have a great day. live from studio 46, this is cbs2 news this morning. >> it's 4:30, 50 degrees on this friday april 29th. you're waking up to a cloudy cool day ahead with temperatures not even getting out of the 50s. i'm chris wragge. >> and i'm mary calvi. welcome to cbs2 news this morning. first, a tourist in central park reports a disturbing incident to police. >> he says a man approached him last night offering a young boy for sex. janelle burrell with more. she's live in central park this morning. >> reporter: these are extremely chilling child abuse claims police are telling us about. they say it happened around 11:50 last night right here inside the park. they say that tourist from california was approached by a 35-year-old man who was with his 11-year-old son. the tourist says that the

perform sex acts on the boy in exchange for $300. police say the tourist walked away and immediately called 9-1- 1 keeping an eye on the father and son from a distance, but he eventually lost sight of the pair before police arrived. investigators this morning describing that suspect as a white male about 35 years old, last seen wearing a black coat with fur around the hood, blue jeans, dark hair, and they say he is clean shaven. this morning police are still talking with the witness in this case. they are urging anyone who may have seen the father and that young boy to contact the nypd. reporting live this morning from central park west, janelle burrell cbs2 news. thank you. a scare at trump tower last night. an intern working in trump's campaign office opened an envelope containing a white powdery substance abuse. emergency crews were called to trump tower at about 8:00 last night. five staff members and an officer who responded were temporarily isolated and

investigators say the substance is harmless, but additional testing is needed before the powder could be officially identified. an envelope containing a nonhazardous white powder and a threatening letter was sent to trump's son eric. the search for a manhattan bank robber, a summers image of the suspect just released. he held up a chase bank. passed a note to the teller who said he had a gun. he made off with $760 but no one was hurt. now for traffic and weather on the 2's. >> i just checked and it's friday, so we've got that to celebrate today. we are going to be dealing with on and off showers. it's for the most part light rain. in the city 50 and cloudy. more clouds than sun today. there will be just a hint of sun with the nature of the slow

>> the guard quietly dialed 9-1- 1 on his phone. when police arrived they saw the man inside the building. his car was on fire in the parking lot. about 90 minutes later he unexpectedly walked out, and police didn't take chances. when he ignored their command to stop a sniper team opened fire department. the man survived with as many as three gunshot wounds. no one else was hurt. >> they used a robot to disarm him, to take the clothing off of him, to take the device off of him in order to move in to provide treatment to him. >> it was then that police determined his fake bomb was harmless. >> no other injuries were reported in relation to the incident. the suspect is recovering at a hospital. now to the city corruption scandal and mayor de blasio defending his inner circle team. reporters swarmed the mayor following word that state and federal prosecutors served subpoenas on top aides at city hall. they're investigating the

11 years old. the tourist says the 35-year- old suspected ask him if he would perform sex acts on the boy in exchange for $300. police say the tourist walked away immediately calling 9-1-1 while keeping an eye on the father and son from a distance. he says he eventually lost sight of them before police arrived. what we can tell you this morning, investigators are searching for that suspect and the young boy. they describe the suspect as a white male about 35 years old, last seen wearing a black coat with fur around the hood. blue jeans, dark hair, and they say he is clean shaven. right now investigators are talking with that witness, with that tourist from california, but they are urging anyone who may have seen that man and his son to contact the nypd. reporting live from central park west, janelle burrell cbs2 news. >> janelle, thank you. new this morning, firefighters say a brush fire

crews were called to the scene near 88th street and 156th avenue in howard beach just after midnight the here's a look at what the fire looked like earlier. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. the port authority is apparently talking to federal officials about resolving a probe of its spending policies. the securities and exchange commission has been investigating the agency. the port authority is only supposed to spend bond funds on its own projects but some were used and said to repair new jersey roadways. bond documents published yesterday revealed the two parties are talking about some sort of resolution. now for traffic and weather on the 2's. >> good morning mary. city right now. we've got light rain in the area. that will be the hallmark of your early morning and then after a break some more showers later today and tonight. you may actually get a hint of that sun later today. right now it's a light rain through parts of putnam county, little more in the way of coverage for parts of westchester up in the duchess. you see some showers through sussex.

we spoke with his mother who said he is doing fine. he was sent home last night in a car service around 11:00. we're told authorities did test the substance and so far no indications it was anything dangerous. first responders rushed to trump tower a last night after a high school intern from westchester opened a letter with white powder inside. sources say he was in a fifth floor office for the trump campaign where volunteers make calls in open mail. hazmat has responded 9-1-1 call. sources say the intern was decontaminated as a precaution. about half a dozen others including a police officer were isolated and monitored also as a precaution. all of this went on as the republican front runner campaigned in california. this is not the first time trump has been targeted. back in march his son eric trump and his wife received

at their home on trump park east in central park south warning donald trump to drop out of the presidential race or harm would come to his family. the envelope also contained a white powder which turned out to be harmless. >> reporter: and as for last night, sources say trump was notified about what happened and that none of his family members were present here at trump tower when that letter was opened. reporting live this morning in midtown, andrea grymes cbs2 news. >> thank you. a scare for passengers aboard a universalled airlines flight -- united airlines flight from newark to nebraska. the plane made an emergency landing after the pilot reported engine troubling. no one was hurt. it's back to court for a long island mom accused in a vicious attack against a teacher. the video shows the mother put her disturb's teacher in a head lock, slammed her to the ground and knocked her unconscious. she was on trial for the 2015 fight at a middle school in hempstead. the trial is the talk of the town.

trump tower last night after a high school intern from westchester opened a letter with white powder inside. sources say he was in a fifth floor office where volunteers make calls and open mail. fdny hazmat responded to the 9- 1-1 call around 8:00 along with the nypd and city department of health. sources say the intern was decontaminated as a precaution. about half a dozen others including a police officer were monitored also as a precaution. all of this went on as the republican front runner campaigned in california. this is not the first time trump has been targeted. back in march his son eric trump and his wife received a threatening letter at their home at trump park east on central park south warning donald trump to drop out of the presidential race or harm would come to his family. the envelope also contained a white powder which turned out to be harmless.

eye on the father and son from a distance, but he eventually lost track of them before police arrived. this morning investigators are talking with that tourist as they searched for the suspect. they say he is described as a white man about 35 years old last seen wearing a black coat with a fur trim, blue jeans, dark hair, and they say he is clean shaven. again, right now police are talking with the witness in that case trying to get more details about what he says transpired here in the park. in the meantime they're asking anyone who may have seen that man with his son to contact the nypd. reporting live this morning from central park west, janelle burrell cbs2. thanks. new this morning, the search for a manhattan bank robber. surveillance image just released. he held up a chase bank yesterday on broadway between 32nd and 33rd streets. he passed a note to a teller that said he had a gun, made off with $760. no one was hurt.

sickening allegations from that tourist. he claims that he was near bow bridge around midnight when that man about 35 years old approached him with his 11-year- old son and tried to essentially sell his son for sex. now, police say that, again, this happened near the bow bridge. he said that the suspect came up to him, asked him if he'd like to perform sex acts on the boy in exchange for $300. police say the tourist from california immediately walked away and called 9-1-1 while keeping an eye on the father and son from a distance. but he eventually lost sight of the pair before police arrived. police have been in the park this morning, also that i have been talking with the witness. we've been talking with people here at central park, and they say they are just stunned by these allegations. >> leaves me without words. i have like four kids of my own. i can't believe as a parent
