area after a soggy start to the workweek, and we are tracking more changes for this afternoon. >> elise finch is in for john today with look at the forecast. >> you have been up a long time, so you know the rain was a little more significant earlier in the day. now look at what we've got. we were talking earlier about the rain that was coming. now we're looking at the back edge of it. you can see a lot of our western suburbs, all but done with the rain. still some residual lingering showers. we're not completely done. the bigger picture shows you what's going on here. here's the area of low pressure, and you can see most us. a little wrap around shower activity still a possibility. so we'll still be in the rain for the next couple of hours. it's been dry this month. we're nearly 3 inches below where we should be for march, so we need the rain and we've added about a 1/3 of an inch to the rain bucket, could get a little bit more but not much. the next issue, the wind.

advisories going into effect across the area with winds gusting. today, tomorrow, and i'll have more in the full forecast. a search is on for a suspect targeting the elder limb. the violent robbery -- elderly. the violent robberies left them bruised and scared. >> reporter: the latest victims says she will be taking precautions that she never thought she would have to, the next time she gets gets outside. this 83-year-old describes this scary moment, this man caught on surveillance camera inside her ocean building, attacked. >> i guess i got socked. i don't remember much. >> reporter: vince kendall's son lives next door and got a call from police saying the suspect followed his mother inside and knocked on the door. >> when she opened the door, he slammed her in the face, and knocked her down and broke her nose.

of the suspect leaving the scene, he sayings he's grateful it wasn't worse. >> if he's that big or strong, he could have killed her. >> reporter: vince kendall is just the latest victim in a string of violent armed robberies. police say what happened to her follows the suspect's pattern, preying mostly on elderly women entering their homes. he shows a gun or knife and problems them and anyone else who might be around. he also is suspected of robbing two middle aged men. earlier this month, police say 91-year-old elizabeth was choked and robbed at gunpoint by the same man. the suspect described as 40 to 60 years old, investigators believe the man first struck in ridgewood queens robbing a 76- year-old woman and an 87-year- old man inside their home. he then targeted neighborhoods

committing three armed robberies this month, a pattern his victims want to see come to an end. >> lead him to a jail cell and put him in there and let him sit for a while. they should be off the streets attacking people. >> reporter: the nypd is offering a $3500 reward for information that leads to this man's arrest. live in the kensington section, cbs 2 news. a gunman on the loose after shooting a cab driver in the face. we have more on the driver's struggle to survive in east orange. >> he showed up to the call, a few minutes later gets shot. >> reporter: stunned coworkers of elidio collins was shot in the face around 3:00 in the morning after responding to a call for a pickup here. his colleagues tell us what happened next is truly remarkable.

drive his taxi from davis place three blocks to the east orange police station on south munn street where we're told he police. >> he consciously drove himself to the precinct. >> reporter: how did he do that? >> i don't know. it's a miracle. everybody here is just astonished by what happened. >> reporter: elidio colin is married, a father of four. we're told he is now in surgery at a hospital in newark. i spoke to his distraught twin brother a short time ago. police have yet to reveal more details about the shooting or any suspects. this in the wake of the victim's remarkable ride to stay alive. police arrested a spiderman character in times square accusing him of kicking a tourist. it's the latest incident involving costumed characters. and as janelle burrell reports

children. as cbs 2 news reports, the terror attack induces fear among the christian minority. >> the funerals began early in the city of lahore. a family gathered to bury an 11- year-old boy. he was one of at least 70 killed at a playground suicide blast on easter sunday. the attack targeted the city's christian. among the dead, many muslims, too. 300 wounded were rushed to local hospitals. most were women and children, some as young as 2 years old. police continue to sift through evidence of the blast sites, pope francis condemned the attack monday. he called it a massacre of innocence and a vile and senseless crime. the extremist group responsible

of lahore's church last year. cbs news, london. the taliban group claiming responsibility has publicly supported isis. in belgium, a suspect arrested in connection with the terror attacks has been released after an investigation. prosecutors say there was no evidence as a man identified as faco c. was involved. he was wrongly identified with this man, seen walking with two suicide bombers just before the blast at brussels airport last tuesday. investigators are looking for this person. meantime, three more people are facing terrorism charges after a weekend of raids across europe. sentencing today for a man convicted of the attempted murder of a suffolk county police department. sheldon luffton will spend 55 years to life in prison. mark collins was shot. collins was nearly killed and placed in a medically induced coma during his recovery. new jersey senate president

lawmakers will unveil a plan to test the water in all new jersey schools. earlier in month, officials discovered elevated lead levels in 30 new york schools. developing the plan for lead testing along with the newark school district. a new jersey hospital will announce a new plan to cut down on drug abuse. st. peters regional medical center in patterson is unveiling opiate protocols in the emergency room. the goal is to treat most patients without powerful pain medicines. the hospital started a trial run in january, and doctors say 75% of the 300 patients that have gone through the program did not need the drugs. addiction to prescription opioids has been partly blamed for the heroin epidemic in some northbound lane suburbs. a brook -- some of the brooklyn suburbs. a brooklyn postal worker talks about getting arrested delivering packages. >> i thought putting on a

>> never arrested. never received a summons. i was extremely terrified. i was afraid if i didn't comply, something would happen to me. >> reporter: grays was frisked and put in the unmarked patrol car. that's when the video ends. >> and on the way to the precinct, how was that ride? >> i was told to shut up numerous times. they rear ended a car, and i wound up from the backseat, banging my left shoulder onto the driver's seat, and banged my face into the armrest. >> if it could happen to the mailman, it can happen to anyone in the community. >> reporter: brooklyn borough president, released the video to the public. >> those officers were extremely aggressive, and i believe that they wanted him to resist. he was smart enough not to resist, and i believe because of that, he's sitting here today, today telling the story. >> as they were getting fairly close, they were surrounded me, and one grabbed my arm. i told him, you know, my wife is a cop.

>> we are turning things around. things are starting to clear up because we are watching the system kind of race out of here. some folks are seeing dryer conditions the rest of us will see that as well. let's go ahead and check with some of our cbs2 weather watchers. we do have mild temperatures in spite of the rain and clouds. as we head to the jersey shore. this is maureen in neptune city. she says it's 52 degrees where she is. her comment, the rain stopped, and looks like the sun is coming out. we were all in need of the water. she says already the sun is coming out and temperatures rising nicely. this is claire in yonkers, 46 degrees where she is. soft steady rain fell all morning with minimal winds at this point. actually, so nice. i'm glad you guys are finding a way to enjoy the rain. we certainly couldn't do anything about it. as we take this particular look, the clouds, fog, still an issue, rain drops on the lens there. we have light rain in the city. 45 degrees. wind right now are variable at

take a look, these are the temperatures around the tristate area right now. pretty mild. we've got 43 in liberty. 44 for bedford. 50s, however, 54 for free holt. 54 for spring lake. we have some mild temperatures. i mentioned that rain kind of racing out of here. here's your vortex satellite and radar. can still see the cloud cover, but most of the rain is really pushing off, and it's moving rather rapidly. so over the next couple of hours, the bulk of this rain will be gone. now that doesn't mean you won't still see drizzle or light showers. we could see a little bit of lingering, trailing showers here, and we could get a little bit of wrap around moisture. over the next couple of hours, still lingering showers, but most of the rain, the bulk is gone. next up, we get concerned with the wind. starting at 2:00, wind advisories start to be in effect across the tristate area, and we start adding locations as we head throughout the afternoon. these wind advisories stay in effect through tomorrow afternoon. this is the reason why your
