what can you tell us? >> reporter: there were two people on board. neither were injured. before 11:00 the plane made around emergency landing on the beach feet from the water's edge. the plane landed upright. investigators are on the scene trying to determine what the issues were and how to secure this plane. again, two people were on board. neither were injured. the plane itself is registered at a farmingdale republic airport. it is not known what the flight path of the plane was. again, two people on board at the time the emergency landing happened. neither of them were injuried in the incident. live in chopper 2 jim smith cbs2 news. >> thank you very much. we are less than two days from the strike dead line for new jersey transit rail workers. union leader and new jersey transit are meeting at this hour for more talks.

strike? >> reporter: new jersey transit's chief negotiator seems to think today is the day a deal will be reached. he walked in the meeting at 10:00 a.m. and said he is addiment enough is on the table that they are close enough in talks that a contract will be signed. >> there is no reasonable -- reason why this can't close today. >> reporter: the new jersey transit negotiator is heading into another round of face-to- face talks with the rail unions this morning. >> we this talked everything through. we know what the differences are between us. it is time to close the differences. lift the threat of strike off the minds of customers and move on. >> reporter: [ no audio ]. >> no comment. are you hopeful this will get done? >> not right now. >> reporter: many union members left thursday's negotiations

impasse. they have been working without a new contract since 2011. and are fighting for better health benefits and wage increases as part of a new deal. they have said they are doing all they can to avoid a strike but with the sunday 12:01 a.m. deadline inching closer commuters are getting increasingly worried how will they get to work? >> i'm so scared. i don't want them to go on strike. >> reporter: 105,000 rely on new jersey transit trains daily. agency's contingency plan only accommodates 40,000 riders. >> it is rough. a lot of people will have to take personal days and they can not afford it. >> reporter: the union's brusque tone may be strategy. he is confident an agreement is near. >> i have every expectation they'll meet us in the middle and we'll announce the happy news this is over. >> this should get done now. let's get it done today!

he expects these talks to go late into the night and into the weekend. he says they are close enough and that likely won't be the case. commuters are hoping that will not be the case. and that a strike will be averted. >> thank you very much. new information in a crash that killed two teenagers walking on a sidewalk in union city, new jersey. additional charges of aggravated manslaughter have been filed against the unlicensed driver. toxicology reports show eric patterson was high on pcp's. the 23-year-old was speeding when he jumped the curb saturday killing the two teenagers. a third teenager was critically injured. police on long island are trying to figure out how a handcuffed suspect was able to steal a free port police cruiser leaving a path of

we have the report from nassau county. >> reporter: this totaled red car is a reminder of what neighbors describe as a terrifying night on babylon road. >> we heard the sirens, the rumbling of the car and the crash. we looked out the window and everybody had their guns drawn. we got on the floor. >> reporter: a free port police parked cars. officer. nassau police say a handcuffed suspect, 36-year-old andrew howard was behind the wheel. free port police pulled him over and learned he had outstanding warrants so they put him in the backseat. sources say he was able to open the plexy glass cage and get in front while police were outside talking to his passengers. suspect went on a two-mile joyride in the police cruiser finally ramming into the parked

block that dead ends into lake view elementary school. neighbors were stunned. >> we heard a big bang. it was really crazy. >> as we looked out the windows we saw a guy being pulled from a police cruiser. which was crazy. >> reporter: police were behind the driver and arrested him immediately. the damage here was done leaving several cars totaled. >> this is a station car. no collision or nothing on it. it is wrecked. i am not going to get nothing unless i sue shreveport. who knows. >> reporter: as for this red car it is a rental belonging to a friend staying with the family here. she just arrived an hour before the crash. >> the suspect was wanted for larcenies and free port's license plate readers identified him. an update a queens man has been charged with attempted

teenager in front of an on- coming 7 train last week. the 38-year-old is the man on the surveillance video running from the roosevelt avenue subway station. 15-year-old girl survived by squeezing between the platform and the train's wheels. she has minor injuries. friends and family are gathering for the funeral of former first lady nancy reagan at the president ronald reagan library. guest list includes hollywood celebrities, politicians and every living first lady. chris martinez has more from california. >> reporter: journalists from around the world are setting up outside of the reagan presidential library where a long list of dignitaries and celebrities will attend the private funeral of nancy reagan. 5500 people paid their respects at the viewing for the former first lady. >> i had to show my respect. >> reporter: people who knew

serve life in prison for killing his wife. but was evidence hidden that could make him a free man? his new lawyers say the prosecutor lied, cheated and broke the rules. >> we the jury find the defendant david mark temple guilty of murder. >> reporter: david temple is serving life for the 1999 murder of his wife, belinda, who was shot to death in their home. she was eight months pregnant. >> she was given a life sentence. he is behind bars and that's where he deserves to be. >> who is david temple? said no to. >> reporter: but temple was convicted without any hard evidence linking him to the crime. >> there is no evidence that points towards me because i did not kill my wife. >> reporter: in 2012 d.a. investigator steve clapper was case.

question everything. >> do you believe david temple is an innocent man? >> i believe he did not kill his wife. >> reporter: clapper discovered evidence that he thought pointed to another suspect in the old police reports. attorneys say what clapper unearthed was critical information. never before seen by the defense. >> it was hidden. >> who hid it? >> the d.a. and she hid it well. >> reporter: the prosecutor insists temple's trial attorney got everything he was entitled to get when he was entitled to get it. >> eventually everybody will understand that the truth is what happened in that courtroom and it will all finally be over with. >> richard is joining us with more. >> reporter: he is a neighborhood teenager who people said had a beef with case.
