>> the victims are expected to be okay. some terrifying moments on a charter bus headed into manhattan. a passenger flew through the windshield this morning when the driver stopped short heading into the lincoln tunnel. the driver walked us through what happened. >> i came to the traffic light here, the light turned red, i came to a stop and unknown to me, there was somebody standing up in the bus which i wasn't aware of as i came to a stop. it just went right through the windshield. >> reporter: how fast were you going. >> how fast could i be going is this i wasn't going at any, you know, fast speed or anything like that. i -- he was standing up and he went through the windshield. >> we're told the man was the condition is unknown. the bus was heading into manhattan from baltimore.

fires in new jersey is now under investigation. those fires happened in a lot and affected several cars. scott rapoport has more. >> reporter: bright orange flames lit up the early morning sky over new jersey. behype the fence of the insurance auto auctions lot, firefighters are trying to douse a massive blaze involving 82 cars, they say. the manager of the business telling me he's still trying to make sense of it all. >> we're not sure exactly what happened. >> reporter: firefighters say the blaze broke out shortly after 2:00 a.m. here at this business that takes in and auctions off damaged cars. at this hour, there's no word on what caused the fire and the fire chief could not say if it was suspicious. despite the damage which is being described by firefighters as considerable, the manager here tells me, there is a silver lining. >> we know that for sure, no injuries. >> reporter: investigators are now left to determine how and why this happened.

in new jersey, a phony cop was arrested after pulling over a real police officer. richard goldrick is charged with impersonating a police officer. police say he activated emergency lights and turned over a car last week. turns out, the car belonged to an off-duty police officer. the officer called in the license plate number. and he faces weapons possession charges. this noon, he is free on $52,000 cash bail. the chicago police officer accused of killing laquan mcdonald appeared in court this morning. jason van dyke issued a not guilty plea. prosecutors say he shot mcdonald 16 times in october 2014. dash cam video was only released last month and led to days of protest in chicago and the resignation of the police superintendent. a teenager is finally in

police arrested ethan couch and his mother in mexico. police in texas say the two threw a going away party before they fled the country. >> reporter: ethan and tonya couch, mother and son are now in the hands of mexican authorities after the pair was apprehended on the pacific coast of mexico. this new image released by mexican officials shows the 18- year-old couch with an altered appearance, his blond hair now a dark brown. >> we're excited that we have them back in custody. to be honest with you, we are going to breathe a lot easier when they are back in this country. >> reporter: this month, the two disappeared after couch missed a meeting with the probation officer. >> they planned to disappear. and they had something that was like a going away party before they left town. >> reporter: ethan couch made headlines two years ago when he

four people in a drunk driving crash. a psychologist testified saying that the teen suffered from flu ensacrifice, suggesting his parent's health -- with affluenza, suggesting his parent's wealth taught him no responsibility. this video appears to show couch at a party where a drinking game was being played. it could have violated his probation. even though he is 18, his case hasn't been transferred to an adult court which means he will face punishment in juvenile court. in fort worth, texas, cbs news. authorities say this morning they'll try to the transfer his case to an adult court. the sheriff's department said ethan's mother tonya are be arrested on charges of hindering an apprehension. and to a terror bust in belgium today. officials say two people were arrested during the holidays.

community leaders are concerned. >> in our community here, that someone would be so maliciously viciously attacked is just like, what kind of people are capable of doing this? >> the victim needed more than 70 stitches to his head. a jersey city toddler shot in the face over the weekend woke up in his own bed this morning after being released from the hospital. the 18-month-old was injured when a stray bullet hit the family's car and landed in his after the shooting, his father called on the mayor to do something about the increase in crime. he tells us he got some answers when the mayor called him at home. >> promised me it's going to be more safe and he's going to hire more officers to provide our life and i appreciate his call. >> be safe. >> police have not made any arrests in had this case. there were 86 shootings this year compared to 77 last year. newly released 911 calls capture fear after the bear attack on a boy scout leader in rockaway, new jersey. >> did the gentleman come out

box with a ring. he dropped to one knee and popped the question. the class erupted in squeals of excitement as they said yes. >> better excited audience. >> they usually are. time now to check in with elise finch and the exexclusive cbs 2 news forecast. >> it's been busy. not as busy as folks who have to actually clear snow. so temperature right now are warming, we knew that they would. and the rain tapering off right now. let's check in with some of our weather watchers and see what kinds of numbers we're seeing right now. we do have the rising temperatures so we have a couple of 47-degree readings. this is from brian in long beach it's 47 where he is. things are getting better when we show the satellite and radar. still some locations struggling to get above the freezing mark, this is anthony in new jersey,

of snow and he took this picture for us of the cat checking my work. yeah, examine, we had snow but also sleet. it made it heavier to shovel the snow. and let's take a live look outside and see what we have going on right now. it's interesting to say the least as we take a look at the cameras. we still have raindrops on the lens creating drizzle and fog and winds are variable between 6 and 20 miles per hour. so winds have been an issue. cold temperatures with the wind chill. and it's feeling colder. things are starting to get better. as we take a look at temperatures around the area, sparta still struggling here to get comfortably above freezing, about 44 for central park. and 52 for belmar. and 51 in the hamptons. sullivan, pike county, the only county still with winter weather advisories in effect. they'll expire in just under 40 minutes. and the vortex satellite and radar. shows the bulk of the rain has moved offshore.

just a little bit of linger moisture so the worst is absolutely over. that's the good news. and temperatures rising. throughout the day today, the evening commute, much drier and nicer than the morning commute. and tomorrow we look to stay dry until late. and then we have a chance to see some showers late wednesday into early thursday. and then we get nice clearing on thursday and that's good news for the last day of 2015. it means that your new year's eve forecast looks like this, 9:00 p.m., brisk and quiet, should be around 41 when the ball drops. not bad at all. today's high should be 51 degrees. and we still have a little bit of left over light drizzle. that's about it. tonight, 42 degrees with clouds and fog. and here is a look at the seven- day forecast, a bunch of 50s but we start 2016 with a lot of sunshine and 45 degrees and staying in the 40s for the new year. >> so ball drop temperature -- >> 41 degrees. >> 41 degrees. not that bad.
