good afternoon. i'm mary calvi. >> and i'm chris wragge. >> we begin with breaking news on long island. a young woman killed while walking a dog. it happened after a driver lost control and crashed. cbs 2's emily smith is live in east islip with details. emily? >> reporter: good afternoon. that's right. look behind me can see all -- you can see all the damage from the pole. we are told a 25-year-old girl was walking her dog when she was killed. i just spoke to her aboutest friend and she said he had just put her son on the school bus, and was walking her dog. we are not sure if the pole killed the 25-year-old or the impact from the car. but we know the 25-year-old who was walking her dog has died. and she had a young son. and the woman driving the car, it may have been a medical

but that has not officially been confirmed. and she was taken to south side hospital. again, we are in touch with family and friends, with we'll bring you the latest tonight at 5:00. we are live in islip, emily smith, cbs 2 news. >> all right, emily. thank you. a deadly stabbing this morning in manhattan. a 22-year-old man was fatally stabbed in front of his girlfriend. cbs 2's magdalena is live where police have more. >> that's right, chris. new developments right now. police have a person in custody, as you mentioned that, person is a coworker of the victim's girlfriend. police do not believe that this attack was random. detectives spent the morning searching under cars weapon. each climbing construction scaffolding. >> they just told used, we can't get on the job site right now. they're looking for a knife.

murder jose vares. he was walking up third avenue between 94th and 95th street, with his 20-year-old 20-year- old girlfriend after work. they were approached by a suspect who police believe may have known the couple. a loud argument and a fight broke out. olivares was stabbed multiple times in the chest. his girlfriend was not hurt and nothing was stolen. investigators say the armed attacker then ran southbound, down third avenue. >> the couple hailed a cab to metropolitan hospital. where the 22-year-old man died this morning. nancy cabrero is the principal of ps198 across the street from the scene. this morning's murder investigation, too close for comfort. >> i have fifth graders and fourth graders that are coming to school by themselves. and they should be able to feel safe, walking to their community school. >> reporter: now, police say that the victim and his girlfriend had a 2-year-old

again, police have a person in custody. that person works with the victim's girlfriend. live on the upper east side, magdalena daris, cbs 2 news. >> magdalena, thank you. inaudible inaudible -- [ inaudible ] criminal endangerment and possession of controlled substance. dime and her daughter were found unresponsive inside their home, easter 2015, along with two suicide notes. an autopsy found benadryl, morphine and valium in the girl's sister. dons had a history of drug and alcohol addiction. brian galvez is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old female student. investigators say the sexual relationship began last october.

family member who contacted police. galvez worked at the latin dance company in bayshore. he is free on $100,000 bond. now to campaign 2016, with new york's presidential primary, just one week away. most of the candidates are spending these final days here, trying to earn every vote they did can. janelle burrell joins us now. >> reporter: there are 291 delegates up for grabs on the democratic side. but despite that fact, hillary clinton and donald trump are ahead by double digits. their opponents are trying to get every delegate they can have. >> john kasich would have to get every single one of the delegates in order to clinch the nomination. but he said the odds aren't stopping him. >> i'm not really frustrated about anything. it's just a road. you put one foot in front of the other.

second in new york polls, ahead of the new york primaries. but still more than 30 points behind donald trump n. overall polling, he's third behind trump and ted cruz. he's hoping for a brokered convention. but the front runner is doing all he can to avoid that scenario. >> reporter: trump in albany, courting upstate voters, also griping about the republican nomination process and ted cruz, who cruised a victory in colorado over the weekend. >> it's a rigged, disgusting, dirty system. >> reporter: if the convention is contested, crew -- cruz could gain where donald trump won in the primaries. >> it's going to be a battle in cleveland to see who can earn the majority of delegates. >> reporter: hillary clinton started the morning in manhattan, speaking at a pay quality round table.

having a date with someone she met online. a homeowner called police after finding body parts in a plastic bag in a recycling bin. >> i almost got sick. i just talked to her. >> justice for ingrid. no one deserves this. no one. >> on monday, police arrested 37-year-old john charlotteon. investigators are looking to see if he is linked to other crimes. now to a link on the paris attacks. three more have been detained in connection with the november attacks. belgian officials say the three were detained following the search in brussels. a judge will determine if they will stay in custody. meanwhile, two people have been charged in connection with the brussels attack. belgian prosecutors say the two men, identified only as male abraham.

a farmer's facebook ad for help goes viral. looking for a few cuddlers for baby goats. >> chip reid explains why the job is really important. >> reporter: at the paramount goat cheese farm in southern virginia, this is the time when baby goats run wild. and the handful of employees are run ragged. about 100 goats were born here in less than two weeks. desperate for help, owner gail hobbs-page advertised for volunteer baby goat cuddlers. she wasn't expecting much. so far, they've had over 2,000 responses from all ages. one of ashley eckle's daughters found a match, made in goat heaven. >> what is your goat's name? >> stella. >> and what's your name?

produce market with your tip of the day. >> reporter: hi, everybody. today, we're going to talk about fiddle head ferns. they're one of those produce items that have a very, very small window. when you see them, grab them. let's talk about the selection in storage. these are fiddle head ferns. they are a little psychadelic looking. but they are delicious. you want to make sure these spirals here are very, very tight coil. make sure they're nice and green. if they start to decay, remember, it has a short life span, in the ground and out of the ground too. when you bring these thome, keep -- these home, keep them cool and only for a short period of time when you use them. when it comes to preparation, they're actually extremely easy to prepare. make sure you wash them thoroughly. wash them about two or three times before you use them. if you have bacon, get out the fat. and you want to saute these quickly. and add lemon and black pepper. that acid will cut through the
