coverage against with vanessa murdock. some people seeing snow? >> yes. for some it's stacked up a little bit. 1-2 inches is the general sum mainly north of the city. now we are seeing snowfall across long island as well. so we knew this was coming, but it will be short lived. but the winds will persist. so let's start off with the vortex satellite and radar picture so you can see just how quickly this system is making its move. but, yeah, mostly light across reinvigorating. snow falling there. very little snow left north of the city at this point in time. that will be the trend. partially clearing skies. winds remaining powerful through at least the morning hours. we have visibilities reduced greatly in babylon down to half a mile to hamptons down to one and a third. that is a result of falling and blowing snow, folks. it is going to be windy and cold today. our current feels like

feels like 19 in quag. partly sunny skies by 10:00 a.m. 42 degrees the high in the city. feels like 30. a high-wind warning until 6 p.m. tonight. it is possible we will have the occasional gusty as high as 60 miles per hour. so, yes, if you haven't already tied down that lawn furniture, you want to do so now. we will talk about more opportunities for snow in the next seven days coming up in my full forecast. back you to. >> we really don't need this. we really don't. >> no, we don't. i like to talk about it. >> you guys are always in business, it seems. >> it is what it is this morning, right? oh, boy. >> some residents waking one serious damage on their lawns. >> magdalena doris joins us live from rariton, new jersey, where it's really windy there this morning as well. >> reporter: that's right. andrea and dick, the damage in rariton has been done, as you can see. the winds whipping up overnight

home and many homes along the block. these winds whipping up against the homes, crashing a window, taking down a basketball poll -- or a basketball hoop, i should say, and even taking down some poles on fences. a rariton, new jersey gusty up to 60 miles per hour has damaged homes. jose rodriguez has been up all night. he says he doesn't know what to do after high winds knocked the window out of his son's room sending a television crashing from the second floor to the ground. ripping down fences, sending outdoor furniture flying. when he opened his front door, he was knocked over by wind gusts. >> i seen everything in my living room twirling around. my lamp broke. i was scared about getting on. that's what i first saw, you know, what had happened. >> reporter: storms moved through woodland park, new jersey, flashes of lightning and a downpour of hail blanked

the hail the size of pennies. the dangerous winds spread through the area uprooting trees in newark, new jersey on palm street a large tree trunk crashed to the ground barely missing a parked minivan. on south orange avenue in newark police used chainsaws to clear fallen limits and barges broken by high winds -- branches broke bin high wands. back here live, the roof of this home is missing shingles because of these severe whipping winds as well. just on this block alone in rariton, there have been thousands of dollars worth of damage caused by these severe winds. of course, we are still under that severe wind watch here. live in rariton, new jersey, magdalena doris, cbs2 news. >> at least we are seeing the sun for the first time this morning. stay bundled up out there. >> it's not just here. chicago got a coating of snow through saturday. one man tried to quickly put on his gloves. the temperatures dipped into the 20s.

the storm sent bricks off a roof and flying into the area. and in indiana power lines traffic lights and trees toppled during the store. at one point 1600 homes were without power. you can keep track of the forecast any time with the cbs2 new york weather app. check live radar and send us your weather pictures and video. >> times square is back to normal this morning after a suspicious truck forced police to evacuate the area. last night for a time the crossroads of the world was empty until investigators determined there was no threat. cbs2's brian coneybeare has more from times square. >> reporter: police had to clear out thousands of people from times square just before 8:00 on a busy saturday night. they evacuated the entire area. even bringing in barricades to keep people a safe distance away from this beat up white box truck that is found abandoned on 46th street near broadway right outside of two major theaters and the marriott marquee hotel.

were in the ig nis. inside a set of suspicious looking wires on the front seat and at least one gas can in the gab. the american eagle outfitters store and other businesses were locked down as a precaution. >> they closed the store. like now we went into the back. we couldn't go outside or on the floor. it was crazy. >> reporter: the evacuation an eerie sight. in this video from earth cam, times square looks like you probably have never seen it. the streets completely empty. even broadway's hottest musical hamilton was affected by the scare. the audience was rushed to the basement by police. robin pruitt's son was there. >> he texted me and said they were evacuating the theater and he was told that there was a bomb threat. >> reporter: police swarmed the suspicious truck and the bomb squad determined there was no threat. the unidentified driver was eventually located, handcuffed and taken into custody for questioning.

