into a deadly robbery in jersey city. a business owner was gunned down in the middle of a day. this morning the search is on for his killer. >> round three from the democratic presidential candidates. we got apology, talks on terror and attacks on the donald. >> and another cold day on tap and a warmup is under way just in time for christmas. cbs 2 news continues right now. good morning. 8:00 a.m. on this sunday, december 20th i'm diane macedo. >> and i'm andrea grymes. first let's get to meteorologist vanessa murdock. she has a look at the forecast. these temperatures have been going up and down. >> yeah for today they are down and then we just go up and up in we reach record warmth on christmas eve. so enjoy the cold while it lasts.

feeling more like the 20s. let's take it to the numbers. 35 in central park. 32 in newton. 32 in bedford. 27 is the windchill in chatham. 20 in liberty and spring like your windchill is 24. we do have a few clouds. mainly north and west of the city. but beautiful blue skies as well for so many this morning. it's going to be a mostly sunny end to your weekend. 37 at 9:00 a.m.. we will feel more like 32. by noon 40 will feel like 36. and then high today is 44 degrees. with a little bit of breeze it will feel like 40. i want to say the winds are substantially calmer. generally they will be out of the southwest at 5-10 miles an hour. but the windchill not nearly as significant today as it was yesterday. as i mentioned, it's the last of the seasonably chilly air today. temperatures will climb and quite dramatically. ly tell you how high they go coming up in my full forecast.

developing story out of jersey city where a search is under way for a gunman after the murder of a store owner. >> police say the man was shot and killed inside his own shop in the middle of the day. lilian that gold -- ilana gold is joining us with the details. >> reporter: take a look at video from the scene. this is at top plus men's clothing store. police say they were called here at 4:30 yesterday afternoon. that is when they found the store owner dead in his shop. they tell us a robber showed up with a weapon just minutes earlier and pulled out a gun and shot this man at least one time in the head. police were out here all night investigating. the neighbors say they are in absolute shock and worry about their safety. >> it's crazy. i didn't know something like that happened. i was just walking through the store.

>> reporter: so a lot of questions this morning about this deadly shooting and police are urging the public to come forward with information. at this point it's unclear if any customers were inside the store during the crime but police tell us no one else was hurt. right now police are not releasing the victims name. live in jersey city this morning ilana gold cbs 2 news. now to a developing story. six passengers are being questioned after a suspected bomb was found on an air france flight. the flight was forced to make an emergency landing in kenya early this morning after someone found the strange device in a laboratory. all 463 passengers were safely evacuated. device. new jersey residents are on edge after a string of break ins just days before christmas. saddlebrook police reported four different robberies on saturday.

time to check in with cbs 2 meteorologist vanessa murdock. i came off the plane last nigh and realized it's december now and starts to feel like it in new york. but you are saying that is short lived. >> very short lived. a total of two days with temperatures close to normal and now we are going to crank up the heat again and we will be nearing 70 degrees come christmas eve. so let's enjoy the chill while it lasts. take you live outside right now. beautiful picture of the empire state building and one world trade. it's mostly clear, 35. we have north, northwest winds at 10 miles an hour. today we will be topping out at 44. winds will be settling. here's what we look toward as we start your monday and beyond. temperatures will climb back to well above normal. here's the reason why. see the jet stream it will arrive well to our north. we will be able to feel the warmth from the south. we will not be cut off from

and then as we make our way into midweek it becomes unsettled. we are talking about rain chances tuesday, wednesday, thursday as well. it does look to be drying out for christmas day. record warmth likely on christmas eve. we are talking about temperatures for most of us in the upper 60s. i wouldn't be surprised if we have a couple 70s on the board. here's the deal, the record right thousand for christmas eve stands at 63 degrees. that was set back in 1996. the forecast 68 degrees in central park. so that is what we have moving ahead out there right now. head. it looks like there are clouds and there are to the north and west of the city. but generally lots of blue sky today. mostly sunny thanks to high pressure dominating the forecast. winds will be out of the west, northwest for a little while. as the high migrates to the east they will become more south westerly and that is when temperatures will climb and that happens over night into the day tomorrow. hour by hour here's what you can expect. lots of sunshine for today.

sunday, december 20th i'm andrea grymes. >> and i'm diane macedo. first meteorologist vanessa murdock is here with a look at the forecast. and looking later in the week it doesn't feel like december or christmas time. >> not at all. we will be near 70 by christmas eve but today completely different story it will be in the 40s. low 40s the norm right now. today's high 44 under mostly sunny skies. you can see that sunshine just powering down across the city skyline. today we will see lots of it. but it will not be warm it will be seasonably chilly. 35 in the city right now. 30 in madison. 34 in bridgefield. however the winds are still blowing at a good clip here and there so the windchill is 24 right now. eaton town it feels like 24. monroe feels like 19 and in great neck the windchill is 28. on the vortex satellite and radar pictures and clouds still lingering to the north and west

today will be a mostly sunny day. noon 40 will feel like 36 by 3:00 this afternoon. 44 will feel like 40. winds will generally be out of the west, northwest at 5-10 miles an hour. gusts 15-20 today. i'll have your full forecast coming up and we'll talk about that record breaking warmth back to you. >> thank you. now to a developing story out of jersey is city. a store owner has been shot and killed inside his own business. >> and the person responsible is still on the loose. >> ilana gold is live with the details. >> reporter: the shooting was at this clothing store on burgon avenue. investigators were out here searching for answer and trying to track down a suspect. we want to show you video from the scene after this crime happened. it was at 4:30 yesterday afternoon. the clothing store in question is called top plus. it's in the journal square neighborhood. here's what we know. police tell us a robber showed up with a weapon.

