the nasdaq finished seven points higher. more than a quarter of a million active and retired truckers could see their pension benefits dramatically cut. the "washington post" reports the treasury department is considering a request from the central state's pension fund. it handles retirement benefit for union truck drivers across several states. congress passed a bill in 2014 that for the first time allows pension funds to reduce benefits in order to improve the solvency of the fund. if approved, retirees could see their paychecks shrink by july 1st. invokes has reached a -- volkswagen has reached a deal in principle to compensate owners of cars after they cheated on emissions test. the german automaker will spend just over $1 billion to compensate owners of about 600,000 cars. an official announcement is expected today. some owners would have the option of getting a repair or having volkswagen buy back their car.
