-- at the forecast first. >> there is a little bit of snow to the west of the city. making its way toward us. a little bit of snow. periods of light snow throughout the early morning hours. a dusting for some. maybe a half inch west of the city. otherwise, it will be a beautiful end to the weekend. as the skies clear this afternoon. let's take a look. on the vortex satellite and radar picture. snow showers pushing through. midmorning, they are out of here. the heavier stuff to the west of the city right now. mount olive, getting a moderate snow. that is pretty much it. northwest of the city, the biggest amount of snow. sweeping to the southeast. started, 25. as we go through sunday, we 40s. very close to seasonable this afternoon.

by 3:00 this afternoon, 45 and mostly sunny. the windchill, not a big issue. wind on the calm side. the full forecast is coming up. we will talk about taking these temperatures 20 up to 25 today. back to you. firefighters battled a major fat -- fire in brooklyn overnight after flames broke out at a commercial building. the fire began on blake street around 1:00 this morning. it is now completely out. fire officials say nobody was inside at the time. police say a 36 euros man has been arrested in connection with a car explosion in the bronx. he had two aerosol cans and one ignited inside of a moving car. the 24-year-old driver and his passenger were not injured.

attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon and arson. campaign 2016, the presidential hopefuls are gaining steam after voters went to the polls in five states on super saturday. donald trump and ted cruz both split wins last night. donald trump still leading the delegate count with 374. >> bernie sanders pick up two wins to hillary's one. she is still ahead with 1100 delegates. we have more on the super saturday races from washington. >> ted cruz kicked off super saturday with big wins in kansas and maine. >> super tuesday was a phenomenal night where we won victories all over the country. and today, on super saturday, doing the same thing. >> donald trump took louisiana and kentucky. >> i want to thank the people of louisiana and kentucky. i want to congratulate ted cruz on maine and kansas.

that and about yesterday's races. a community is preparing to say goodbye to a new jersey child killed in a hit and run. >> a funeral will be held for her. she died in west new york on her way to school. we're live with the details. >> the death has had such a dramatic impact on this community. later today, friends and family will say a final goodbye. for the last week, dozens of people have been stopping by the intersection where she was killed. they set up this giant memorial. they are paying respects. they question how something like this could even happen. >> the 7-year-old will will be root -- laid to rest today. her loved ones preparing to say their final goodbyes. her grieving father spoke to us with help from a translator sending us a message to the driver accused of hitting her and leaving the scene.

i just ask if he has a family, to step in our choose. >> surveillance cameras caught this black -- black suv right before it hit her and her mother mother. police say seconds later, the driver gets out of the vehicle, looks at her lifeless body on the ground, gets back in his vehicle and speeds away. we talked to her mother still recovering from the impact and stunned by the outcome. in spanish, she told us the driver looked at her daughter, said a curse word and left without apologizing. police have identified the driver as fabian rodriguez. they told us hours after the hit and run, his girlfriend reported that the suv was stolen, trying to cover up the crime. both are now under arrest and appeared in court when he pleaded not guilty. neighbors and witnesses are alarmed. >> how can you do that to a little girl? it is not human. >> the community and shayla

accountable. >> i'm heartbroken. i lost my daughter. >> her parents are certainly dealing with unimaginable grief. the funeral for shayla pichardo is open to the public. it is tonight from 7:00 until 9:00 in jersey city. live in west new york, new jersey this morning, cbs2 news. students in westchester county are mourning the loss of a non- -- nun. flowers were placed in honor of sister barbarba heil. she taught mathematics and latin since the school first opened in 1966. the 80-year-old was in a honda friday when state police say the driver of a suzuki crossed the centerline on route six and hit her vehicle. last night, students dedicated their musical -- musical production of cinderella in her memory. she handstitched many of their costumes. leaders say the community is devastated by her loss. >> sister barbarba heil -- you have to remember, just here at kennedy, was a woman of faith that influenced young people for 50 years. >> her funeral will be held thursday morning. police on long island say burglar armed with a blowtorch was caught on camera breaking into a cell phone store. nassau county police say the man spent about one hour trying to burn a hole through the door at the at&t store. the double paneled metal prevented him from getting in. investigators say he then broke off -- broke into the nail salon next door. but that didn't work either. eventually, the man kicked in the window at the cell phone store. >> this is the most brazen act to get into the store that i have seen. the glass doors and the metal doors will not hold these guys back. >> nassau county police say he made off with cell phones, i pads. the attorney for the

and it could be the final snowfall of winter. could be. normally, any year we just have over 22 inches. last year, nearly double that. almost 46. this year, over 30 inches. most of that fell in just one day. when we got almost 27 inches for the blizzard of 2016. so we could see a little bit more today. it will be passing by. it is pretty weak. this little batch -- i suspect will leave about a half inch on its journey to the south. out of here by midmorning. skies begin to clear. high-pressure will be taking hold. this little bit of snow -- courtesy of low pressure to the south -- high-pressure will begin migrating east.

