>> live, from the cbs broadcast center, this is cbs2 news at 11:00. >> flooded out and water logged. severe storms strand drivers and turn streets into rivers. we could see more of the same tomorrow. plus, tragedy in texas. new information tonight on a deadly balloon crash and the warning that could have prevented it. and an at woman nearly raped in the heart of greenwich village. i'm jessica moore. the downpours lasted hours and flooded one town with half a foot of rain. a car in morristown was hit with several large tree branches. meteorologist elise finch is over in the weather center with the latest weather conditions. >> i want to start taking a look at the rain you just talked about. yeah, you said half a foot.

jersey. 5.75 inches. 4.75 in princeton. north brunswick, 4.57. cranberry, four inches of rain. it was a true saturday soaker for a number of new jersey locations. we still have flood advisories until 2:30 in the morning because it is still raining on top of the pictures you have already seen and the numbers you have already seen. still raining. this is the radar the cells one after another moving over the plainsboro area which is how they got up to six inches of rain in a few hours. as we look at where the vortex radar is, you can see light rain is where we are at now. we are seeing lighter rain. the problem is, the area of low pressure that generated all of this is still with us. so tonight, mild and muggy. a chance for thunderstorms lingers and we are expected to do the same thing tomorrow. i'll have more coming up in the full forecast.

hit princeton especially hard and flooded out the princeton junction train station. ticket machines were damaged but the train service was not affected. in plainsboro, it was a high tide. a parking lot looked more like a lake. water filled the streets in north brunswick as rain ran off rooftops fast and furious. now to the worst hot air balloon crash in the skies above texas killing 16 people today. the crash happening as a popular balloon festival is underway in new jersey. >> reporter: this is the deflated hot air balloon in a field outside lockheart texas after the terrible crash that killed 16 people. the basket below the balloon caught fire and plunged to the ground right below high voltage

up. >> reporter: neighbor margaret wily fears that the balloon hit the wires. >> i think the pop i heard was the balloon connecting with the lines. >> reporter: the balloon was with heart of texas hot air balloon rides. investigators from the national transportation safety board and the fbi rushed to the row mote scene about 30 miles south of austin. >> it is like a crime scene. you only get one chance at it so we want to do everything corre. people died when balloons hit a power line in virginia. it was recommended the faa conducted more oversight of balloon operators due to concerns of high fatality accidents but the faa rejected that. >> safety is everything. >> reporter: larry conash is the balloon m easy ter at the festival of ballooning. he says electric lines are

will see the poles. and you land on the downwind side of them. we don't have steering wheels or brakes. >> reporter: there has never been an accident at the new jersey balloon festival and their hearts go out to the victims of the texas tragedy. reporting from the news room. a woman attacked right near nyu and police are looking for the man who tried to rape dave carlin reports. >> reporter: from where i'm standing on fifth avenue and west eighth street, the famed arch lights up the area. a woman was attacked as she was walking south toward it. the woman was accosted by a man who tried to strike up a conversation with her. as the woman tried to get away from him, he rushed up behind her, grabbed her, and sexually assaulted her and she broke free and the man got away.

you think there are always cars here and it is always bright light and people walking around. so it is terrifying. >> if it is more visible security in the building, something, i mean. i would prefer. that was something that would be seen from the outside. >> this is is a dark block and a quiet one at 4:00 a.m. >> reporter: investigators are looking for surveillance video. the victim is five foot six with a medium build. clothing was dark and cops said she had a difficult time seeing his face because he had a hat on. police say the victim decided against being checked out at a hospital after her ordeal just steps away from this landmark tourist spot. in greenwich village, dave carlin, cbs2 news. a warning tonight about the zika virus. officials are urging pregnant women to postpone nonessential travel to florida in england.

locally transmitted cases were discovered in miami-dade county. the u.s. has not issued a travel advisory to florida. crews are collecting and killing the insects for testing. out of 19,000 mosquitoes captured, none have tested positive for the accident. in 100 days, the country will elect a new president and democrat hillary clinton is pushing hard for undecided voters in ohio and pennsylvania. clinton and her running mate tim kaine visited a wired then they got a celebrity boost appearing with mavericks owner mark cuban who rallied for the democrats in his hometown of pittsburgh. >> we will try to get those who have been successful to help us fund what will make america more successful. >> trump isn't campaigning this weekend, but he has planned his own trip to ohio and pennsylvania next week.

