there were shots fired at this building. naval medical center san diego posted a message on social media telling people inside to run, hide or fight. again, an active shooter at a naval medical facility in san diego. there are no reports of injuries or the status of the shooter at this point. of course we will continue to follow this for you and we will bring you any new information as we get it. now to our other big story, the storm clean up that's still underway here after days of being snowed in. some residents in queens who say they were ignored by the city is getting help. elise finch is live in wood haven with the story. >> reporter: i'm on 96th street here. basically all of the smaller streets off of 96th we're seeing people start to dig out. they got help from mother nature.

current temperature reading we're getting. 46.8 degrees promoting a lot of melting, help helping a lot of people dig out. the other help was in the form of city snow removal equipment. >> the angry snowman in the middle of 86th road is no more. it was finally destroyed this morning when sanitation crews brought in heavy that machinery to clear and this other streets in wood haven. >> about time. >> it was really trech acherous. >> you got stuck? >> i got stuck many times. >> it's good now. it was impossible before but people -- it brought the community together. >> maria ponce said being snowed in for two full days made her feel like the city doesn't value her neighborhood. >> it doesn't matter. >> is that how you feel?

>> a number of areas in queens residents were unable to dig out as of monday night. >> my car has been in the same place since saturday. it seems we've been ignored and forgotten. >> today crews used front end loaders to clear out 96th street near jamaica avenue. they transported the snow to forest park. the big dig that most people did on sunday is finally happening here. >> this is a very tight block they did try to do it on saturday but a truck got stuck in here and they had to pull out the garbage truck. sanitation workers are trying to do their best. >> reporter: now, i have to say there were dozens of sanitation crews out when we started our journey. we were here at 4:00 in the morning all other queens and people all over queens were able to dig their cars out and said after all of this they will be mindful to not put the snow back in the street. live in

cbs 2 news. governor chris christie firing back at critics on the way he handled the storms. he made some comments while campaigning for president. steven langford is live. >> reporter: governor christie is back in new hampshire campaigning after making a series of appearances in the new jersey including at the public works garage. he was asked at a town hall meeting in new hampshire about his presence in his home state following the storm that hammered new jersey. >> i went to school in new jersey and have a lot of friends. >> where? >> pennington. why are you here in new hampshire campaigning instead of there helping surveying the damages done by the coastal flooding from the storm? >> because it's already done. it's already done. >> okay . >> tell me why you think it isn't.

of north wildwood who said the dune system suffered major damage during the snowstorm. governor christie called him one crazy mayor in south jersey who said the flooding is worse than a sandy. steve langford, cbs 2 news >> thank you. the nypd issued a strong reminder to drivers to clear the roof of your car. they tweeted out this picture this morning reminding drivers that keeping the snow on the roof of your car is not only dangerous but against the law. traffic is moving again at la guardia airport after a complete disaster last night. drivers sat in gridlock for hours when delayed flights from the storm finally resumed. ilana gold has the details. >> the scope of the chaos at la guardia airport captured by chopper 2 last night. cars backed up for miles leading in and out of terminals and gridlock on the grand central parkway starting around 6:00. >> i've never seen the line snack at every terminal back and forth. >> some drivers sat at a

>> we've been sitting here for 4 hours. this line has not moved hardly at all. >> as people flooded the roads trying to catch their planes because many delayed flights just resumed. some took a chance saying they got out of their cabs and buses, walked for at least 30 minutes to try and make it on time. >> we headed across the bridge to come down here. it was just really bad traffic yesterday. >> you didn't make your flight? >> nope. >> today they're back at la guardia with tickets for new flights home. >> i've been trying to get out of new york since thursday night. >> and getting home from la guardia in monday's traffic also a nightmare. >> there were probably 500 people or more trying to get cabs and there were no cabs. i jury -- i jumped on the bus and it took an hour to get out from the delta terminal. >> passengers want answers because they said the port authority was not prepared.

couldn't new york do something better. >> a port authority spokesperson said several factors are to blame including a car fire on the grand central parkway and a rush of passengers arriving and leaving. at la guardia airport, ilana gold, cbs 2 news. >> some passengers said they may not be able to get out of la guardia even today after missing their flights last night. what a difference a day makes. the long island railroad trains are back on track across all 12 branchs the day after a nightmare commute for many. andrea grymes spoke with commuters. >> i got my fingers crossed that hopefully i'll make it in on time. >> cameron gold hopped on the 706 train on schedule this morning along with dozens of other riders. it was the first morning train stop at garden city since saturday's blizzard. >> it seems like it's running well. i saw a train come in as i got here. i was surprised.

is just very interesting to me. this is pleasant valley. they didn't get any snow. it's just amazing. mark just sent that in. there was a big drop off in numbers. we've still seeing evidence of that. head down to parts of the jersey shore and we're seeing some mild temperatures. right along the shore totals were down a bit but they were dealing with flooding. right now wind winds out of the west 9 to 17. not bad in the hamptons, it's a nifty 250. 46 babylon, even white plains at 41. these numbers compared to yesterday, 5, 10, 12, 13 degrees warmer than it was. that's some good news. we're above normal shooting for 45. we've been at 43, we've been doing a degree up a degree. looking at the

sun and clouds. had that one line of showers push through. could see another line this afternoon affiliated with that right there. we'll turn on the future cast and show to you how the models are handling there. during parts of the commute you can see a little bit of wet weather and then a shower or two over night tonight. i want to zoom out to talk about the potential for a system coming in thursday night into friday. look at it. it's kind of a squeeze play there. basically two separate lows, one to the north has a chance of bringing in a passing flurry but the bigger low stays out to sea so that precipitation should miss us. we see numbers bouncing back again after a little cool down thursday and friday, into the 40s saturday and sunday. a lot of melting, a lot of puddles, a lot of mush but at least it will be warmer over the next few days. >> and we won't see snow. >> right. let's bring you some

reports of a gas leak at a school in terry town. let's go to jim smith in chopper 2 with the latest for us. jim. >> reporter: mary, we do want to mention that nobody was injured and the school has been evacuated. this happened just outside the tafet hill school. coned and to fire department are here on the scene. the school was evacuated, all the people in the school taken to a near by school as a precaution. again, it does appear that coned and the fire department have things under control after a gas line was struck in the parking lot of the hill. live, jim smith, cbs 2 news. >> thank you.
