talk about the warm up in the second half of your weekend. thank you. we have new information this morning after yoko ono was rushed to a hospital. >> ono turned 83 earlier this month. she about been hospitalized for flu like symptoms her son, shawn, ono lennon tweeted his mother is fine and did not have a stroke as previously reported. ono was taken to mount sinai hospital around 9:00, the same hospital where her husband john lennon died after getting shot in 1980. her representative said she should be released some time today. the nypd is on a runt behind the latest -- on a hunt for the of slashings. cbs 2 lana gold is live at the station where it happened. >>reporter: police say the suspect attacked the victim as he was getting on the subway

a lot of riders are scared for the safety because the number of slashings has spiked in the last few months. the nypd making its presence known as 57th street avenue in midtown stepping up security after a slashing here around 8:00 friday morning. >> they need to do something about it. definitely. >>reporter: police say the victim was boarding the crowded train car when he bumped into a man standing by the doorway. the two got into a heated argument and cursed at each other. seconds later, the suspect pulled out a knife and slashed him across the left side of his face and ron off. investigators tell us the 60-year-old victim went to work at a luxury watch and jewelry store at 63rd and madison where someone called 9111. >> i saw the ambulance over here and cops pulled up behind him and they went right to the ambulance. somebody must have been in there injured. >>reporter: the ambulance rushed the man from new jersey to

wounds. subway riders are alarmed. >> they need more policing nuts. >>reporter: according to the nypd there, have been 15 slashings on subways january 1st compared to 10 for the same timeframe last year. so far in 2016, 609 slashings and stabbings have been reported combined. the police response to the crime. >> shootings an murders are down, you've lost interest to them. if it bleeds it leads. >>reporter:. he points out only a handful of the stabbing and slashing incidents were random. and going back to yesterday's crime here, police tell us they don't have a good description of the suspect. if you have any information, they want you to come forward. illana gold, cbs 2 news. the nypd is crediting alert officers in the arrest of a

police say 33-year-old was arrested thursday after officers spotted him on a coney island subway platform. the officers recognized him from the wanted poster they pulled up on the department issued smart phone. ambilard is facing numerous charges including murder and shooting of a 51-year-old back in november. one of long island's highest ranking police officers has pleaded guilty to violating a suspect's civil rights. james greensberg admitted to roughing up christopher lobe and trying to cover it up. he had broken into the suv and taken the chief's duffel bag. >> he acknowledged his lack of judgment and failure in leadership. >> the days of the corruption, cover ups, and abuse of power are over. >> he is expected to be sentenced to four years in

the may 27th commencement time has been changed to 4:00 p.m. on may 27th. that is an hour earlier than previously scheduled. the change comes after some complained the later start time would make it difficult for jewish students ab observing sabbath to observe the ceremony and the sun down. it is scheduled to end at 5:45 p.m.. a plan to end airline restrictions at airport has has some concerned airport in white plains is limited to 480 passengers an hour but the county executive wants to replace that limit with a daily cap saying it is needed to accommodate increased traffic during peak travel times. >> the airport is big enough to support the same amount of run ways and terminals. >> you're worried about what they have in mind? >> i'm terrified. >> we want to make it more convenience and accommodate to changes and technology. >> the legislature will review that request next week. we have new video of the

>> today's tip of the day is going to be with the beautiful baby grape tomatoes in the market right now. they're small grape tomatoes which are great because you don't have to throw them in half and get in in the pain. cut them in half when they're this small, they'll be tomato juice. let's talk about selection and storage. when you buy them, nice and red all the way around. check the bottom right here, make sure all of the tomatoes look beautiful. when you bring them home, although a lot of people like to store them in the fridge, leave them at room temperature. there is a lot of sugar which means the shelf life is short. store them on the counter, enjoy them within a few days. that is it. any longer, they start to shrivel up and taste awful and that is not any good whatsoever.

firefighters head to free two people or two trapped men from a vehicle that barrelled into the home. witnesses say the van was speeding down the street when it slammed into the corner of the house. the van from a cap called dry wall plus left a huge hole in the wall. a man was upstairs watching tv when he heard the impact. >> it was like a freight train coming through here and i the big noise. it scared the hell out of me. >> no one inside was hurt. the house has a blue tarp covering a hole in the living room and quite a mess inside. new jersey police say they're wasting resources over a growing problem called swatting. investigators say a computer generated bomb threat was sent to the high school threatening to kill students. similar calls were made in schools in hack sack, and they all turned out to be a head coach.

present. for today it is going to be a mostly sunny day. we have high pressure dominating your entire weekend forecast. here is what is happening. for today, high pressure is nestled off to the southwest. winds on average will be out of the west and again it will be a breezy day. tomorrow, high pressure moves off of the coast and with that, winds will be out of the southwest and warming us up oh, so nicely. for today, chilly, bright, brisk, love layout. there just chilly. you'll want to bundle up. tomorrow, as i mentioned, the winds will be cranking out of the southwest. it will still be breezy. we'll have a nice, spring like finish with highs at 60. then on monday, what is through. we'll likely see a few showers on monday. we'll be on the breezy side. temperatures, however, monday, are going to be on the mild side so that is very good news as we head into the work week. we're talking no snow to start it, but by the work week's end, we could have some snow showers
