innocent bystander was killed as a result of this shootout. the police scene now stretching for blocks here on 198th street, evidence markers show the bullet casings left over from this shootout early this morning. sources say the commotion started out in the street and then spread inside the store. they say that someone flagged two police officers down who went into the store and they were approached by a 30-year- old suspect who grabbed one of the officers' guns and began firing. a second officer responding back with shots, and that's once in the torso and that innocent bystander was shot and killed. now, witnesses say they saw the bystander being taken out of the deli. they say he is a 49-year-old man, a store employee, well known in the neighborhood who was just cleaning the shop at the time. >> i was upstairs in my apartment, and i just kept on hearing a whole bunch of shots. it actually didn't even sound like shots, so, you know, after about five or six of them went

police continue to investigate murder of a new york city woman, an employee of google while out jogging. >> janelle burrell join us live from outside google headquarters in chelsea. >>reporter: vanessa marcade had worked here at google for just under 10 years and her coworkers say she was a much loved member of her team, one who had a passion of volunteering and boston sports. and this morning police are still hunting for her killer. she had accomplished so her 27 years, an account manager at google, a limitless future ahead of her, only to end in what investigators describe as a vicious, brutal death. >> please use an abundance of caution. we don't know if this is a random act. we're asking you to be very careful. >>reporter: the small town of princeton, massachusetts, about 55 miles west of boston now swarming with detectives. it's where vanessa marcot was visiting her mother over the weekend. the young woman had gone out for a jog along a tree-lined

finally opened the door and grabbed the -- put the car in park and grabbed the key. >> the wrong-way driver suffered a medical emergency and drove for a mile and a half before the car was stopped. new jersey congressman frank palone, jr. is calling on the house to approve immediate funding to fight zika. palone, a democrat has criticized republicans for refusing to approve president obama's request for $1.9 billion. the congressman will address the conference later this morning in edison. meanwhile, officials in florida say gli ka may be heading north. the florida health department is investigating what could be the first case of zika contracted in palm beach county. the patient involved recently traveled south to the miel-dade county area, so it's -- the miami-dade county area, so it's possible the infection took place there. governor rick scott wants students to be taught zika protection measure when is they return to school. delta airlines still

to create jobs or boost the economy. the kansas city water park where a 10-year-old boy was killed is scheduled to reopen tomorrow, though the ride where the accident happened will remain closed. police say caleb schwab broke his neck while riding down the verruckt water slide. he was in a raft with two women who were unrelated to him. they suffered minor facial injuries. the water park says the rides are inspected daily. >> we honestly don't know investigation -- a full investigation is necessary. all our rides are inspected everyday, and our rides are inspected by an outside party before the season starts. >> the 17-story water slide sends riders plummeting at speeds up to 70 miles per hour before opening in 2014 the slide faced multiple delays. tests with sandbags showed rafts literally flying off the slide. the ride was also limited to children over 14, but that

forecast for today. but, first, city bike is rolling into another manhattan neighborhood and some in the area are outraged. >> many people on the block include the disabled or families with children. they say the bikes pose a problem. cbs 2 is demanding answers. >>reporter: metal bike racks line the stretch of 91st street between second and third avenue. closed to vehicle traffic for 40 years, this street is also home to many elderly and disabled residents, and people like maria laguna i'm very unstable on my feet. if i see a bunch of bikes coming to me, what's going to happen? >>reporter: the debate is nothing new, but the people who live here say this time it's different. it blocks the only handicap entrance to the park. now when people try to go out, they run into this row of bikes. tony lives on this street. he's blind and relies on his dog baby to help him around. but baby couldn't figure out a way around the metal racks. >> i think it's an absolute

eight people inside of the deli when those shots rang out and they were at close range, within two to three feet. one person is dead this morning, an innocent bystander. the suspect was shot and is now in police custody. now, sources say this is what happened. it all started at a deli on the corner over here. you can't see it because there is a massive police scene going on right now. the suspect got into an altercation with a clerk at this deli, then he walked across the street to on the corner. that clerk followed him in to warn the store owners and customers that this man was coming inside. the police were called, and when they came to grab the suspect and take him out of the store, the suspect grabbed one of the officers' guns from their holster and began firing, almost emptying the clip, 15 shots rang out in that close proximity. and the store clerk from the original deli was shot and

