beautiful day, but a chilly day, low 30s, heading for the low 40s out there. it is 29 right now in central park, 16 in monticello, 26 in the hamptons, 25 in belmar. as we look at the wind chills they are existent, feels like 24 in the city, feels like single digits in monticello, 7 is that wind chill right now. on the vortex satellite and radar picture, fortunately there are very few clouds out there. it will be a beautiful start to your day, just a chilly one as we roll into the afternoon, we'll start to see more clouds and warm to 42 degrees this afternoon. not quite a seasonal day. our normal high is actually 46 degrees. a few degrees below the northerly. winds will be subsiding throughout the day by this afternoon blowing about 5 to 10 miles per hour. yes we do have the beginning of a warming trend but it is going to be 25 plus degrees warmer by midweek next week.

coming up in just a bit. andrea and diane back to you. new this morning police arrested a long island man more than 5 years after his wife was murdered. in december 2010 we interviewed the husband who had reported his wife missing after he said they got into an argument. >> i just want you to come home, call, let your family know you are all right. please i love you, i miss you come home. he was seen here crying in 2010 as police pulled his wife, 31-year-old nicole tessa's body out of the woods near their home. now the 33-year-old has been charged with second degree murder in her death. it is not clear what new clues are in the case. a cabdriver remains in the hospital with critical injuries. >> after he was shot in the

police need to know who open fire. alana gold joins us from elmhurst hospital. >> reporter: he is in critical condition, the family by his side. the shooter is on the run and need to track down whoever did this. >> 37-year-old robert castillo struggling to recover after emergency surgery following a shooting in astoria queens. a neighbor recorded the chaotic aftermath outside the strip club on 34th street. he was here to pick up four men, the group got into an argument, and gunfire erupted. police tell us when the four men got into the vehicle, a bullet struck the cab and hit castillo in the head he was the

>> they were going around the corner over here to people that were leaving that's it got serious. detectives say he tried to drive off while bad by bleeding and slammed into park cars and a utility poll on 35th street and 37th avenue. >> i was like, how does this happen in my neighborhood? pretty scary. we're hoping he is going to pull through, we don't know at this point. >> fernando, a spokesperson for many of the drivers in the city, says castillo made his living at a driver but not licensed and suv was not registered. >> if it would have been in a licenseed, he would have been in the same condition. >> now they are tracking down receipts to track down whoever open fire. this morning there are so many questions about who could be responsible.

. many are calling this a shocking discovery decades after the oj simpson case. the lapd is testing a knife discovered on the property. jessica schneider reports. we the jury find the defendant not guilty. it was the acquitel that left the double murder unsolved, but a new wrinkle in the homicide investigation. >> the lapd announcing a knife has been handed over to them. allegedly found during the demolition of oj simpson's estate in 1998, police say a construction worker found the knife and gave it to a

the person that we received this knife from is a retired lapd officer who retired pack in the late 90 east. the retired cop reportedly kept the knife and didn't tell authorities until about a month ago. that lengthy time lapse is leading many to question whether the finding is legit or whether it has any connection to oj simpson. marsha clark prosecuted the case, she is urging caution. >> it might be a hoax, somebody who planted it and pretended to find it. simpson was acquitted in 1995 but ended up convicted for a las vegas armed robbery in 2008. he is now serving 30 years behind bars. the murder case has gained new attention recently with the release of a mini series. no murder weapon was found. but this knife will be tested for dna. no matter the outcome, simpson can't be tried again.

simpson with the homicides he's been charged with because he is acquitted. the knife is a small utility buck knife, the medical examiner said a larger knife was used but the investigation into this knife does continue police haven't released anything official. corroded and led-laced pipes are finally being replaced in flint michigan. a pipe was removed and replaced with a popper pipe, led has contaminated flint's drinking water and elevated led levels were found in children up to 15,000 pipes must be replaced that could take a year. mike lee of utah is holding up by legislation to address the water crisis, the governor has not asked for federal help and the state does not need it.

are temperatures nearing the 70s. we'll check in with vanessa murdock's forecast, cbs 2 news saturday morning this morning starts right now. live from studio 46. morning. good morning it is 6:31 on this saturday march fifth. today's top stories are straight ahead but first meteorologist vanessa murdock is here with a look at the forecast. stunning skies, it is deceiving today. let's take a look at how beautiful this picture is. it will make your feel warm this morning, even though wind chills for some are down into the single digits but my goodness. what a gorgeous way to start off the weekend. temperatures right now, 20s for the most part, but note the teens in liberty, it is 28 in babylon, 28 in linden as well.

but sun rise, beautiful blue skies out there this morning looking lovely to start but temperatures are in the 20s. do not let that sunshine deceive you, let's take you live outside show you this picture because this will make you feel warm even though those temperatures are not quite there. it is 29 degrees north, northwest winds at 20 miles per hour. head loins staying chilly today a few flakes into early tomorrow morning and a big warm up on the way highs of 70 degrees by midweek, 42, normal is 46. so 4 degrees below the norm. sunset at 5:52. the reason i highlight that is because next sunday it is time to spring forward yes we will lose an hour of sleep, sunset will be at 7:01 in the evening and i prefer to have that daylight in the evening.

temperatures will climb 10 to 25 degrees above normal with record warmth anticipated on wednesday. we're forecasting a high right now of 70 on wednesday, the record stands right now at 69 degrees. so we are anticipating record warmth then. today, not record warmth a little bit below where we should be 42 degrees, clouds thicken throughout the day winds settle. 42 will feel like 40 over night tonight increasing clouds 32 degrees, 20s in the suburbs a little bit of snow moving on in. snow will wrap up tomorrow morning again a dusting to an inch in some spots 46 tomorrow afternoon with clearing skies. monday, 10 degrees warmer than that, 56 degrees, a little bit of sun and cloud activity. tuesday it is 65. i actually think that's my preferred day because we'll see mostly sunny skies i know it will be 70.
