>> first meteorologist van van is hereessa mur -- vanessa murdoch is here with the weather. >> i'm the barrier of very cold news. it feels cold right now but nothing compared to what it will feel like today or tomorrow. it will feel 20 to 30 degrees colder than it does right now. 21 degrees in the city. 15 in andover. 15 in the hamptons. the windchills sub zero for monticello. it feels like three bell low zero in the city. the hamptons, it feels like five. as we take you through the forecast. 9:00 a.m.. it will feel like five. 17 by noon. the winds ramp up this afternoon so note at 3:00 when the temperatures is 14 it will feel

the suspect repeatedly punched the driver. the incident took place two weeks ago on a bus near avenue d. the driver told police the attack was unprovoked. police on long island are investigating a home i nassau county. the home owner heard a noise in the basement after midnight and saw a man running from the side of her house. police say the suspect left empty handed. the coast guard will conduct a final inspection of royal caribbean's anthem of the seas. the cruise ship is scheduled to depart for another eight-day cruise this afternoon. on wednesday, it pulled into new jersey with a damaged propulsion system. royal caribbean says most of the damage was cosmetic and the repairs are on track. it is 6:08.

it is a chilly one. it feels like 11. the actual temperature is 21. we have west, northwest . this is as warm as it gets. we could see a passing snow shower and tonight, brutally cold. we're talking windchills in the negative 20 to potentially sub zero by 50 degrees overnight into tomorrow morning. now, that extreme is well north of the city but nonetheless, within the viewing area and it will just be critically cold for all of us. here is what we expect tomorrow morning. potentially a record low. now, the record right now stands at two degrees set back in 1916. what i love about this, tha 100 years ago. we could tie or break the record exactly 100 years later tomorrow. as we look at what is going down, everybody under at least a windchill advisory but windchill warnings for those of you in the pink. 20 to 40 degrees below is what it will feel like for those of

here is how we think it spreads out. 15 below to 25 below overnight to tomorrow morning. this is what it feels like. 20 to 30 below north or west of the city. city. note the light shade of purple. those would be the extreme, potentially 50 below windchills at the higher elevations. as we look at vortex satellite and radar picture right now. you can't see the cold air moving in but you can see snow showers sweeping through. what is going to happen today is we have an arctic cold front moving through right now, sweeping on through, like this, as it does so, that cold air starts to sink in. i say cold but colder and coldest of the winter, that air, yes, we'll be sinking in. we'll see a few passing snow showers and temperatures will drop off throughout the day. 21 degrees right now and falling.

hours, zero to 10 below, winds will be out of the northwest at 20 to 30. gusting to 30 plus. they'll be ramping up throughout your day. overnight tonight, this is where the actual temperatures will be two in the city. below in new palt. after the brutally cold windchills, again it will feel like 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 below. tomorrow afternoon, the high of 17 degrees, frigid sunshine to end your weekend. the windchill during the day at peak heating will feel like five below to five on the plus side. that will feel pretty nice by then. northwest winds at 10 to on 20. the winds will be subsiding throughout day tomorrow. as we take you to the extended going down. weekend. through valentine's day tomorrow, the high of 17 could be a new record. monday it is 34 and as we get

. good morning. 6:30 on this saturday, february 13th. i'm diane macedo. >> and i'm andrea grymes. the top stories straight ahead. the top story is the weather. vanessa murdock is here with a look at the freezing forecast. >> cold out there right now but it is going to ge worse. >> no sugar coating. >> let's not sugar coat this at all. the good news is if you want to know how long this lasts, it will be very brief. we'll be dealing with the incredibly cold temperatures. 21 in the city. 19 in linden, 18 in babylon. factor in the winds, right now. it feels like three below in liberty. susex feels like five and central park feels like 11.

