i'm just an innocent bystander at the right place at the right time. >> a man witnesses a hate crime in progress and sends the suspects running. a risky rescue in cold water plus -- >> i was just over by that water! >> washed away by wet weather. storms that damaged the south, now headed in our direction. good evening. i'm cindy hsu. a teenager in queens ends up beaten by a group of men, and the attack could have been much worse. dave carlin with the hate crime investigation. >> reporter: on this surveillance video, three suspects believed to be

street with weapons. police say they targeted their 19-year-old victim based on his race. one of the young suspects allegedly yelled arab as the teen was sucker punched twice in the face, and police say a baseball bat and a pipe were in the hands of the two other teens, and one of them allegedly yelled isis, isis, and in the surveillance video, you can see what appears to be the pipe. ron garcia says he witnessed the attack. >> this gate up there, and this is when they took the swing with the pipe, and he moved out of the way, and then he made his way to me. they made the left on 33rd road. >> reporter: ray visron is the victim's father and says his son has a big bump on the head but did not go to the hospital. >> it's shocking. it happened so fast. >> reporter: he calls them hoodlums who must be caught soon.

sea rescue teams spots the stranded kayaker. a diver drops into the water, making had his way over to 33- year-old danny inng. >> it definitely had a look of a little bit of panic, and he was absolutely exhausted, and inng was fishing at 8:00 a.m. he had good luck with a good catch, but the police say the catch was not luck -- lucky for him. >> he hooked a good-sized fish, and it pulled him quite a bit. >> reporter: the harbor unit vessel arrive, and they pulled him on board, taking him to shore along with his kayak. rescuers said his life vest was his savior.

fire in a wooded area. they were taken to the hospital with severe burns no word on their conditions this evening. crews were on hand this evening to repair the utility pole. crews are trying to determine what caused the crash. after 4 nights of rough terrain in new zealand, and mother and her daughter have been rescued. the two stayed calm and stuck together for warmth. they said they could not find their way back after going for a hike on tuesday. the knew zealand harold said they used brush, logs and other items to spell out the word help. carolyn was visiting her daughter who is studying in the country. bono joined the cast of ellipsed, speaking out for the

and this area of high pressure that has been keeping things nice and dry that will slide offshore. we start at 6:00 tomorrow morning, and although it does not look like the rain is here, i think you should count on the rain actually being here at 6:00 or 7:00 in the morning, and getting heavier as the morning moves on. into the afternoon, more widespread rain with pockets of moderate or heavy rain, and we will get a break into monday. sort of more like a drizzle, and then look what happens. we head into monday, and mid- morning, and then we are looking at rain. how much rain? anywhere from just shy of an inch to possibly 2 inches of rain by monday night. remember, we need it 6-inch deficit. keep that in mind. pull out your rain gear and keep it handy over the next week. cloudy, chilly, late sprinkles, and tomorrow, it's cool, cloudy and rainy. cool day tomorrow, and it never really warms up, and back into the 60s for monday, and showers and thunderstorms are likely.