of the brussels terror attacks reminded many of 9/11 and the 2010 failed terrorist car bombing in times square that was thwarted by some quick thinking street vendors. >> it's always eerie when something scary like that happens. it was very eerie here thinking about that. >> reporter: and no word yet on whether that driver will face any charges. another evacuation. this time at the port authority bus terminal. this was the scene yesterday afternoon. sources tell cbs2 a suspicious package was found in the south wing around 2:00. port authority police gave the all-clear here about an hour and a half later. no word yet on what was inside the package. police also checked out a suspicious car that was abandoned with the door open on the upper levels of the terminal. >> new this morning an investigation underway on long island after a man's body was found. suffolk county police say a dog walker found the body yesterday afternoon in a wooded area

store on middle country road. investigators say 26-year-old alexander encorvia had been shot to death. he hasn't been seen since tuesday morning and was reported missing thursday. >> police released new video of a slashing in the bronx they say started with a fight over cereal. investigators say a man tried to leave the pioneer store friday without paying for a box of fruity pebbles. the store manager stopped him and police say the man slashed him on the cheek with a small knife. the suspect took off. the worker was not seriously hurt. >> happening today brussels airport partially reopens. nearly two weeks after terror attacks that left 32 people dead. plea brussels airlines flights are scheduled to depart for european destinations today. the airport has been closed since march 22nd when suicide bombers attacked the airport and a metro station. full passenger service is expected to restored by the end of june or the beginning of july. >> and police in brussels

protesters at a memorial site for the victims of the deadly terror attacks. they were chanting on the steps of the square in a demonstration against islam phobia. the city band protest following an incident last week where a group of right wing protesters disrupted a peaceful gathering. >> the time now is 7:09. police make an arrest in a violent robbery involving a 103-year-old woman. >> i am going to go out. this is not going to keep me from going out. >> where the officers found the suspect and the one thing she is accused of stealing that the elderly victim misses the most. >> plus, a woman killed when a plane crash lands on a busy freeway. the bizarre twist involving the same highway and the same plane from 16 years ago. >> it's the tar heels and the wildcats. they are the last two dancing. their sweeping victories during yesterday's final four match-ups. >> first here is vanessa murdock with another check on the forecast. >> all right. snow falling heavily right now

later this morning on "face the nation" john dickerson goes one on one with donald trump. we will get a preview from john at 8:00. >> one person has died after a small plane crash landed on a southern california freeway. the plane plowed into the back of a car stopped on the side of the road after it crashed on its belly yesterday morning. a woman inside the car was killed. the driver and two others were injured. the pilot and his passenger were also hurt. turns out that same plane made headlines back in 2000 when it safely landed on the same roadway. major league catcher matt nokes, who owned the plane at the time, had been at the controls. the crash is now under federal investigation. >> all right. just so we go on the record here, today is opening day. >> it is opening day. >> opening day. opening night. there is a team playing baseball. not in the bronx, but in -- >> kansas city tonight. >> kansas city tonight. >> little repeat of the end of last season. >> mets looking to get even. they are not going to get even with last year.

at least the yankees are tomorrow? >> the yankees are tomorrow. i mean, it's going to be around 50. with rain. so, i mean, not the best day here at home tomorrow either. but today is certainly worse. >> yeah. >> well, hopefully, luckily they are in kansas city. so hopefully the weather is there. >> i will give a check. i have been focused in the northeast. i will promise to check kansas city and bring you that very shortly. live outside right now let's show you what's happening across the city skyline. it is beautiful, but it is windy out there right now. 37 degrees. skies are clearing. west-northwest winds at 33 miles per hour. that is not the gusts. that is the sustained wind this morning. we have a high-wind warning in effect until this evening. so here are the headlines. the snow showers moving through will be wrapping up by 10:00 a.m. it is snowing heavily on long island right now. much colder today. we are talking highs only in the 30s and 40s. it will feel like the teens and 20s for the most part.

right now this is a look at the wind gusts. we are gusting to 39 in belmar. 48 the gusty in white plains as well as greenwich. this will be the trend through the mid-morning hours and then the winds will start to subside through the afternoon. vortex satellite and radar picture. we have an area of low pressure that is making a rapid exit off the east end of long island. maybe a few straggling snow showers as we go through mid-morning. otherwise, passing clouds today, windy and so much colder than it was yesterday. so this is system number one. that's what's going on out. what's rolling on in for tomorrow, this area of low pressure just to the west of the great lakes region will be following essentially the same path as the storm system we are dealing with right now and we are talking snow to the north of the city tomorrow morning. rain for the rest. let's go through the forecast hour by hour. look at this. by 10:00 a.m. we are out of here with that wet weather. skies are partially clearing. don't think it's going to be crystal clear at any point today.

