sources telling cbs 2 that manhattan district attorney cyrus vance has a scathing report on mayor de blasio's efforts to impact the 2014 senate races. the violations discovered by the investigation can only be described as willful and flagrant. the board's investigation centered on whether team de blasio violated the law by funneling big bucks contributions to democratic senate candidates in a pass through scheme. the money was sent to local county committees which almost immediately gave the money to the candidates. the move circumvented contribution limits. $10,300 was the contribution limit. the board's investigation came

republicans in puttal county. cbs 2 first told you about this two months ago when terrence murphy demanded a federal investigation of the practice. murphy was furious. he said de blasio was asking people who do business with the city to cut big checks. way over the amount he could give directly to murphy's opponent. at the time the mayor told me the practice was normal. >> it's something that has been going on for a long time in this state. it's a very normal thing to provide support for party organizations. >> >> reporter: they say it's pay to play. >> it's not. >> reporter: the board of elections doesn't agree. saying team de blasio's actions were done in order to avoid contribution limits and

contributors. a spokeswoman for the mayor insists everything was done in acore dons with the law. she says de blasio tends to cooperate with the investigation. i'm marshall cramer cbs 2 news. new at 6:00 a long island cabby killed by a driver police say was drunk and trying to get away. brian is joining us live. >> reporter: police won't say how fast this drunk driver was going at time of the crash but the impact was so violent that it pushed the taxicab all the wayway across the turnpike and the driver's side door slammed into this power pole. this cell phone video shows the terrible damage done to the taxicab.

turn bike. he was drunk and speeding in this starts car when he slammed into the cab push pushing it over two lanes and right over pole. the cab driver identified as a 47-year-old man was killed instantly. >> he was a hard working man. came in early morning, left late at night. he had two daughters and now this. >> reporter: the cabby worked for ali's taxi and airport service on hempstead turnpike. investigators say the suspect had no license and took off running after the crash leaving an injured 20-year-old woman he was with and the dying cabby behind. >> he's a local guy which makes this tragedy strike even closer to home. i was woken up last night but all the police cars coming down here. so this was devastating.

many drivers treat hemp today turnpike like a speedway. >> reporter: that 20-year-old woman that was with the suspect has a broken ankle. he was taken to the hospital. the suspect was caught an hour after the crash just down the road. reporting live from franklin square brian cbs 2 news. new video released from kony island that sent a woman to the hospital. a man opened fire thursday. a woman walking nearby was hit by one of the bullets in the cheek. she is expected to be okay. in new jersey police

bullet that hit a seven-year- old boy inside his home. faces attempted murder and weapons charges. police say back in february pope opened fire on rosa parks boulevard and warren street. several bullets went through the window at the boy's home hitting him in the shoulder. the boy is recovering from his injuries. steve lankford tells us what saved them from carbon monoxide poisoning. >> reporter: four generations, one big family, all sound asleep here following a late night celebration of passover. >> the aid harm sounded. 24 of us sleeping in the house because of the passover holiday. >> reporter: what sparked a middle night alarm but police and fire departments raced here for what was feared to be a mass casualty incident. >> they got very lucky. they got very lucky the alarm worked.

sudden death as investigators piece together what went wrong the crowds outside his home continue to grow. cbs 2 omar via franco reports. a sea of purple guards prince's home. his friends and loved ones including prince's girlfriend gathered to mourn his death saturday. prince's brother-in-law maurice phillips told tans the news was shocking. prince rogers nelson was found dead thursday morning. fans remembered him as the ultimate performer. >> it's electrifying. you leave and you're like, what did i just see? it's an experience. >> reporter: to help prince's fans get through this thing called life, some amc movie theaters are showing his iconic movie purple rain throughout the weekend.

cbs you can see the moment of impact. the collision of sure avenue and princeton street happened shortly before 11:00 p.m. friday night. >> i came outside, the smoke. >> reporter: police believe the car was a rental and stolen a few blocks away. they say the driver barreled through a stop sign and hit a church van with such force it flipped immediately after the crash investigators say the driver got out and ran. >> it was horrible. >> reporter: members tell us a youth pastor david evans and pregnant wife were traveling home after a church service with a family member, three- month-old, and three-year-old. a teenager was also riding in the van. >> they had one person left to drop off when the accident happened. >> reporter: that is when police say the speeding sedan slammed into the van up ending it on to a parked car. the remnants of this crash are left over here in the intersection but thankfully those people inside the van were able to go home with minor

>> i can't believe that. because the car was totals. >> reporter: members of the congregation believe devine intervention spared the passengers. >> no scratches, no injuries, no broken bones. thank god for protecting them. >> reporter: police are still searching for the driver of the car that ran off leaving the vehicle and crash victims at the scene. the federal aviation administration says boeing needs to fix dozens 787 dream liners for an icing problem. in january the engine of a 787 flying 27 feet shut down after ice fell from the fan blade. the plane was forced to land with only one engine. the agency has ordered modifications of 176 dream liners at 29 airlines worldwide. our beautiful weather continues but what about the workweek? we have the extended forecast. >> and plus it looks like he is saving her life but he actually

a special honor for the first african american fire commissioner. a street in upper manhattan bares his name. he was sworn in as commissioner in 1966. he died in 2001 at the age of 85. west 155th street will be robert oh lowery way. today would is have been his 100th birthday. ziad made the most of family day. hanging by a rope off a roof he popped the question. she didn't leave him hanging. she said yes to his proposal. winds out of the north at 13 miles per hour. gusting to about 18. but i think these temperatures with all of this sunshine, no complaints. check out the high temperatures around the area today. upper 60s. highs at la guardia 71 for jfk and value park. here's your temperature trend. we were 73 on thursday. 79 for friday. 71 today. we will be cooler. temperatures take a dip for your sunday. however the norm is is 64 so we are still expecting to be above normal and then we will be back into the 70s for monday. so over all not bad at all. your vortex satellite and radar not a lot to look at. cloud cover moving off so immerged the clearing skies. this is basically what we are left with right now. over all a beautiful afternoon and evening. higher pressure moving in. circulation bringing us drier air so it's clear and cooler on the. it's a splendid sunday. we'll have that march for babies. it will be beautiful out there.

to celebrate. pressure is on for the rangers, steve. >> we've had a lot of expectations for him. here they were down three games to one. we thought the rangers had pittsburgh where they wanted him. each of the last two years the rangers came back from 3-1 deficits and the start of this game today made us believe they could do it. 62 seconds. nick nash with the redirect and for the first time in the series the rangers are on the board first. but the hope was short lived. the reason the rangers are in every series is because of henrik lundqvist. this was his worst post season ever.
