>> good afternoon janelle. and diane. the fire damage was so extensive from some angles you could see straight through the third floor of this three story building. the chief tells us one of the two people killed was found in a second floor front bedroom. this fire moved so quickly every moment counted in order to get out. >> we ducked down under the smoke and watched our homes burn. >> theresa dazed as she stood just feet from her charred home after a lengthy talk with arson investigators. the 31-year-old stunned by the loss of her neighbors and realizing how close she came to possibly losing her own life. >> i sleep with ear plugs, a sound machine, an eye mask so it took a lot to bake me up and my first--wake me up and the first thought was an intrueder then i saw the flames billowing

>> cell phone video capturing the flames towering in the third floor of the building on richardson street in williamsburg. her neighbors and her escaped wearing only t-shirts. the panic began at 1:30 monday morning with what residents describe as a large bang. >> i heard a massive explosion. it sounded like a bomb went off or something. >> another minute or two and i would have been in serious trouble. >> steve and his wife live in the three story building. >> we put a couple of tiles over head with water in case and that was it. >> fda crews arrived within minute trying to reach the man and woman inside who were unaccounted for. >> heavy fire in the first second and third floor of the building. >> it took 200 firefighters nearly 3.5 hours to get the flames under control. their search for the second person killed continuing well after sunrise.

observation at jersey center medical center. they want to watch the toddler through the morning and afternoon in order to go home. improvement. >> he was with him and his five- year-old daughter during the shooting on saturday afternoon at the corner of bergen and harrison avenues. they were waiting for the children's mother at the post office when a gunman opened fire and struck the toddler in the face. >> i heard four or five shots. >> police tell us they were not the shooter's intended target and are searching for the gunman. they saw him take off seconds later and heard for cover. >> we heard the glass. >> a scare that's prompting the victim's father to speak out. he's demanding the violence to stop. >> one day my daughter or my son get killed or i have to move from jersey city to another state. >> mayor steven phillip also

hour tore through the area. 61-year-old says it was the scariest night of her life. >> i stayed in my closet all night long shaking like a leaf an ef4 tornado caused significant damage, knocking over this van and behind me ripping the roof off of their home. >> on sunday authorities evacuated residents near this damaged water tower out of fears of flooding. >> at this point we have had an engineer familiar with that water tower assess it. based on the damage that he saw he was concerned enough to ask us to drain the water tower. >> it's blanketing texas, oklahoma and new mexico with heavy snow and leading officials to shut down nearly all of interstate 40 as dozens

forecasters expect up to 15- inches of snow in some areas before the system moves onto the northeast. omar v cbs 2 news. >> that same weather system is we see the beginning of that later tonight. >> elyse finch is in with more on that timeline. >> you are exactly right. moisture at this point. things are dry. in fact a little bit of sunshine but it is this system that is spinning in our direction so as we put the future cast in motion you notice that 1:30 this afternoon clouds start to thicken up. it's not until 8 tonight we start to see a little bit of snow pushing into the northern suburbs but really it's after midnight things look to get interesting where we see the snow sleet and freezing rain in parts of new jersey talking about heavier rain for new york city and points east so things start to get interesting in the overnight hours and a messy commute. i'll talk about that in your full forecast.

>> thanks so much. he was known as the cloud prince of the harlem globetrotters. he died sunday and was the most famous player for the globetrotters from the 50s to the 70s. he was 83 years old and will have much more on his career on cbs 2 news at 5. tensions are running high after another deadly police shooting, an officer accidentally shot 55-year-old betty jones involving a 19-year- old neighbor and his father saturday. police shot and killed the 19- year-old after he was combative while holding a bat. he was an honor student who suffered mental health issues. family and friends mourn for a thorough investigation. chicago's revery much board is currently investigating. a mix up is to blame for a car crashing into a shopper in

a surveillance camera captured it all on video yesterday. you can see the car pulling into the parking spot. everything seems okay and suddenly the car drives through the front of the store knocking down the man inside. >> it sounded like an explosion. it was something i've never heard before. it was a large crash. i felt the gentleman, the car knocked into me and knocked me backward and from that point in time the gentleman was on the floor. >> that gentleman on the floor has a broken ankle. police say the 88-year-old woman behind the wheel miss took the gas pedal for the brake and is not facing charges. coming up peyton manning is on the defense. >> it's completely fabricated and trash. >> his strong denial after the report accused him of using performance enhancing drugs. praying for answers and this church is not the only one.

a new jersey fire department is warning hover board owners about potential dangers after responding to a call of one catching fire. they posted these pictures on facebook. don't leave them unattended,

headlines. >> andrea grymes has this year in review. >> fire engulfed a massive apartment complex in edgewater new jersey in january placing 1,000 residents. luckily no one was killed. >> thank god i've got my family and that's what's most important to me. >> a plumber accidentally started the fire. >> caught fire at the front of the train. >> this metro north train went up in flames killing five men on board burg the evening run. >> i heard a very loud bang and a lot of screaming. >> the train crashed into an suv at the rail crossing also killing that driver. an ntsb report found a car partially stopped on the tracks when the rail gates came down. in march a gas explosion rocked the east village destroying four buildings leaving two people dead and dozens homeless.

they battled a legionella out break originating in a building cooling tower and was sprayed out in a mist. last but not least one of the biggest stories in the world this year took place right here in our area. pope francis' visit to new york city. >> i came here because i wanted to meet the pope because i believe in a miracle. >> you believe in a miracle. >> and then you saw him. what was that like? >> it was the most precious moment of my life. >> people lined up at the airport on fifth avenue in central park and every place the holy father went on his short trip in september. he's expected to visit the u.s. mexico border coming up in february.