early tomorrow morning those clouds do thicken. we have snow north of the city as you make that morning commute. we are going to say around that i-84 line. rain elsewhere. and then as we go through the day it kind of holds steady with that path. we are looking at rain tomorrow. could be heavy at times during the drive home and as far as accumulations go well north in the city, we could see another 1-3 inches fall there. as we go into tuesday, skies are bright, but tuesday will be very brisk, breezy with highs only in the low 40s. today it will be 42 degrees. that's it. but with those howling winds, 25 to 35 miles per hour gusting maybe 50 to 60, it's going to feel like the 20s and teens out there. overnight the winds will settle. 34 degrees. then snow starts to develop as we make our way into the early morning hours. remember for the city points east and south it will be an all rain event. 50 tomorrow is the high for the opening day forecast.

on facebook you can get away with a slightly less professional picture, but nothing inappropriate. >> what about stuff like e- mail. you have two or three. >> your e-mail address should look professional. make a professional presentation no matter what you do. anybody can create a resume and they tend to look alike. that's why they go to social media. you want your e-mail address to match your name. it shouldn't be something like cutie pie. not that i think you're using cutie pie. >> right. >> you want to be professional. >> and one thing we tell our kids, which is don't put the stupid party pictures on facebook where you're at your college dorm. what do you say to adults? >> they surveyed hiring managers. there was a recent survey and they found 50% of people had put salacious pictures and disqualified themselves. >> what about other things like politics? i imagine stay away? >> yeah. this is one of those things

show you that snow is still falling out there. thankfully, it is making a exit. of long island. if you have travel plans, please be cautious on the roadways. the rest of the day skies are going to clear, but the winds are being to persist. gusts right knew 39 miles per 48 in greenwich. a 51-mile-per-hour gusty at jfk earlier this morning. so as we go through the day, the winds will slowly subside b you the wind chills will remain cold. it feels like 27 right now in the city in monticello feeling like 10. as we go through the day today here's the deal. it is not going to feel that much better that afternoon. it's going to feel like 29 by 4:00 this afternoon in the city. feeling like 14 in monticello we will have partly sunny skies and again the winds slowly subside,

electricity. pseg in long island is reporting more than 3300 outages. >> police are searching for a man they say exposed himself on a train in bronx. it happened 2:40 in the afternoon. the suspect acted in front of an 18-year-old woman before she exited the train on wood lock avenue. >> police say the woman who brutally robbed a 103-year-old in the bronx is off the streets and in custody. cbs2's dave carlin reports from co-op city where the victim says she will not let this attack get her down. >> reporter: louise signore is tougher than she looks. surviving a brutal robbery, it left her battered and sore. >> my head, my hands, my hand, my back, my neck. >> reporter: the senior has lived here 45 years. she is under 5' tall and she says she is legally blind and hard-of-hearing and, therefore, must have appeared to be an easy

police say this woman in handcuffs, 53-year-old sharon mcneil, followed signore into her building, got into the elevator with her, and then in the hallway on the eighth floor assaulted and robbed her. a break for police in this case was in security camera video of the suspect. she allegedly stole two premade meals signore picked up at a senior center and other purse. >> they are desperate. they took about $35. i have two purses. two separate purses. >> reporter: also in that stolen purse a magnifying there is a for reading and some bingo cards. and that's the loss that seems to bother signore the most. >> that's what i miss. my bingo. >> reporter: mcneil is charged with robbery, assault, and harassment. signore's neighbors in this bellamy loop building say they will continue to check on her to make sure she is comfortable, safe and fed. >> she is a nice, sweet woman. since i work here, i know her. she is very nice. and i know a lot of people are going to look at her and get

so, yes, snow has fallen. still falling across long island. little batches north of the city. but live outside over the city skyline is looking awfully pretty right now. a beautiful shot there. blue skies, some clouds. 37 degrees. west winds at 18. gusting to 32. what to expect from the forecast? turning partly sunny. we are already seeing that happen. the gusty winds persist through the afternoon. they will slowly subside and then another messy start to the day tomorrow. your morning and evening commutes could be impacted. for most of us it will be rain, but north of the city we are talking snow and some accumulations. 1-2 inches not out of the realm of possibilities. as we move forward for the next several days temperatures remain below normal with one exception. so i hope you like the cold because it's here to stay. as far as what's happening with the winds, we are under a high-wind warning until 6:00. but that 6:00 end time is really for the east end of long island.

