motioning to a 10-year-old girl from across 81st street. when she ignored the stranger he followed her. the video alarming for parents in the neighborhood. >> it's a very sad for a mom. nobody wants that my kid is in trouble. >> reporter: the nypd says the little girl screamed and ran for help. she ended up at the intersection of 81st street and 37th avenue. the crossing guard confronted the luring suspect. plastered warning posters. the alleged incident terrifying. she has an 8-year-old daughter. >> i always pick her up. but it made me feel bad. >> so your daughter doesn't walk alone? >> no, never. >> reporter: she's taught her what to do if she's ever in this situation. >> run away and say help.

community is thankful detectives tracked down this suspect. they are still shaken over the accusations. >> i feel scared for the kids who live in this neighborhood. >> reporter: police say there's no indication that carela may have targeted other kids in this area. he's charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child. >> thank you. new this morning, police say they're on the hunt for a hit and run driver who left a woman padly injured. the woman had been trying to hail a cab when she was sideswiped. this happened near midnight. the victim is in critical condition at bellevue hospital. campaign 2016. two days until the iowa caucuses and the candidates are in full court press mode to win over voters. >> live from des moines with more. >> reporter: the very first

white house is just around the corner. and candidates are busy campaigning and criticizing. just days before the iowa caucuses, republican presidential candidates saved their sharpest jabs for democratic front runner hillary clinton. this after revelations the private home server she used while serving as secretary of the state contained close to two dozen top secret e-mails. >> classified top secret because revealing it in public could pose a grave threat to the national security of this country. >> anyone who does something like that, who lies can never be commander in chief. >> top secret is one of the highest levels of classification. if if released would cause exceptionally grave damage to the national security. clinton's camp described the news as overclassification run amuck. bernie sanders who is trailing closely behind her in the polls also brushed off the issue.

contender in the race, bernie sanders is drawing much of his support from millennials who make up nearly a third of voters. jacob mckay, a sanders supporter will vote for the first time during monday night's caucuses. he attended a what's a caucus event at drake university where students simulated the political frenzy of the caucus experience. >> i've gotten to see a lot of candidates talk and i haven't gotten the process down yet. >> in a process that takes several hours, caucus goers on both sides will take to schools, gyms and other locations to choose a candidate. and i'll be here at the iowa caucuses media center where more than 1600 reporters and crews from around the world will be staked out on caucus night getting live updates from this l.e.d. wall behind me. >> thank you. some passengers from a flight from newark to vancouver

air canada flight 549 was forced to divert to toronto. a passenger posted this picture on twitter of the oxygen masks coming down saying the pilot had to quickly descend from 36,000 feet to 10,000 feet. the passenger credited the crew for doing a great job in the emergency. the plane landed safely. the city is stepping up security after a deadly stabbing inside a manhattan homeless shelter. the department of homeless services police terrificked all residents and -- frisked all residents and searched all rooms. deven black was almost decapitated at the facility. police suspect his roommate anthony white is responsible. the victim was a former new york city schoolteacher and librarian. his son is calling for better mental health treatment for the homeless. >>

for the suspect. a strike at the ports of new york and new jersey is now over. more than 1000 long shoremen have been ordered back to work by their union. they walked off the job yesterday morning in a reported dispute with the water front commission. chopper 2 was over port elizabeth during the walk out that left a long line of truckers at a standstill. port authority says operations will resume as normal on monday. time is 6:08. on fire and out of control, a burning truck rolls backwards down a highway. only cbs 2 speaks with the driver. a local family tricked into thinking their daughter had been kidnapped and held for ransom. it was all a hoax. how your facebook page could be helping cons. time to dine. it is restaurant week in new york. we have a chef preparing one of the three course offerings and find out how you can get a free meal. first herself vanessa murdock with your forecast.

