first vanessa murdock is here with a look at the forecast. does not look too good behind you. >> today is a repeat of yesterday. we saw the flooding. 6 inches of rain. that is for some. that could repeat itself today. you never want to drive through standing water. you never know where that water is going. here is the deal. let's take a look at the alerts right now. putnam county has a flood advisory in effect l of us until tonight at 11:00. again, today, expected to be a repeat of yesterday. some breaks of sun. some passing showers and thunderstorms. and we have that situation out there now making its way into putnam county. very heavy rainfall. similar story in ocean county. just to the southwest of toms river. expect the potential for more flooding today. also down toward somerset

dealing with high river and creek levels this morning because of of the excessive rainfall yesterday. be cautious out there. it is mild and muggy this morning. in the 70s. only heading to 80. expected to feel very sticky and stormy today. will everybody get dumped on? no. that many of us will. play it safe today. flooding is a possibility for any of us. i will have more on the forecast and let you know when the weather will settle down in a few minutes. developing story in manhattan. police are searching for a man who they say tried to rape a woman. >> it happened in greenwich village right near nyu. cbs2'scbs2's magdalena doors joins us live this morning with the latest. >> reporter: police say the suspect was dressed in dark clothing. and approached the victim from behind, waiting until she was on a dark block to strike. >> the washington square

draws attention anytime of day. and with crowds, often comes the feeling of safety. >> there are always cars here. you think it is always safe. it is bright and people are walking around no matter what time of day it is. >> police say a few blocks away, at 4:00 saturday morning, a 20-year-old woman was approached by a man who tried to strike up a conversation. walking along 5 avenue, the suspect grabbed the victim from behind and sexually assaulted her. police say the young woma ran away. the incident has other women looking for more protection. >> just more visible security in the building or something -- i would prefer. somebody there that could see from the outside. >> police say the victim described her attacker as a man, 5-foot, 6 inches tall, a medium build. investigators note that she could not get a clear look at

refused medical attention here at the scene. as for the suspect, police are asking anyone with information on who he might be to give them a call. live in greenwich village, magdalena doris, cbs2 news. new video this morning. police say it shows a man opening fire on a jeep in queens. investigators say it all started when the man man and that she fired off a shot at a man on a bicycle. police say the cyclist fired two shots back and the jeep sped away. this happe 12. nobody was hurt but police are searching for both men. also in queens, the search is on for two men who police say were caught on camera stealing a woman's purse. investigators say surveillance video shows the man standing next to the woman at a cafi before grabbing the purse off the counter and taking off. police say his friend was nearby acting as a as a lookout. the woman said there was $200

the purse. and new jersey residents bracing for more rain. the princeton junction parking lot looked like a pond. and the tunnel overflowing with water. so the transit used buses to shuttle passengers from one side of the station to another. ticket machines were damaged. but train service was not affected. flash flooding left some drivers stranded yesterday. it was high tide in some homes in plainsboro. an apartment building parking lot looked after the downpour. and water filled the streets in north brunswick as rain ran off the road top. the flooding is not just affecting that area. crews had to rescue people after a road collapse. vanessa murdock will be back with another check of the forecast in a few minutes. a special ntsb investigation team is going to arrive and central texas where a hot air balloon carrying 16

now we're hearing from the soldiers who saved her life. >> she said she thought she was going to die. she was preparing to die when she was laying in the backseat. she said she gave up. >> members of the massachusetts army national guard on a training mission in new jersey came face-to-face with a real-life rescue mission. they found 87-year-old jeanette haskins slumped over in the backseat of her car unconscious. she said she took a long -- a wrong turn sa >> it was obvious the car was stuck in the deep sand. >> she ended up on a remote trail in the middle of the woods. her cell phone was dead and she was forced to drink rainwater from thunderstorms to survive. >> on monday afternoon, she says she blacked out. that is when the soldiers from the 186th brigade support battalion found her car. >> we were yelling and she was not responding. >> they rushed back to their