and it's completely anonymous. a minnesota parking lot has gone to the dogs after a golden lab retriever tried to learn a new trick. the dog somehow put this semi truck into gear after a driver left idling at a gas station. the truck rolled through a parking lot, across the street and over a curb before smashing into a tree and parked car. amazingly no humans or dogs were hurt. >> he has a guilty look on his face. the brooklyn chef psychedelic bagels are selling out and drawing a bit of a cult following. >> we report from williamsburg. >> new york bagels are world- famous. >> that is why this guy is the limit for the bagel store

it is open to the public. all week, dozens of people have been stopping by this intersection where she was killed. you can see a man is looking at this giant memorial as we speak. people have been stopping by with flowers and stuffed animals and balloons. they are trying to give support to her family. as you can imagine, her family is in disbelief. they describe her as a beautiful little girl who was always smiling. >> 7-year-old shayla pichardo will be laid to rest this week. or loved ones preparing to say final goodbyes. >> a grieving father spoke to us with help from a translator sending a message to the driver accused of hitting her on her way to school and leaving the scene. >> i hold no anger toward him. i ask if he has a family, to step into our shoes. >> surveillance cameras captured this black suv right before it hit them crossing the intersection at 61 street. seconds later, the driver gets

lifeless body, get back into his vehicle and speeds away. we talked to her mother, still recovering from the impact and stunned by the outcome. in spanish, she told us the driver looked at her daughter, said a curse word and left without apologizing. police identified the driver as 23-year-old fabian red we guess. they tell us, hours after the hit and run, his girlfriend, reported that the suv was stolen, trying to cover up the crime. both are now under arrest and appeared in court where they neighbors and witnesses are alarm. >> how can you do that to a little girl like that? and leave it behind? it is not human. >> the community and the family of shayla pichardo outraged and devastated. they want the suspects held >> i'm heartbroken. i lost my daughter. >> here is another look at pichardo. perfect -- parents are

the visitation is tonight. the funeral is tomorrow morning. live in western new york, new jersey this morning, cbs2 news. emotions ran high at a vigil for a buffalo state college student from brooklyn. >> people released balloons in memory of him yesterday. he died last month in a possible fraternity hazing incident. he was pledging with a fraternity at the time. >> [ crying ] >> very friendly, loving and respectful. we will all miss him. >> toxicology results that could answer certain key questions about what happened are not back yet. the fraternity has been suspended. counselors will be on hand today at a new jersey high school after the death of a student there. sixteen-year-old conor barbero died friday night after crashing his atv.

and flowers has been set up to honor the belvidere high school junior who played basketball and soccer. counselors will be available tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. police have released surveillance video of the man who they say tried to shoot a woman while her children were nearby. nypd says just after 4:00 yesterday afternoon, the woman was walking up the stairs of her apartment building with her two kids when a man approached them from behind and tried try to shooter. but police say the gun jammed. the woman and her kids ran into the apartment and west -- locked the door. investigators say the man been shot at the door several times before taking off. luckily nobody was hurt. the clock is ticking on a strike. yesterday hundreds of workers rallied for a new contract. we report on their calls for change. >> after five years after not having a contract or a raise, new jersey transit rail workers appear to have had enough.

here is the deal. tomorrow, 50s. tuesday, 60s. seventy, on wednesday. not everybody will see that wednesday. but in the city and points inland, we do expect 70 degrees wednesday. the last time we actually reached the 70s was on christmas eve when we topped out at 72 degrees. it would be record warm for this week. on the vortex satellite radar picture, here it is. that blob of snow pushing through. it is like, to moderate at most. and it is moving off to the southeast. so many will not even get -- even a glimpse of snow this morning. but there is always more opportunity for snow. spring is not even here yet officially. and we have had storms and spring before as well. what is happening today. low-pressure exiting. high-pressure taking over. the skies will be gradually clearing.