so it is the warmest now than it will be all day. in addition to temperatures dropping, the winds will be ramping up. so let's look at the feels like temperatures. at nine it feels like five. by noon it feels like two degrees and then we go below zero. 3:00 this afternoon, feels like four below, by six, feels like eight below. nine tonight, feeling like 12 below. we could have passing snow showers but of course, the big story is the extreme windchill so coming up in my full forecast. we'll talk about how much lower the numbers go appeared what you can expect as we make our -- and what you can expect as we make our way into the work week. >> how much lower the numbers go as if they aren't low enough already. the tri-state area is bracing for that extreme cold this weekend. we have a live look at 72nd street. we're looking at 21 degrees

set his class mate's hair on fire. the 13-year-old boy brought a cigarette lighter to class in shirley. students tell us the boy and his friends were goofing around and did it on purpose. >> it was just like a little flame and it started getting really big and she was screaming and she ran into the next hall way. >> he lit her on fire and she was running around because i guess he got mad at her. >> a teacher put out the fire. the 14-year-old girl declined medical attention and went home with her parents. the student accused of setting the fire has been suspended for the remainder of the school year. we have new information this morning on the shooting deaths of two girls at an arizona high school. glendale police calling it a murder-suicide. the suicide note was found at the scene of the shooting north of phoenix. the 2, 15-year-old victims were reportedly shot once and a weapon was found near their bodies.

number of empire state breweries jump from 95 in 2012 to about 240 today. in new jersey, the garden state craft brewers guild says there are 43 and another 40 expected to open in the next two years. >> how much grain do you go through? >> a lot. >> new jersey beer company was the first craft brewery to open in hudson c. >> to have this in the suburbs it is fun for people to do, an activity and something for people to be proud of. to say that beer is from new jersey. >>reporter: 900 different establishments sold new jersey beer company's beer last year. all of it made right here. all by these two brewers behind me. >> it is fantastic. you get a great feeling when you see your beer out there and people drinking it and enjoying it. >>reporter: they believe the taste and the carefully selected ingredients keep people coming

everybody is doing what they can to stay warm, right? >> absolutely. that is what we hope. we want everybody to stay safe as we go into the coldest weekend of winter and unfortunately dangerously cold windchills are expected as we roll through the day, especially tonight and into tomorrow morning. weather watchers this morning are telling us good things. it is freezing out there they say. certainly things are dropping on off. the winds may be on the calm side now but they will be ramping up as the day progresses. we're talking about winds gusting as high as 45 miles an hour by this afternoon. let's take you live outside right now, show you what is going down across the city. it is a pretty picture. there are clouds out. there we could have passing snow showers as well. but this picture from high a top the empire state building. it is 21 degrees but it feels like 11. winds are out of the west, northwest at 17 miles an hour. here are the cold, hard facts going into the weekend.

low is two degrees. that would tie the daily record low set back in 1916. 100 years ago. now, the coldest day last year was two degrees. that was february the 20th. and the coldest day ever, 15 below back in 1934. it is going to feel 15 below but that won't be the actual temperature tonight. we're talking about a two-degree low. now, tomorrow, the highs anticipated to be 17 degrees and that is exactly where the record stands right now. could it also be a record cold day for valentine's day as well. lots going down this weekend, of course, the cold, the big story. we have windchill alerts in effect. both warnings and advisories. everyone can anticipate windchills at sub zero levels beginning late this afternoon and continuing through midday tomorrow. on the vortex satellite and rolling through. snow showers as well.

what is happening is an arctic cold front is moving through. its way in. winds will be ramping up and you'll be feeling the chill even worse than you feel it right now. here we go, hour by hour, notice we're all on the plus side still but as we go through the day, we see the numbers drop into the negative ranges, sub zero by one in the city at three. 20 below in monticello by three this afternoon. 8:00 tonight. 11 below in the city. 30 below up in monticello. as you make your way to sunday morning, we're talking on average 20 below zero is what it will feel like. please, be careful. tomorrow afternoon, a high of 17. windchills between five below and five on the plus side. plenty of sunshine tomorrow but still on the windy side. for monday it is 34 degrees, yes, temperatures are warming up. we'll see snow moving in late in the afternoon and evening and then it will change over to rain as temperatures continue to warm overnight monday through the day on tuesday.
