall squashes coming in and these are absolute favorites president in the wintertime they have exceptional winter squashes too. the bocha squash you want to look at this rain right here. it should be a beautiful dark green. the best thing to remember is the rain is very, very thick and heavy for its size. now when you bring squash home, store it in a cool, dry place. and squash can last for awhile but remember you are never totally sure how long it has been in storage. i want to give it a 1-2 week maximum in a cool dry place. when it comes to using squash,

>> and an employee gets tricked by a couple who made off with more than $1,000 in jewelry from a midtown jewelry store. cbs 2 news sunday morning continues right now. good morning. it's coming up on 7:30 on this sunday, december 20th i'm andrea grymes. >> and i'm diane macedo. first we need to get to vanessa murdock at a look at a pretty eventful forecast. >> yeah we have a lot going on. but for today seasonably chilly where we should be in the low and mid 40s and winds will be subsiding so not as brutally chilly as it was yesterday. as we look at current temperatures. 36 in the city. 34 in cost cob. as we look at the wind speeds much settled compared to yesterday. yesterday winds were gusting up to 30 miles an hour.

investigators were out here all night trying to get answers and track down a possible suspect. we want to show you video from the scene after this crime happened. it was at 4:30 yesterday afternoon. the clothing store in question is called top plus. it's in the journal square neighborhood. here's what we know. police tell us a robber showed up with a weapon, that person shot the store owner at least one time in the head and when police showed up they found him dead inside this business. right now there are so many questions about what happened in here. police aren't releasing many details and we don't know if any customers were in this mens clothing store when the armed robber opened fire and took off. the neighbors are alarmed and say they are definitely concerned for their safety. >> it's not safe anymore over here.

never heard the crime. >> reporter: so again police are investigating after a clothing store owner was shot dead during an apparent armed robbery. police say no one else was injured inside the store during the crime. at this point they are not releasing the victims name. right now police say if you have any information on this crime they want you to come forward. live in jersey city this morning ilana gold cbs 2 news. detectives searched his car and say they found 13 pounds of raw heroin valued at $500,000. also in the bronx people confiscated 136 pounds of cocaine worth $3 million after arresting two men on thursday. one suspect was arrested in the aler ton section, the other in kings bridge.

part of a massachusetts drug trafficking ring. and police nabbed the man who tried to rob a gas station. investigators say 26-year-old christopher dam of hide park pinned the gun at that owner. dam is being held without bail. he is due in court on wednesday. former conductor of the harmonic kurt mazur has died. last night the phil her monic

a teen is being remembered as a hero after he sacrificed others. he was sitting on a porch thursday night when a group of men opened fire. he used his own body to protect three girls from a spray of bullets. wouldn't be here. >> i was shaking him. i'm like i love you i need you wake up. >> we are concealing the victims identities. at a vigil his classmates honored him saying he always put others before himself.

declaring his innocence. he says i am confidently prevail. he also made headlines earlier this year after raising the price of an aids drug over night from $13 to $750. new this morning police are searching for two people accused of stealing more than half a dozen of pieces of jewelry on madison avenue. nypd released this surveillance video of a suspect. around 3:00 yesterday afternoon store. the man removed eight pieces of jewelry from a display while a woman blocked the worker from seeing what was happening. the new jersey housewife and her husband pleaded guilty last year to bankruptcy fraud and conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud. she was sentenced to 15 months in prison. she is getting out two months early for good behavior. the latest star wars movie

felt like a frustrated jets fan. the jets had me up late. later than i needed to be. the cowboys play inspired football and they play like the team looking to make a play off run and you know as far as the jets are concerned, i think they thought maybe they would roll. >> they have four interceptions. that is amazing. and getting within field goal range right at the end when the cowboys tied it up. >> that was the unfortunate thing for the dallas cowboys were all of the interceptions were ill advised throws by both quarterbacks. you know the one kelly moore showed his inexperience in the red zone. throwing an interception. fortunately for the jets fan, the cowboys quarterback was very average. or below average. >> cowboy fans have not had a good year with all of the quarterback issues.

basically the jets have to win the next few games. it's a must win. there are other things out of their control. what do you think? do you think they peak it? >> you know, they have a tough game next week against the patriots at home. they should have beat the patriots the first time around. maybe they are able to pull that one out. and then they end up the season in buffalo against rex ryan buffalo bills. it will be tough for the jets to make it in. even if they win out, the pittsburgh steelers if they win out, they still have the advantage. and then the kansas city chiefs who also could all finish with an 11-5 record i feel the chiefs will win out. it will be tough. >> a few different scenarios. >> let's switch gears and talk about the giants. they take on the undefeated panthers later today. what do you think here? >> i live in carolina.

i have never seen a more disrespected undefeated team. >> he is not tom brady. >> you know as you look at it, all the talk coming into this game is are the giants going to be the ones that upset the panthers? the giants are 6-7. they are not a good football team. the struggles they have defensively stopping the pass and the run. they don't run the ball with any type of consistency. and then eli manning and the turn overs that he commits. i just think this carolina panthers team is too strong and they will be motivated based on all the chatter that is taking place leading up to this football game. >> it was interesting prince said cam newton is like tom brady because he makes it work with what he has on the field. >> at some point in time you have to say all right guest get have talent. every time i turn around they are scoring 30 plus points.
