have a great day. live from studio 46, this is cbs2 news this morning. >> it's 4:30, 50 degrees on this friday april 29th. you're waking up to a cloudy cool day ahead with temperatures not even getting out of the 50s. i'm chris wragge. >> and i'm mary calvi. welcome to cbs2 news this morning. first, a tourist in central park reports a disturbing incident to police. >> he says a man approached him last night offering a young boy for sex. janelle burrell with more. she's live in central park this morning. >> reporter: these are extremely chilling child abuse claims police are telling us about. they say it happened around 11:50 last night right here inside the park. they say that tourist from california was approached by a 35-year-old man who was with his 11-year-old son. the tourist says that the

perform sex acts on the boy in exchange for $300. police say the tourist walked away and immediately called 9-1- 1 keeping an eye on the father and son from a distance, but he eventually lost sight of the pair before police arrived. investigators this morning describing that suspect as a white male about 35 years old, last seen wearing a black coat with fur around the hood, blue jeans, dark hair, and they say he is clean shaven. this morning police are still talking with the witness in this case. they are urging anyone who may have seen the father and that young boy to contact the nypd. reporting live this morning from central park west, janelle burrell cbs2 news. thank you. a scare at trump tower last night. an intern working in trump's campaign office opened an envelope containing a white powdery substance abuse. emergency crews were called to trump tower at about 8:00 last night. five staff members and an officer who responded were temporarily isolated and

investigators say the substance is harmless, but additional testing is needed before the powder could be officially identified. an envelope containing a nonhazardous white powder and a threatening letter was sent to trump's son eric. the search for a manhattan bank robber, a summers image of the suspect just released. he held up a chase bank. passed a note to the teller who said he had a gun. he made off with $760 but no one was hurt. now for traffic and weather on the 2's. >> i just checked and it's friday, so we've got that to celebrate today. we are going to be dealing with on and off showers. it's for the most part light rain. in the city 50 and cloudy. more clouds than sun today. there will be just a hint of sun with the nature of the slow

a little bit of light rain and drizzle through fairfield county into sussex too. much of the area dry. roadways are a little damp from some showers yesterday, but it's very spotty in nature. it's a stationary front. there's a little batch of showers that will miss us to the south. then you can see western lakes. that will slide through and that is going to impact our weather tonight, so it could be a little wet as you sneak away. 50 at 8, chilly, yes, 54 at lunchtime. still cool. in fact, we're stuck in the 50s once again, well below the normal. some folks 10 degrees below normal your high this afternoon 5. 50/50 decision for the weekend we've been talking about. we'll have more of that in the weekend. kyla's in for alex. >> that's right. we're going to ease into this friday, we're not doing too badly. we have in bridge water route 202, 206 is closed in both directions between route 22 and 287. that is due to an accident with

>> she shouldn't be allowed to run because what's happened with that whole e-mail scandal is an absolute disgrace. >> i recognize the media is all eager to talk about an alliance. >> ted cruz denied entering into an alliance with john kasich to win the state. the paper called the potential trump presidency a danger to the u.s. and the world. trump and kasich will address california's gop convention later today. former house speaker john boehner pulled no punches when describing how he feels about ted cruz. >> lucifer in the flesh over my dead body will he be president. >> he called cruz the most miserable person he's ever worked with. cruz tried to tie conservative opposition to rival donald trump.

boehner as speaker of the house, and you want a president like john boehner donald trump is your deny. >> he said boehner refused to meet with him during the government shut down three years ago. employees at a baltimore tv station are recovering are from a major scare after a man walked in with what appeared to be a bomb strapped to his chest. >> the 25-year-old suspect walked into baltimore's local fox tv station in a panda suit, a surgical mask and what he claimed was a bomb strapped to his body. police say it was a red flotation device with some unusual items and wires that looked convincing. >> what we've been able to find out is those devices were actually chocolate candy bars wrapped in aluminum foil with wire connecting each of them. there was also a small motherboard. >> he got as far as the security guard. >> i told him i couldn't let