responding to claims that he sacrificed nothing for his country made by this man, the father of a fallen muslim soldier at the democratic national convention. >> i think i have made a lot of sacrifices. i work very, very hard. i have created thousands and thousands of jobs. >> social media has been blowing up over trump's response to the father of that fallen soldier with the hash tag trump sacrifices. she says she was just hours from death. last night, we introduced you to a new jersey woman rescued by four national guards men after she made a wrong turn and got stranded in the woods. for the first time, we are hearing from the soldiers who saved her life. >> she told us she thought she was going to die. she had been yelling and honking her horn. she actually gave up. >> reporter: members of the massachusetts army national guard on a training mission in new jersey came face to face with a real life rescue

haskins in the backseat of her car unconscious. she took a wrong turn heading to baltimore with her cat. >> the car was stuck in deep sand. >> reporter: she ended up on a remote trail in the middle of the woods, her cell phone was dead and she was forced to drink rainwater from thunderstorms to survive. >> i had accepted i was going to die. >> reporter: monday afternoon, she blacked out. that is when the soldiers from the 186 brigade suor >> we were yelling and she was not responding. >> reporter: they rushed back and brought back two medics who put her on oxygen. >> and i came to and there were these men's faces. it was the best thing that happened. >> reporter: these national guards men know it is not every day they get to save a person's life. much less a stranded elderly woman and it is an experience they will never forget. >> this is why i joined the guard. civilian soldiers helping civilians.

>> new video out tonight shows the moment a man opened fire on a jeep in queens. the nypd says it started when the man in the jeep fired a the man on the bike fired two shots back as the jeep sped away. it happened on 137th street in flushing on july 12th. no one was hurt. but police are now searching for both men. a consumer alert tonight. pesg long island says it is raising electricity rates again. the average electric bill will go up about $10 a month starting monday.

many people in long beach have been having power problems. some have suffered from 20 blackouts this month lasting 18 hours at a time. from a brooklyn homeless shelter to sports stardom. three sisters from bushwick are headed to the junior olympics. lou young spoke to the girls and their coach and proud mom. >> reporter: a final workout for the track club before week's junior olympics in texas. the girls from brooklyn have high hopes from three members all from the same homeless shelter. sisters who discovered track and field about the same time last year they and their single mother fell on hard times. >> every time they get on the track, they amaze us. they never ran before. >> had no idea they were athletes? >> not at all. i knew they liked to run around like kids. that was all there was room to do. >> reporter: mom works

car service but it doesn't pay much and she fell behind on the rent. that is how they got evicted and ended up at the homeless shelter. the kids were entered in a track meet to give them something to do and their talent was immediately recognized. >> it is easy to see raw talent. >> you saw it right away? >> i did. >> reporter: eight-year-old brook says being in the lead in the middle distance race is a form of liberation. >> i feel free because i don't have listen to anybody. i can run freely. >> reporter: she will compete in high jump though she is unable to train for that event. >> she is able to compete at a high level without practicing. >> reporter: ten-year-old rain shepherd lovers the solitude of long distance running. >> it is better than being with the group? >> why is that? >> i'm zoned out. it is just peaceful. >> reporter: 11-year-old ty drills the hurdles. she dreams of when they will all live in their own home again.

we saw it today in terms of the heavy rain. this is claire in yonkers. 75 degrees where she is. we will talk about just who is getting the rain and when. but let's take a live look outside. hard to see. hard to see. got some fog out there. i think that was the empire cam. hard to tell. foggy and humid. the relative humidity is 94 with this weekend. it is unsettled tonightment tomorrow will be a repeat of today. and as will monday. 84 degrees that was the high temperature today. it is the norm. it is exactly where we should be. with the humidity, it felt warmer at times more like the mid and upper 80s at times. still, temperature wise right where we should be. 70-degree dew points. we consider that oppressive. that is where we were today. even higher at times with low

far behind. but tuesday represents a bit of a change day as things start to dry out. here is where we are now. the vortex satellite and radar, you can see mostly green and light green letting us know we are seeing the lighter rain. a lot of areas not seeing any rain at all. but the setup, we have this area of low pressure out of the ohio valley riding along the stationary front so it is here to stay for a while. here is how the futurecast sees things. some additional showers and thunderstorms. tomorrow morning looks very active. 9:30, take a look. you could see heavy rain. lunchtime moreover the same. 4:00 p.m., more of the same. we head into monday, we start to get a little bit of a break in the action, but that is early. we are expecting again, more showers. more thunderstorms for monday. so cloudy skies, the storms linger. we a t 80 degrees tomorrow. one of the coolest days we have