mother nature, can you back off a little bit? flooding again possible today. right now, having some issues especially north of the city. let's take you live outside. talk about a great picture. it is so gloomy to start off this morning. 74 degrees. very sticky. east, southeast wind at 6 miles per hour. more showers and storms today. we could experience localized flooding. and it stays unsettled tomorrow as well. today, basically a carbon copy of yesterday. tomorrow, web weather just a little bit. but it will still be unsettled. yesterday, we have some very heavy hitters out there. in plainsboro new jersey, nearly 6 inches of rain. princeton, nearly 5 inches. new brunswick, four and half inches. and cranberry, new jersey, 4 inches of rain. look at the contrast. central park, a quarter inch. today will be a very similar story. some will get torrential flooding rain. others, may see none at all. said just keep in mind that

are not hitting your home. the temperature trend is it like this. very much a cool one today. 80 degrees. because of the ample cloud cover and ample showers and storms. tomorrow, a little warmer at 82. tuesday, 80. normal high is 84. we do crank up the heat as the week progresses. a look at the vortex satellite and radar. as i mentioned, trouble to the north. we do have flooding issues and putnam county. it is making its way into dutchess county as well. another strong storm across ocean county making its way out. that will cause problems on the roadways. the bigger picture is this. this area of low pressure is moving so sluggishly east. that is why we're going to have days and days of this unsettled weather. this stationary boundary sitting right over us. it will continue today. we will get pummeled by showers and storms today. hour by hour, 7:30 a.m., action across the region. by 3:00, the story is very similar. wherever you see the deep red,

and you purie that. if you want to strain them so it is nice and smooth, you can do that. i like to leave them in there with the skin. i think it gives it a nice texture. the important thing about this, you can't put it in the freezer and leave it. every couple hours, take it out. and scrape that. that will give it a nice texture. it will be kind of icy. you can decide how often you do it depending on how slushy you want it. i like it a little more y that is all you have to do. this will be ready in about four hours in the freezer. when you take it out, you give it got final scrape. and we will go ahead and put this in able. you leave the skin on. you put in the basil at the very end. i know this sounds a little strange to have basil in a desert. but it gives it a very nice floral taste so it is not overpowering. and then we will

>> first, vanessa murdock is here with a look at the forecast. not looking so good out there. >> it is not. it is going to be basically a carbon copy of yesterday. dealing with more flooding. we already have had problems this morning. so expect the potential for flooding rains today. not everybody will be dealing with it. but there will be plenty of action out there. i want to start things off with the flood alert. we do have some to let you know about this morning. there is a flash flood watch in effect for the city - essex county, nassau county and north of the city. that flood watches in effect until 11:00 tonight. then you see the lighter colors. that is a flood advisory in effect until 7:15 a.m. for parts of mercer county and pertinent -- putnam county as well. you get the picture. it is going to be a soggy day. it has already begun. on the vortex satellite and radar, a lot of activity moving through this morning. making its way into dutchess county.

he was located last night on the turnpike in ridgefield park. police say he refused to pull over. then his car became disabled. when officers approached the car said -- they said, the driver had shot himself. he is now in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. police say a man on crutches is on a burglary spree in midtown. now one of his alleged victims have come forward to share her story. police say the man burglarized three apartments at a building on west 56th street tuesday out computers and jewelry from the building all while on crutches and wearing a medical do. one woman told cbs2 that her home was one of the apartments he hit. >> we came home. and the door was turned a little bit. and we walked in. it looks normal. but then we saw -- my boyfriend's brand-new laptop was gone. >> the building has a part- time doorman but he was reportedly on break at the time. a new jersey building was evacuated over fears it was on

grand avenue. engineers say the rear wall was going out about 6 inches and it was not safe. firefighters cut power and gas to the condominium and that residence out. >> i have been told that there is a private engineer reports and to the association several weeks ago. advising them of the condition of the back brick wall. and telling them that they needed to undertake immediate construction. apparently they were getting bids but have not started repairs will take. but no one will be allowed back until the building is safe. the condominium's insurance company is putting families and hotels. to a consumer alert for long island residents. tseg says it is raising electricity rates again. the power company says the average electric bills will go up about $10 -- $10 a month starting tomorrow. representatives blame the rate-
