were leaving this courthouse a little earlier. they say they are relieved that someone is in custody. again, the driver saw exactly what he did and decided to drive away. and now police have arrested two the people. neighbors are remembering the little girl and reliving what happened monday morning. >> when i come around the corner, i saw the paramedic pick up the little girl. >> reporter: the 7-year-old and her mother were crossing the street on their way to school. in this surveillance video, you can see the chevy tahoe run into the path of the mother and her daughter. she was killed by the impact. her mother left cradling the child. we've paused the video there but as it resumes, you can see the driver get out to see what he has done. he gets back in the truck and speeds away. we spoke with a family friend at the hospital yesterday begging for the driver to the

>> if you have a heart, if you're part human, please, surrender herself. >> reporter: and now neighbors are relieved to know that two people are in custody in connection to this case. >> he has to pay. by jail or whatever. but you got to realize, they took somebody's life and a little girl. >> reporter: the family tells me that the mother is still in the hospital and still unconscious. the sheriff's office will be having the press conference this afternoon to tell us who was arrested and the charges that they now face. in west new york, cbs 2 news. >> thank you. police in new jersey are searching for the gunman who hit and wounded 75-year-old boy sitting in his -- wounded a 7- year-old boy sitting in his own home. meg baker is live in new jersey. >> reporter: chris and mary, we are outside st. joseph's regional medical center where that brave young boy, seven years old is recovering after

and earlier we spoke to his aunt who says if he had been hit just a few inches lower, he would not be here. this second grader wasn't even safe inside his own home. he was hit in the shoulder when gunfire erupted outside here. >> my grandmother and mother were in the house. the kids were playing in the living room. and six shots were fired. one of them struck him in the shoulder, right above his heart. >> reporter: his aunt had just left the apartment. >> he did recognize that there through the window. >> reporter: and who bravely called 911? >> the mother couldn't get the call out. and he told the grandmother, i will take the phone and call them myself. didn't drop a tear at all. >> reporter: you can see the broken glass where the stray bullet shattered the front window. police say there was a commotion near the liquor store when someone pulled out a gun and started firing. too often here.

i know because we live here. nothing new for us because we're used to it. >> reporter: jennifer rodriguez agrees and is calling on the mayor to do something about crime in the neighborhood. >> something common that's happening around that area. it's always happening. my sister doesn't have the funds to be anywhere else. >> reporter: the family affected twice by gun violence. they are related to the 12-year- old who was fatally shot in 2014. >> she was just such a little girl full of life. loved makeup. >> reporter: because of the incident, rosa parks boulevard has been dubbed by some as death avenue. her aunt tells us that he is recovering well in the hospital. he is a second grader who is on the honor roll, loves reading and he is surrounded by family. he is expected to be released today. meg baker, cbs 2 news. >> thank you. it is super tuesday. hundreds of delegates are up for grabs. >> today democrats and

head to the polls to pick their presidential nominee. diane macedo joins us with what is at stake. >> reporter: for the democrat, today's contest is about 800 delegates. on the republican side, they'll determine almost 600 delegates which is nearly half those needed for the nomination. and with these stake, the runners, the front-runners donald trump and hillary rodham clinton are hoping to erase any doubt that they'll be the party's nominee. >> good morning. >> good morning. >> reporter: trump supporters set out early in georgia hoping to sway any last-minute votes for super tuesday. >> we're going to win, win, win, win. >> reporter: a cnn poll shows trump dominating republican rivals with 49% of republican primary voters nationally. when you match them against the democrats, the new cnn poll predicts trump would lose to hillary rodham clinton and

he says that combination has the republican party very worried. >> they're terrified about what it would be like to have donald trump as the nominee. >> the donald trump is the nominee, hillary rodham clinton in all likelihood wins. >> reporter: that and the fact that he did not immediately disazero an endorsement from former kkk leader david duck. >> there's no place for david duke or the ku klux klan in the republican party or the conservative movement. >> reporter: on the democratic side -- >> virginia is clinton country. >> reporter: clinton country could stretch from virginia to texas today. she is leading by 20 points or more in polls of all the southern states holding primaries but sanders looks strong in colorado, minute money and oklahoma. and is also counting on vermont after casting his own super tuesday vote in his hometown of burlington. >> i am confident if there is a large voter turnout today across this country, we are going to do well.