owner at least one time in the head. when police showed up they found him dead inside this business. right now there are so many questions about what happened in here. police are not releasing many details and we don't know if many customers were inside this men's clothing store when the armed robber opened fire and took off. the neighbors are alarmed and definitely concerned for their safety. >> i live right here. >> so again police are investigating after a clothing store owner was shot dead during an apparent robbery. police say no one else was injured inside the store during the the crime and at this point they are not releasing the victims name. right now they are asking anyone with any information on

live in jersey city this morning ilana gold cbs 2 news. police are searching for two people suspected of stealing half a dozen pieces of jewelry on madison avenue. the nypd just released these surveillance videos of the suspects. around 3:00 they entered the lynx of london store. police say they the men removed eight pieces of jewelry while the woman blocked a work fresh seeing what was happening. in the bronx police confiscated 136 pounds of cocaine worth $3 million after arresting two men on thursday. one suspect was arrested in the aler ton section. the other in kingsburg section. they believe both men are part of a massachusetts drug trafficking ring.

mazur was ats helm of the phil philharmonic for years. he was 88 years old. an environmental watchdog group plans to sue the new york state throughway authority. the group river keeper says construction of the bridge has led to an increase in the deaths. the throughway authority released a statement saying quote there is no credible scientific evidence that the project activities have negatively impacted the sturgeon populations since construction began. the team has taken unprecedented measures. he was known for his moves on the field but a high school

save three others. knoxville police say 15-year- old zaevion dobson was sitting opened fire. he used his body to save three girls. >> i picked him up and set him on my arms. i was shaking him. i was shaking him. i was like i love you. i need you. wake up. >> this weekend at a candle light vigil his classmates honored him and said he always put others before himself. former ceo is declaring his thence. he is accused of stealing $11 million from the company he ran to cover losses for investors in his hedge fund. yesterday he tweeted quote i'm confident i will prevail. the accusations against me are baseless and without merit. he also made headlines after raising the price of an aids drug over night from $13 to $750.

shattered an opening day record but also shattered the hearts of some fans in southern california. >> no. >> movie gores at a late night 3d screening in hollywood nearly lost it when the times. what made matters worse instead of picking back up where the movie left off, the film actually jumped toward the end of the movie. >> there was popcorn flying everywhere. arms up. >> i even saw people run straight out of the theater on the floor screaming no. they just didn't want to see it at all. >> i could only imagine. it's not clear what caused the projector failure but movie goers got their money back. i'm not sure it will make up for this traumatic experience they have been through. but maybe it will help. >> could you imagine the scrambling going on like with the employees at the movie theater they must have been going crazy to get it fixed.

>> it's all totally original score absolutely. and really terrific. really beautiful old time broadway music. >> what is it like for you to be in this? you're a new yorker yourself. what is it like for you to be in this production? >> well it's first of all any time you do a christmas show it's really wonderful. i've done a couple different ones. it really puts you in the christmas spirit. and to do it at home is great also. i've never been at the theater at had son square garden. i've never performed there. it's really terrific. >> what do you hope that people because it's a show for the whole family. what do you hope they get out of it? >> i think they will laugh and they will get a good feeling and they will be really set up for christmas. it just brings a wonderful christmas spirit to everybody that is there. it's a sweet family show. >> and it's only here for a short amount of time. you guys just started; right? >> we did.

the easiest gift. perfect for santa. >> this looks like really pretty bark. >> yes. everyone nows peppermint bark. we're going to be making two types of bark today. i have white chocolate that i melted over a double boiler. this is to make sure it doesn't scorch. i will spread it out here. and kya will spread it. this is basically a yoga mat for your candy. [ laughter ] and it's not going to stick. and it's going to set at high school temperature and you can break it up into pieces of bark. >> i might be more inclined to do yoga if it was covered in white chocolate. >> me too. we have pistachios, cranberries, dry ginger. i like to use crushed cookies if i have left over cookies for whatever reason. crush them up, sprinkle them on top of the bark. >> and a good use for the leftover desserts after christmas is done; right?

>> it goes through new years. the diet starts new years. sprinkle those on there. beautiful job. i love that. i just love using anything i have in my pantry. i have used granola. >> truffles are the easiest dessert you could make. >> really? >> so easy. we have hot cream and i'm going to pour it over some good quality dark chocolate. and this is going to melt. it will take a few minutes. we will give it a stir. and after a few minutes it will become very thick, very liquidy and it will be hard enough to roll into balls. i have done that here. tease are just some hardballs. i've rolled with a little cocoa pouder. kendall will roll these and garnishing them with a little bit of peppermint sticks. you can add any flavoring you want here. >> do we just dip these?