the test results were announced yesterday. arian gavali was released thursday night. the raccoon attacked the 6-year- old while he was on his way to school with his mom on wednesday. a good samaritan helped rescue the boy and killed the animal. we're hearing from the driver who was behind the wheel as his tractor trailer went up in flames on a new jersey highway. a dash cam caught the whole incident on video and cbs 2's dave carlin has the interview. >> reporter: a delivery truck filled with snacks ablaze and you're about to see that wasn't even the worse of it. >> just happened so quick. very scary. >> reporter: just jumped out of the driver's seat. he pulled over southbound route 15 in sparta after realizing flames were coming from underneath. he thought he was watching from a safe distance but this made him jump.

came towards the police car. >> sparta police officers scattered. as the truck barreled across several lanes of traffic. the officers trying to save their patrol cars. right in the line of fire. here's another view from inside sergeant joseph pensato's car. just out of view of that dash cam, sergeant pensato making a split decision. getting out of that patrol car, then diving out of the way of the burning snack truck. >> somehow the truck just missed the police car and everything and went all the way to a left lane and ended up against the guardrail. and that's what stopped the truck pretty much. >> reporter: the sergeant has just minor injuries and the vivid memory of how much worse it could have been. in sparta, dave carlin. a long island heart attack survivor reunites with the police officer who saved her life.

from the denver broncos taking on the carolina panthers in san francisco. security preparations, as you can imagine, are in full swing. the fbi has set up a joint operation center at a secret location to monitor threats. the center will also coordinate response to all nfl-sanctioned events in the san francisco and santa clara areas. while no threats are known, officers have been training for any possible incidents. >> we don't want to be overbearing. you're not going to see officers hovering over people with rifles, but we are going to be present and we're not going to be too far away from any large crowds or anything that could be threatening. >> k 9 units will check for explosives. the faa will also watch for rogue drones operating in closed air space. you can watch super bowl 50 right here on cbs 2 next sunday starting at 6:30. afterwards stay tuned for the

of the normal price. >> john o is here to talk more about restaurant week and show us a few dishes being offered. welcome. thank you for being here so early. >> it's a little outside my hours but it's okay. >> you've been up late. welcome. for people who have never been to your restaurant, tell us about it. >> we're located at 14th and 9th in the meat packing restaurant. classic italian and new american entrees a bit, but also staying true to italian flavors. >> sounds great to me. explain about the event itself for people who have never participated in restaurant week. >> restaurant week is an opportunity for any diner to come in to a restaurant where typically they can't really afford. right now our guest average is a little less than half of what it normally is. we really appreciate it because we reach out to more people. >> and spread the word. it's going on through friday. for lunch i know you have to check with the restaurant to see what they're offering.

how much and dinner is how much? >> $25 and dinner is $38. >> you guys are serving dinner. you brought something to show us. preferably taste. >> i see a lot of great stuff. let's talk about food. >> a few of our dishes. we have our raw yellow tail. pickled red onions. you have the familiar sushi flavors with it. right next to that our coconut pana cotta. that's carmellized pineapple with a guava soup and our famous spaghetti behind it. >> you'll show us how you put this together; right? >> we start off with a base of plum tomatoes and cook that down and mash it up with a potato masher. the reason we do that is when you get that tomato sauce and it's pasty and you pour it out of the can and it's gross and it looks like it was pureed. in this case you have nice chunks, it looks like actual

beautiful sauce with that. right in front of that we have our oil we've infused with garlic and basil. after it's all out, we incorporate it together and that's where all the magic happens. >> oh yeah. that smells amazing right there. i think anything you put in there is going to taste fantastic. >> you put it in the dish. right before that you just mixed it all together? >> we go with a little fresh basil, a little peperincino and parmesan cheese. >> this looks delicious. tell us you you got your start. you went to the french culinary institute. >> after moving from chicago i thought it was time for a change from the corporate world so i wanted to cook. i can't really sit in front of a computer all day so i really wanted to do something else. i decided to come to new york, went to french culinary institute. i started off at august restaurant and after that it was all history. >> all history.