struggling. >> reporter: the biggest prize of the day is texas with 155 republican delegates and 252 democratic delegates. hillary rodham clinton is currently projected to win that one for the democrats while ted cruz is expected to win it for the republicans. and as i was coming into the studio, he was casting his own vote in houston. polls in arkansas close at 7:30 p.m. local times. and the other states end at 7:00 p.m. >> thank you. new jersey transit service on the northeast corridor has resumed after a train struck and killed a person. authorities say an amtrak employee was hit on the tracks about 5:00 a.m. in north brunswick. passengers had to be transferred to another train. service from trenton to metro park was suspended for over an hour during the morning rush. ann an update now. a popular coach has been fired for a controversial fund raising campaign. he coached the varsity baseball team at babylon high school.

new video of a shooting inside a restaurant in queens. police are looking for the man seen opening fire at the restaurant on atlantic avenue in ozone park. this is february 20th. the pull bullets -- the bullets hit a man and woman. both are expected to be okay. investigators say the shooter drove off in a red sedan. a bronx woman is recovering this afternoon after police say two men posing as coned employees forced themselves into her apartment and assaulted her. >> janelle burrell spoke with

>> reporter: the 26-year-old mother whose identity we're concealing exhausted and distraught as she told us in spanish how the two men knocked on the door of her bronx apartment saying they worked for coned. when she opened up, police say the men both in their 20s forced themselves inside. >> [ speaking spanish ] >> reporter: that's when they grabbed me, covered my mouth, she says. they tied me to the table and then hit me in the head and mouth. but that's not all. investigators who spent hours collecting evidence from the building monday say the woman was home alone with her toddler daughter at the time. one of the men they say took a knife from the kitchen while the other used cord to bound the woman to a table and then police say he sexually assaulted her. the young woman terrorized and tortured and police say the suspects were only able to find $50 before running away. >> to see a child, to see what's happened to their mother, that's traumatizing.

neighbor who heard the woman ascaris and called police around 1:30 p.m. all of the residents on the floor say they are extremely concerned. none of them wanting to show their faces. especially because getting into the building they say is so easy. >> you mentioned that the doors are often not locked. >> yeah. they're 90% of the time, they're open. everybody can just come in and out. >> reporter: many now vowing to no longer answer their doors to strangers who knock. >> i'm not going to let anybody in my door. they have to kick it off. and they have to come good. it's scary but if i can defend myself, i'm going to do just that. >> reporter: police say both men were wearing blue latex gloves during the attack. they are canvassing the area hoping for surveillance video that will give them clear image of both men. from bronx, janelle burrell, cbs 2 news.

on average, maybe five degrees colder with the breeze feeling cooler but remember at noon we hadn't broken yet. we hilt the high of 61 later in the afternoon. this afternoon, we tack on maybe a degree or two but that's about it. 45 the normal. and we have topped that. 37 and 5 the extremes. sun sets at 5:48. proof of the sun, a composite radar and satellite. way. that's going to be rain tomorrow morning. it actually will warm up morning. showers. so if it's a late night, for work or fun, you could see a little bit of light rain. early morning hour, that's the rain. pockets of heavy rain too. and early commuters, you're really dealing with the of it. it seems to be getting out sooner which is fine. that will help the drop-off at school. and this, oh, boy, after thursday, here we go. yes, that's right, color coded for your viewing enjoyment.

and this is more of a morning event. an area of low pressure into friday midday. the model only doing maybe 2 to 4 and i think that is probably the extreme. so it's wednesday morning, wet. friday morning, potentially white. and then a relative quiet weekend. still technically winter. >> i guess so. >> not complaining. whole foods is issuing a nationwide recall on a brand of the company says the raw milk with listeria. it has sale by dates from january 20th. it comes after the chain issued a separate recall on a specialty cheese last month. well, here's stephanie day. >> reporter: hey, guys. today we want to talk about a cool herb and i mean cool in the sense that it's refreshing to the palette and that's dill.

see how it does that? when you run your hands through it, it should have the same effect. and you should smell dill right away as soon as you pick it up. when it comes to the color, this nice, cool, beautiful green all the way around. not too green and no yellowing. and then check the stems and make sure they still look nice and young and fresh and intact. when you bring dill home, wrap the tops in a paper towel and store it in the fridge. keep it nice and cold. when you use dill, put it in salads, yogurt or fun to use in salmon dishes and one of the cber. nice and refreshing, just like perfectly.
