the wet start to this sunday. >> yeah a wet start. a fog advisory in effect until 10:00 a.m. record warmth anticipated this afternoon. some breaks of sun but wet weather in the mix. 40s and low 50s right now heading for the low and mid 60s later on. wet weather definitely dropped overnight. much of it is to our north now. as we go through the day some showers possible but the brunt of the wet weather arrives late this afternoon through this evening. dense fog advisory isn't in effect until 10:00 a.m. visibility is reduced this morning. as we go past that 10:00 a.m. hour we start to clear up. by noon 62 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. feeling like 62 at 3 this afternoon. 65 degrees means we set a new record. mainly dry with breaks of sun but by 6 wet weather back in action. 65 degrees at 6 tonight.

going from record warmth to a wintery mess monday night into tuesday. andrea and diane back to you. police in new jersey are searching for a gunman who shot a toddler in the face. >> the bullet struck him while he sat a few feet away from his father. ilana has more on his condition. >> andrea, the boy had surgery overnight because a bullet was lodged in his cheek. his family has been here at the time. a few relatives came and spoke with us. they tell us he's going to be they are outraged. this is a photo of the one and a half-year-old with a swollen lip and cheek. his uncle took it right before from his face. >> somebody came with the gun

running. >> he had been sitting in the car at the corner of harrison avenue when a gunman opened fire yesterday afternoon. a bullet shattered the back wind shield and one of them hit the toddler. >> imagine someone shooting a gun and 12 shots at a time. >> the five-year-old sister seen with him was in the back happened. their father michael also in the car behind the wheel. they were sitting in the vehicle waiting to pick up the mother. she walked out to find her son shot and crying uncontrollably and had to rush him to the hospital. people in the neighborhood couldn't ignore the sound of gunshots. >> the shooter took off in a matter of seconds. witnesses say they saw him

>> he was walking normally and then started running. >> he was not the intended whoever did this. >> i don't understand. go? >> so this morning there are still a lot of questions about why this even happened. the victim's family says they don't know what his recovery is going to be like but say he'll be here at the hospital for the next few days. ilana gold, cbs 2 news. >> ilana thank you. the pentagon says the u.s. came day. 17 air born strikes hit iraq and syria carried out by fighter air craft bombers and remotely controlled. of north texas. >> oh it's massive. oh my gosh it's big.

camera in a dallas suburb. were leveled. the church was torn apart and five people were killed when a tornado blew cars off the road. the national weather service says the preliminary count shows 11 tornadoes touched down last night. police have now identified the man killed in a christmas day hit-and-run. 59-year-old steven litka was hit by a car in cedar lane friday night. the driver of the car left the scene. no arrests have been made. >> shoppers got a scare on long island. video shows people running for the exits after a fight broke out near the food court. no one was hurt and police didn't make any arrests but the mall was briefly put on lock down. shoppers took off fearing for safety.

this day and age you always got to know what's going to happen and keep your guard up. >> during an attempted robbery the suspect was later arrested. the head ache of christmas shopping should be over too but one day after the holiday this was the frustrating scene outside the garden state plaza. a long line of cars waiting to get in and out as shoppers flock to the busy mall taking advantage of discounts and sales. shoppers say they waited hours just to find a place to park. >> just kept going around until we eventually found something. >> we thought it would be packed because it was the day after christmas but it was really much more crowded than we ever could believe. >> shoppers also say it took several hours just to exit the parking garage. >> takes several hours to find a spot i think i'm going home. >> i would too. happening today

investigators in new jersey are still trying to determine a motive in a murder suicide that left three people dead including an eight-year-old girl in edgewater new jersey. michael shot and killed his 49-

daughter before pulling the trigger on himself. investigators believe the murder suicide took place two or three days before christmas. the mother and daughter were in their p.j. s. >> the shootings took place while they were laying in the bed. >> edgewater police came to the scene on christmas after getting a call from a man in missouri who said his sister and her family didn't show up for the holidays. hate crime detectives have launched an investigation after flyers promoting the kkk were found on vehicles at brookhaven memorial hospital and an apartment complex on christmas. a similar investigation was launched after kkk flyers were found in shirleyy. a college student and a mother of five were found dead

he opened the door holding a bat. an officer opened fire killing him. a 55-year-old woman inside the home was also hit during that gunfire and killed. chicago's mayor issued a statement reading in part any time an officer uses force the public deserves answers. from texting to distracted driving car accidents kill six teenagers every day. >> car companies are adding new features to make driving safer for teens. cbs 2 brian conyberry introduces us to one teenager who was changed forever. >> she texted while driving. >> i was a good student. i was a role model. i was the popular girl in high school and used to model. same. >> the sequences of my life after the car accident is the fact i'm blind in one eye now.

well because of the bone broke in half in my eardrum. i can't create tears because they are damaged and i take medicine to go to sleep. my friends were there for me at first but after a while they weren't. they got tired of me. problems. >> i looked up on her facebook page and she said on there can today? i don't have any friends. >> now several car manufacturers want to stop teens from being distracted behind the wheel. for example the new chevy malibu. >> the moment i unbuckle my seatbelt the music stops. >> parents can program their child's key so the car knows when the teenager is driving and if the seatbelt isn't on the radio isn't either.

and a seasonable chill moves in tomorrow. it will finally feel like december and late monday night into tuesday with the cold air in place a wintery mix to start. it will transition to rain so not a lot going to be left on the ground. but none the less it will be a messy commute tuesday morning i think for many. thankfully the kids don't have to go to school. satellite and radar picture. thick fog at the surface. showers making their way through. most of the wet weather stays to the north throughout the daylight hours as we head through the late afternoon and evening the cold front will sweep on through so we will see rain but in the meantime pumping in very mild air in the meantime. here we go, hour by hour what can you expect for the forecast, today mostly cloudy until the afternoon when the temperatures really start to spike into the 60s. then tonight as we head towards

weather here and the front moving through between the hours of 5 and 8. best bet for weather overnight. your monday morning should be looking good. chilly much colder than we've felt in a few days and the clouds will thicken in advance of the wintery storm. right now it is making a huge mess through new mexico, texas, oklahoma. big problems there but for us we are talking about rain, a wintery mix and a little bit of snow. here we go. 10:00 monday evening we start to see wet weather making it in. it will start as a wintery mix and snow to the north. 2:00 a.m. a mix through the city points west. south of the city rain but north of the city it starts as snow. already a transition of rain into the city with a wintery mix an ice accumulating a tenth of an inch. into the afternoon on tuesday

at times we'll start to see anything that has fallen get melted away and skies will partially clear into the overnight tuesday and wednesday. snow accumulations one to two inches for sullivan and duchess counties. everywhere else a wintery mix transition to rain. for today it's 65 degrees, plenty of clouds and rain moving through especially late in the day. then tomorrow 43 degrees. winds picking up. feeling very seasonable and overnight monday into tuesday looking out for the wintery mess. tuesday morning the commute could be messy and heavy rain moving through. flooding could be a problem at times locally after the temperatures holding steady. >> record warmth for today and a wintery mix monday into tuesday. >> a little something for everyone in the forecast this week. >> unfortunately it's not going to be pretty snow. it's going to be sloppy. >> vanessa thank you. >> your welcome. bad news for giants fans.