do not believe that these crimes are connected, but as you said, the similarities are certainly striking. now, vanessa mercot, she had work here at google for just under two years, her coworkers disrying her as a beloved member -- describing her as a belovedded member of their team. this morning detectives are still searching for her killer. she had accomplished so much in her 27 years, an account manager at google, a limitless future ahead of her, only to end in what investigators describe as death. >> please, use an abundance of caution. we don't know if this is a random act. we're asking you to be very careful. >>reporter: the small town of princeton, massachusetts, about 55 miles west of boston now swarming with detectives. it's where vanessa mercot was visiting her mother over the weekend. the young woman had gone out for a jog along a tree-lined route, and when she didn't return, her mom called police. her body was found sunday evening in woods off of the road about a half mile from her

completely. chris and mary. >> all right, alex, thank you. more breaking news now out of the bronx. a chaotic scene this morning in bedford park. bullets fly inside a crowded bodega as police struggle with a suspect who allegedly grabbed an officer's gun >> a deli worker was killed, the suspect wounded and now in police custody. cbs 2's magdalena doris joins us live from bedford park with more. magdalena. >>reporter: we just got updates from the bronx borough commander here moments ago. police have been investigating since 1:00 this morning when they say t identified by police as efrem guzman. he is 30 years old. he was shot in the torso by officers and a 49-year-old man, a deli worker was killed during this gunfire exchange. now, police say this all happened at a deli that is now being blocked by this white truck. the 49-year-old store clerk and efrem guzman got into an altercation there. guzman then cross the street and then headed to this deli,

clerk followed him in, warning the customers and the employees that were inside that deli that guzman was coming. officers were eventually called to the scene from the 52nd police precinct, and when they entered into this store, they got into phase cal altercation with 30-year-old guzman. guzman then pulled the gun from an officer's holster with one pull and started shooting. police say he let off 15 rounlds inside of that store. there -- 15 rounds inside of that store. there were multi store at the time. so this was all in a very close range, maybe two to three feet. once guzman started to shoot, officers then pointed their gun towards him, shooting three times. they shot guzman in the torso. he was taken into custody, but while this gunfire was going off, police say guzman's bullets hit that 49-year-old store clerk that he initially got into an argument with. that store clerk died. neighbors heard all of these

apartment, and i just kept on hearing a whole bunch of shots. it actually didn't even sound like shots, so, you know, after about five or six of them went off, then i realized they were gunshots, at least about 15 rounds went off. frightening to live in a neighborhood that all this, you know, violence is occurring. >>reporter: again, police say efrem guzman, 30 years old was shot in the torso. he was taken to st. barnabus hospital and is in stable condition the 49-year-old store clerk from the deli down the street here has been identified, but his family has not been notified of his death as of yet. as for the two officers who were involved in this police- involved shooting, they are okay. they were taken to the hospital to be monitored. we're live in the bedford park section of the bronx this morning, magdalena doris, cbs 2 news. >> thank you. new this morning police are asking for help finding this man caught at the counter of a high-end retailer in

it happened last january 30th around 1:00 p.m. at the shenel store in midtown manhattan. police say the victim whose name is on the card is a 26- year-old queens man from long island city. new this morning, police in the bronx are looking for three robbers who stole a 59- year-old man's cell phone and knocked him out. it happened early monday morning on east gun hill road in norwood. the suspect attacked the victim, then a second man when they tried to get the phone back. the man whose phone was stolen being punched and kicked repeatedly. the two victims were treated at jacoby medical center and released. a new court fight in the scandal over the george washington bridge. the law firm hired by governor christie's office to investigate the lane closures in fort lee says it will fight subpoenas to testify at an upcoming trial. former christie aide richard kelly and former port authority executive bill berone go on trial next month. they're accused of closing the lanes in 2013 for political

more this morning. magdalena. >>reporter: chris and mary, we just got an update from police minutes ago from the bronx borough chief who tells us this all happened in very tight quarters inside of this bodega on the corner here of east 198th street and valentine avenue. nearly 20 shots ringing out and people were within two and three feet. two officers trying to shield people inside from those bullets that were ringing out. now a store clerk is dead, a suspect was shot and is now in police custody after grabbing the magazine. police say 30-year-old efrem guzman got into an argument with a 49-year-old store clerk at a deli across the street. he then went into the next deli trying to get into an altercation with those store clerks and customers inside. the initial clerk followed him in to warn the people that he's familiar with about guzman, and that's when the police were called. when police arrived from the