these warnings disappear through the day. in the meantime expect some very gusty winds. as far as the storm system that has caused major issues overnight, snow this morning, it's making a very swift exit. we still do see snow on the east end of long island. i will tell you what. boston is going to get quite a bit from this system as well. so that's system number one. system number two well to the west. it's going to impact the forecast for the entirety of the day tomorrow because temperatures are going to be very cold to start off. it will start as snow for some. hour by hour, here's what you can except for today. partly sunny skies beyond this system moving out. overnight clouds return. here we are tomorrow morning. 7 a.m. no rain in and around the city. north of the city it is snow and it stays snow north of the city all day long. rain as we look from basically i-84 and south. 6:30 when many people are on the roads making their drive home we could have pockets of heavy rain.

could be a day of a messy commute, especially really north of the city where we could see accumulating snow falling. as we make our way into tuesday, skies are clearing. temperatures are going to be very cold. so for today it is 42 degrees. feeling like the teens and 20s. clearing skies. very windy. overnight 34 degrees. clouds thicken again. tomorrow it is wet weather for us with a high of 50. tuesday cold again. 43 degrees and breezy. wednesday 49 degrees. increasing clouds. still breezy out there thursday. 58 with rain in the forecast. that would be the only day with temperatures above normal in the next seven. for friday, 46 degrees. yes, we are seeing another opportunity for a little bit of snow to fall on friday. and then i think as we head into the weekend temperatures do begin warming on up. andrea and dick, over to you. >> thank you. >> the wait is just about over for new york baseball fans. matt harvey takes the mound in

>> the injury this week was the blood clot in his bladder? >> right. >> is there any juice coming off the world series? i mean, remember that wild ending? remember harvey staying in the game and all that kind of stuff. some people are talking about a retribution scene because of something with syndergaard. >> syndergaard pitches tuesday. that will be interesting. not sure why the royals would want to pay back the mets, considering they won. but i think it's a good -- it's good for the mets to be in kansas city. get right back into it. >> give them the fire maybe to see this is where we want to be? >> what are some other strengths and weaknesses of the team beyond the pitching? >> obviously, the pitching is the key for the mets. i am not sure the line-up is as good as a team like the cubs or maybe even the yankees. >> the yankees?

nationals, when they decide to become a first place team, maybe this is their year? >> the jury is out on the nationals as well considering how much they struggled last year. it will be interesting to see if the nationals can bounce back. >> i mean, there is a team you just look at it and say, how is this possible that they are not winning. >> therm the favorites last year and they struggled. the mets surprised. the onus is on the mets to be like the nationals are last year. >> and in terms of the line-up for the mets, pretty much everybody is back this season except for dan null murphy. >> right. obviously, he was tremendous in the playoffs last year. what's funny about it is that daniel murphy and yoenis cespedes struggled in the world series. murphy was tremendous in the national league division series and national league championship series. i don't think they fall off that much at second base with the addition of neil walker. i think the mets are okay there. >> let's talk about the yankees.

rotation spot. crazy to think he had to fight for that. >> i don't think yankees fans like to hear it. i will say this. he makes a tremendous amount of money, which is absolutely a fact early. >> they said it wasn't a factor. >> they have to say that. >> seven year contract? >> yeah, he has time left and a lot of money left. i think despite the fact that the pitched pretty well in the spring, i is probably a better option at this point in time more so than evan nova. i think he fits the fifth starter spot. plus, in april there are off days. so you can skip that spot several times. >> the one thing i am thinking of, one word, a-rod, when it comes to the yankees and everyone is talking about the home run chase is too far away. he could be close to babe ruth? >> he could be. and he is not going to play the field. he is going to be the dh. so i guess that limits the chances of an injury.

>> he is going to be 41. >> right. >> when i say babe ruth, i am talking about 714 home runs. he could threaten that record? >> i am not sure he is going to get to barry bonds. but he is aging. that is certainly, as we said, a limit on the chances for getting hurt. >> a-rod, mark teixiera, carlos beltran, can they produce and get to the world series with the age on the team? >> i would say the odds are no. more so because of the pitching. yes, beltran and a-rod and teixiera, they are going to get hurt at some point. once, twice, maybe three times. i will say this. if they stay healthy, the pressure will be on the pitching. i don't think the pitching is nearly as good as they want it to be, especially in the rotation. the bullpen is fine. >> the bullpen is better -- i mean, assuming that the injuries -- we are going to have all three pitchers. that would be nice if it worked out, right? >> we will have to see.
