middle and ring finger. it is where cops say that a bleeding man and his wife ran off the train after a fight with an armed suspect. >> it is happening everywhere as you need to be on alert. >> reporter: the couple was riding the northbound 6 train at 3:20 in the morning when an intoxicated passenger started making inappropriate comments about the victim's wife. the husband approached the drunk man who pulled that small blade from his backpack cutting his hand. when that train stopped, the couple was able to get off the train and flag down help. the suspect stayed on the northbound 6. across the city slashings and stabbings are up by 20%, but those same nypd statistics show knife attacks on trains are down since last year. neverless commuters are keeping vigilant in the early morning hours. >> i keep to myself. >> reporter: i caught up with isaac gonzalez heading to work

an armed subway rider two weeks ago. >> this individual had a pair of scissors and was threatening me. >> reporter: still others say they feel secure and that thesubway is an integral part of the town. the victim in this early morning altercation was taken to bellevue hospital and since been released. as for the suspect police are still searching for that man. >> magdelena, thank you. into the fundraising practices 14 months ago is demanding more action. the claim is that the mayor improperly funneled contributions to candidates for the state senate to be able to get his agenda passed. cbs2 political reporter marcia kramer is live with more. marcia?

the complaint that started it all off. a complaint that demanded a probe into mayor de blasio's fundraising actions. but the man behind the probe is demanding more. calling on mayor de blasio to remove all city hall staffers, all campaign workers who are on the payroll right now. he wants them to be put on leave until that probe is over. >> can you say to pay to play. like i said in 2014 that this was a shake down by mayor bill de blasio on business owners in new york city. >> reporter: the senator also had praises for cbs2, which first broke the story on october 30 of 2014. >> it's something that has been going on for a long time. it is a very normal thing to provide support for party organizations. >> they say it is great? >> it is not. there is nothing new here for years and years that people have supported the organizations. >> reporter: and two years

>> reporter: now the senator is so concerned about this situation that he is already introducing a new bill that would expand penalties for illegal contributions from one year to seven years in jail. he's also calling on todd kaminski, the candidate that was occupied by dean skelos receiving a $50,000 contribution from one of the people that remains for mayor de blasio as they say that $50,000 contribution should be returned. now we put that question today, but so far we have not received a response. we'll have much more for you on this story coming up today later on cbs2 news at 5:00. for now i'm marcia kramer, reporting live from white plains, back to you. >> good work. we will see you at 5:00 today. voters in connecticut and four other states are casting their ballots and the presidential primaries.

closer to securing their nominations. live from stanford, connecticut. >> reporter: chris, for hours now we've been watching a steady stream of voters showing up at this polling site. the state says more than 90,000 people in connecticut have registered to vote since january. that means that the turnout voters started hitting the polls at 6:00 this morning in stanford, connecticut casting their ball -- ballots. >> why today? >> i felt that this one mattered, you have to make a choice. >> it's an opportunity to change the agenda, change the conversation. >> reporter: donald trump is looking to lock up the republican votes in connecticut and four other primaries today in delaware, rhode island, maryland, and pennsylvania. trump will stay in new york as results come in tonight.

freshman earlier this month. the family of the 19-year-old stiverson nyer was speechless as they walked out of court. take a look. >> it doesn't make sense to me. >> what doesn't make sense to you? >> it is a very troubling case, a very serious case. i have no comment. >> reporter: he is accused of gunning down brandon lawrence of yonkers following a weekend campus party at iota. the arraignment where deseer who did not attend the college was affiliated with a gang and that they claimed witnesses saw him knock lawrence to the ground in that part and then pull that gun from their waistband. the crime is especially uncomprehensible because both the victim and the defendant were watching two other people fight in the park at about 3:00 a.m. there was no known motive for the shooting. both are 19 years old, one was

the victim was attending the college and living at home in yonkers and deseer had graduated from new rochelle high school and was working, but he did night tend the college. if convicted he could get life in prison. we are live in white plains lou young cbs2 news. an investigation is underway at fairfield university after a student told police she was attacked on campus last night. a woman was walking from one building to another when a man in his 40s grabbed her and sexually assaulted her. the suspect is still on the run. the university alerted other students with a text alert about the attack, encouraging students to use the buddy system when walking at night. new information police say a former man accused of the death of a bronx man inside an elevator overreacted. 57-year-old joaquin feliciano faces manslaughter charges. putting the man in a choke hold.

you. dramatic rescue of the boy that accidentally fell into a 40-feet deep well in china. the 7-year-old was playing at construction site when he fell on monday. firefighters pulled that boy out.

the cbs news learned that investigators are looking at the possibility of the mexican drug cartel killed eight members of an ohio family in a pre-planned execution. the family had marijuana operation on their property. cbs2 david bigno has more. >> reporter: a large source confirms to cbs news that investigators found some 200 marijuana plants. they were inside an indoor grow operation that was found in some of the homes. where eight members of the rhoden family were executed. they estimate that the street value of the marijuana plants is nearly half a million dollars. >> do you think that it may have been a factor of these murders? >> we have no idea that we are running the leads out. there's many different theories. >> reporter: more than 60 people have been interviewed by investigators. isaiah jones was detained at gunpoint during a traffic stop, questioned for six hours, then released. >> i want people to know that i

these were friends of mine. >> reporter: they also spoke to his friend rusty mongold. apparently about a facebook post that appeared to threaten the youngest murder victim. among the eight victims shot in rhoden. he thinks that her daughter knew the killer or killers. >> whoever did it, they knew the family because those two dogs would eat you up. >> reporter: they believe that there may be more than one killer because there are four different crime scenes. they are not convinced that one person could have done the job by himself without being noticed. the sheriff is convinced that the killer had help. cbs news, pike county, ohio. recalling the 30th anniversary of the world's worse nuclear power disaster that it was 30 years ago today when the plant explode sending poisonous gas over ukraine,