>> the guard quietly dialed 9-1- 1 on his phone. when police arrived they saw the man inside the building. his car was on fire in the parking lot. about 90 minutes later he unexpectedly walked out, and police didn't take chances. when he ignored their command to stop a sniper team opened fire department. the man survived with as many as three gunshot wounds. no one else was hurt. >> they used a robot to disarm him, to take the clothing off of him, to take the device off of him in order to move in to provide treatment to him. >> it was then that police determined his fake bomb was harmless. >> no other injuries were reported in relation to the incident. the suspect is recovering at a hospital. now to the city corruption scandal and mayor de blasio defending his inner circle team. reporters swarmed the mayor following word that state and federal prosecutors served subpoenas on top aides at city hall. they're investigating the

democrats win control of the state senate in 2014. >> i feel fine because everything we've done is legal and appropriate. >> my reading of the law is that these activities were specifically prohibited because there was an attempt to evade contribution limits to candidates by funneling money through these political committees to these specific candidates. tried to get some answers from the press secretary karen henton. she said she didn't know enough about the subpoenas to address it. a significant decline of homeless people living in new york. 2794 are now living unsheltered. that is a 12% drop from last year and 36% fewer than the first count in 2005. mayor bill de blasio announcing a quarterly counting system starting next month. new information in syria. the u.s. is condemning air strikes strikes conducted by

transportation officials revealed the new fully protected bikeway over the pulaski bridge. the brim connects long island city queens to brooklyn. a mixup with the standardized test at a new jersey school leaves some students in tears. the kids were told they were given the wrong exam and would have to take another test all over again. >> it's the latest problems for the controversial standardized test. >> the principal came in and told us he we had taken the wrong test. >> 34, 8th dividers were supposed to take the algebra 1 assessment but were administered the grade 8 mathematics test. >> she was like sad about that, and she almost cried. >> some people were crying because we had taken a whole test and we had to basically throw away all the answers. >> now we're going to spend another day missing class. >> the school district would not go on camera but says as soon as it was brought to the

administrator, the test was closed. the new jersey department of education office of assessment was immediately notified of the irregularity and the principal contacted the parents. >> the letter said they stopped the test. we took the test. >> parents tell me it was a student that alerted a teacher that something was wrong saying that the it felt test felt a little too easy. teachers are not permitted to look at or help during the computerized tests. >> the material was really easy and we had learned it before so we were confused why it was on this test. >> several parents told me they were upset about the wasted time and effort but would not go on camera because of fear of retaliation from the district. bayonne police officers told me they were called to the school because my cbs2 news camera was here reporting the story. the 8th graders will retest next wednesday. on money watch stock futures are mix affidavit big

the biggest drop came with a late selloff of apple. dow jones industrial average lost 210 points. the s&p 500 dropped 19. nasdaq fell by 57. uber is giving you less time to get into a car you've requested. once an uber car arrives at your prearranged pickup location the driver can start charging you after 5 minutes. uber has reduced the 5 minutes to 2. uber said it was requested by drivers. from the extreme edge of a roof high above manhattan there was a bird eye view like no other. getting that elusive perch and capturing a one of a kind image is disabling and illegal. >> my heart was pounding. what was your heart doing? >> i was just focused on trying to get good photos because we didn't have very long there, and we got chased off pretty soon after taking this. i love that photo.

crews were called to the scene near 88th street and 156th avenue in howard beach just after midnight the here's a look at what the fire looked like earlier. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. the port authority is apparently talking to federal officials about resolving a probe of its spending policies. the securities and exchange commission has been investigating the agency. the port authority is only supposed to spend bond funds on its own projects but some were used and said to repair new jersey roadways. bond documents published yesterday revealed the two parties are talking about some sort of resolution. now for traffic and weather on the 2's. >> good morning mary. city right now. we've got light rain in the area. that will be the hallmark of your early morning and then after a break some more showers later today and tonight. you may actually get a hint of that sun later today. right now it's a light rain through parts of putnam county, little more in the way of coverage for parts of westchester up in the duchess. you see some showers through sussex.

