right now. good morning. 6:00a.m. on this sunday, february 7th. i'm diane macedo. >> i'm andrea grymes. meteorologist vanessa murdock is here with the forecast. good super bowl watching weather, right? >> it will be a beautiful day, and think goodness super bowl is at 6:30. it's dark out. you will have enjoyed a gorgeous sunday and it's time to step inside and watch the action. it's cold this morning, but we have lots of sunshine to expect, sunrise just after 7:00. 34 in the city. 26 scarsdale. beautiful start to the day. we're going to see lots of sun early. the clouds thicken late. 9:00a.m., 37. feels like 35. by noon 43. feels like 42. 3:00this afternoon our high of 47, feeling like 46.

mostly cloudy skies by 9:00 tonight. 40 degrees then. coming up in my full forecast we'll talk about the potential for snow, those clouds that are thickening through the day today is in advance of a system that looks to bring us snow through the day tomorrow. i'll have details on what we can expect coming up in my full forecast. back to you. thank you. super bowl l is just hours away and everyone is pretty excited about this. >> to say the least. fans of course are eager to take in the big game between the broncos and panthers. cbs2's otis livingston joins us from san francisco with a preview. good morning. >> reporter: i am honored to kick off cbs2's live coverage from super bowl l from here in san francisco in super bowl city. it's pretty much shut down, which is a contrast to all week. whether it's jets, giants, panthers, broncos, if you can't

super bowl ring tonight, then you don't have a soul. wayne, new jersey native is a first timer to the big game, but has had tragedy in his life. his mother is a breast cancer survivor. his son suffers from a congenital heart deflect. the left side of his heart is severely undeveloped. he's under gone at least four heart surgeries since he was born in 2012. just like life, the game of football is uncertain, so he's not taking this opportunity for granted. >> does it make it more special with some of the things you have gone through, your family has gone through, your mom being a breast cancer survivor and your son's situation? >> yeah. these last few years we've been through a lot personally. that's been pretty well documented. but i think it's also a big reason why we're here. i think it's taught us a lot about ourselves. i know i've learned a lot about

moops to move forward in the face of adversity. it's all part of one big story line. >> reporter: greg's trade from chicago in 2011 was a blessing in disguise, because a prominent hospital in charlotte to help his son. what do they listen to to get fired up to play some football? >> snoop made it on there a couple of times. i can't say what songs, old snoop. songs he's probably not proud of, leave it like that. >> i like to chill out. i'm not banging my head against

>> reporter: crane operator is kevin reilly. he's been questioned and tested negative for all substances. and the crane's computer could be a key to clues. and the company that owns the crane has been cited -- >> bay cranes is about a quarter of the cranes in the city. >> reporter: david wichs was killed while walking to work. and another woman was hurt while getting a cup of coffee. and a 74-year-old man is still

>> we walk past scaffolding every day and we don't think to look up and now it's something we have to be concerned about. >> reporter: here's another live look at west broadway and worth, where crews are still working on the cleanup. there's still a difficult job ahead of them, because that crane was so massive. there are still so many questions as well about what happened out here, and investigators say it could take several weeks to get answers. >> we'll have to be patient to get the answers we want. a funeral for david wichs will be held this morning. he will be buried in saddle brook, new jersey. a new jersey man accused of driving over a curb and striking a police officer has been arrested. investigators say the dover officer was responding to a call about several people sleeping in a vehicle yesterday. when he arrived on scene,

officer. that officer is recovering. a second person in the vehicle was charged with drug possession and throwing bodily fluid at an officer. police have arrested the man they say is behind a string of robberies and slashings on the subway. police say irving slashed a man on the hand last week on an uptown c train after the victim phone. he also stole food, snatched an ipad from a woman on a courtroom train. new york city has seen a recent uptick in crime in the subway system. riders say they're worried about that. >> sometimes i try to avoid the train altogether. >> can't always do that. >> can't always do that. >> but you try. >> i try. >> it's crazy. i believe there should be more cops on the street. >> police say a man was slashed early yesterday morning after

secretary of state john kerry is condemning the action. the u.s., japan, and south korea have called for an emergency union security council meeting. president of a cornell university fraternity has been arrested on sexual assault charges, aaccused of attacking the woman in his bedroom last weekend. the frat is now suspended at cornell. what was supposed to be a routine physical for a newborn in texas ended with a medical mixup. little nate melton was given a procedure to correct a tongue with a limited range of motion. the doctor cut a flap of skin underneath nate's tongue after confusing him with another infant. >> essentially they took our child who was 100% healthy,

and took him out of the nursery and cut his mouth. >> the doctor has apologized. the boy's parents say they're worried he may now have problems speaking and eating. m&m's will soon look different. mars has announced they're removing artificial coloring from their sweets. they also include snickers, milky way and others. don't worry, the company says the artificial coloring is safe. >> i'll still eat all of that. with or without the coloring. people will be eating a lot of snacks today with the super bowl, and it's good weather to stay inside tonight. no major problems if you're going to or from parties. >> not tonight. tomorrow morning's commute could be slick in spots. we'll talk about that. first let's talk about the good news, how lovely it is going to be. >> i thought we were going back

tomorrow 38 with snow moving through. tuesday 36 with snow moving through. wednesday still getting colder. many highs will struggle to get out of the 20s into friday and saturday. as for what's happening out there now, we see clear skies overhead clouds easing in from the south. here's the area of low pressure that first throws us the clouds, may then bring us snow. this is how we see it playing out. overnight, tonight through the day tomorrow this is system number one. the center of the storm passes offshore. it does intensify. we'll be grazeed by the western edge of that storm. what does this mean? it will mean periods of light snow, especially south and east of the city. as we go through the day tomorrow, through the morning hours best bet for snow south and east. through the afternoon hours we'll all start to see a little bit of snow shower activity.

this one now making its way through the great lakes region. we'll be diving on through late monday night, through the day tuesday, even linger into wednesday. we are talking about periods of snow through that time as well. increasing clouds for today. then as we make our way overnight, clouds get thick. tomorrow morning's early commute, south and east, slick spots. through the afternoon periods of light snow. accumulation-wise for the entirety of the snow period monday through wednesday, we're looking at maybe 3 to 6 inches east of the city. elsewhere a trace to 3. that's total monday through wednesday. for today 47 degrees, increasing clouds. tomorrow, 38. periods of snow especially south and east. tuesday, wednesday, more snow. the 30s. a big drop off for temperatures thursday through saturday.