we spoke with his mother who said he is doing fine. he was sent home last night in a car service around 11:00. we're told authorities did test the substance and so far no indications it was anything dangerous. first responders rushed to trump tower a last night after a high school intern from westchester opened a letter with white powder inside. sources say he was in a fifth floor office for the trump campaign where volunteers make calls in open mail. hazmat has responded 9-1-1 call. sources say the intern was decontaminated as a precaution. about half a dozen others including a police officer were isolated and monitored also as a precaution. all of this went on as the republican front runner campaigned in california. this is not the first time trump has been targeted. back in march his son eric trump and his wife received

at their home on trump park east in central park south warning donald trump to drop out of the presidential race or harm would come to his family. the envelope also contained a white powder which turned out to be harmless. >> reporter: and as for last night, sources say trump was notified about what happened and that none of his family members were present here at trump tower when that letter was opened. reporting live this morning in midtown, andrea grymes cbs2 news. >> thank you. a scare for passengers aboard a universalled airlines flight -- united airlines flight from newark to nebraska. the plane made an emergency landing after the pilot reported engine troubling. no one was hurt. it's back to court for a long island mom accused in a vicious attack against a teacher. the video shows the mother put her disturb's teacher in a head lock, slammed her to the ground and knocked her unconscious. she was on trial for the 2015 fight at a middle school in hempstead. the trial is the talk of the town.

hands on each other. i teach my kids that. >> there's always two sides to the story. >> we're doing everything possible to ensure a safe environment for the students and staff. >> mckenzie claims the teacher pushed her first. police are looking for with men after a woman was pistol whipped in east new york brooklyn. it happened yesterday afternoon. the nypd says a 43-year-old woman was taking out the trash when two men approached and hit her with a gun. police believe robbery was the motive but it's unclear if the men took anything. she was taken to block dale hospital. a health alert, sacred heart university is reporting mumps outbreak. the university says there have been at least 17 cases since late march. the infected students were vaccinated as required for college admission but over time immunity can fade. >> we're not sure where our first case came from. it was somebody who definitely didn't travel internationally,

connecticut, so they got it from somebody who potentially got it from somebody else. this is how the disease, the illness spreads. >> harvard university is reporting more than 40 case of the mumps. investigators say prince's death may be blamed on a drug overdose. the star's body was found at his paisley park home last week. investigators want to know what prescriptions the 57-year-old was taking. they want to know whether a doctor was with prince on that plane that made an emergency landing in illinois before he died. a judge sealed a search warrant out of fear it would hamper the investigation. it's now 5:08. still ahead a consumer alert. the facebook scam that you should be aware of so you don't become a victim. >> plus would you pay to drive in a fast lane. the new idea for some bridges and tunnels to avoid getting stuck in traffic. >> it is coming for weather to stop construction, but eagles? the project that was grounded due to a pair of eagles and

trump tower last night after a high school intern from westchester opened a letter with white powder inside. sources say he was in a fifth floor office where volunteers make calls and open mail. fdny hazmat responded to the 9- 1-1 call around 8:00 along with the nypd and city department of health. sources say the intern was decontaminated as a precaution. about half a dozen others including a police officer were monitored also as a precaution. all of this went on as the republican front runner campaigned in california. this is not the first time trump has been targeted. back in march his son eric trump and his wife received a threatening letter at their home at trump park east on central park south warning donald trump to drop out of the presidential race or harm would come to his family. the envelope also contained a white powder which turned out to be harmless.

we start with an accident in scotch plains. we've got an overturned vehicle and downed worries. it has all lanes blocked on route 22 westbound at park avenue. then in bridgewater, route 202, 206 is closed southbound between route 287 and route 22. that is dough to an accident with a downed pole and some wires. alternate side parking is suspended today for orthodox good friday. you do have to pay those meters. there's a little bit of rain out there. a few slippery spots. in the city it's cloudy and cool. this is north of town through parts of westchester and into north nassau. a little bit of rain, few more showers tonight. for the weekend saturday's superior with a mix of sun and clouds and 64. sunday is soggy and cooler. leftover shower monday. thanks so much. we'll have another check of news and weather in 25 minutes. >> thanks for watching, i'm mary calvi. >> and i'm chris wragge.
