one of those people was killed are also learning the two other people injured are teenage girls with possible injuries to their head. so far we have seen investigators in and out of the church. this is what the scene looked like earlier this morning. they been collecting evidence for the better part of this morning. it appears to be a large part of their investigation we also saw them bring a man as they tried to piece together what happens leading up to the shooting. the hudson county prosecutor's office is the lead investigator on this case. we are waiting for more information from them. but three people were shot overnight and one of those dead. so for we've not learned the identity of the person who was killed.

that is the holy ghost tabernacle ministries. this church has a community center. it appears inside that hall last night is where those gunshots erupted around 11:30 p.m. we want to show you video of what the scene looked like earlier. we know so far three people were shot. one of those people, a man and teenaged girls were injured, heads. we have seen from the new jersey police and hudson county prosecutor's office in and out of the church collecting evidence, processing the scene inside. so far, though, the prosecutor's office has not released the name of the man killed. they haven't yet told us the condition of those two girls who were injured, but the prosecutor's office now the lead investigators on this case. again, one man killed and two teenagers injured in this gunfire overnight.

last night. we want to show you video of what the scene looked like earlier. three people were struck during that gunfire, one of those people, a young man, was killed. we are learning that the two others who were injured are teenage girls with injuries to their head. we spoke with a man who knows someone who was actually inside that party last night. he says he heard the gunshots and then describes for us what happened next. >> we heard gunshots of time. wasn't really sure if it was gunshots or not, but then we saw police lights and everything. then my friend called around the corner, check and see if her niece and nephews were fine and everything. we had no idea it was here. who would think in jersey city that something would happen at a church? >> and late into the night and into this morning, we saw investigators in and out of that church here on communipaw avenue

cancellations and delays on delta flights following outages earlier this week. three firefighters are in the hospital this morning in critical condition after a major fire in the bronx. >> it broke out yesterday at a home in wakefield and quickly spread. cbs 2's andrea grimes is live where the firefighters are being treated. andrea. >> chris and mary, two of those firefighters still in critical condition were injured in that fire. a third nearly had his arm torn off. he was coming from queens the bronx to help out. all three remain in critical condition here this morning. >> the four-alarm fire started by kids playing with a stove, moved fast on 235th street in the wakefield section. by the end of the day, four firefighters were sent to the hospital from two separate scenes. >> we deal with a lot of tough things, but it was a tough day for the fire department. >> it all started when flames broke out at a home here early yesterday afternoon, spreading

especially difficult and dangerous for crews trying to put it out. 51-year-old firefighter joseph brady had a heart attack. 34-year-old firefighter patrick morelo had severe heatstroke, both in critical condition. >> heatstroke is a very serious injury. the man's temperature was extremely high. his heart rate was extremely high. >> 54-year-old lieutenant joseph was treated at the hospital and released. since so many bronx crews were at the fire scene, other companies were called to provide backup staffing. that's how a fourth firefighter was severely hurt in a freak accident about three miles away at westchester avenue and waters place. 44-year-old firefighter sean orourke nearly had his arm torn off when his truck crashed into an elevated subway beam.

was waving to warn someone and didn't see the beam. >> to have life-threatening injuries, then when we are here, to have a member come in. i saw his arm and shoulder. i was very upset. >> mayor stopped by for an update yesterday. fdny commissioner daniel saying it's a day for prayers for their members. >> o'rourke was in surgery last night. doctors were trying to save his arm. this morning, the fire department could not tell us if they were successful. reporting live outside medical center, andrea grimes, krshg baskerville 2 news. -- cbs 2 news. a group of hikers is safe this morning after being rescued. according to police, 15 hikers stayed out past dark on a trail near a rock formation known as the giant stairs and were unable to see their way out. the last two hikers who are disabled were finally brought back at 3:00 this morning. some of the hikers were rescued by boat. others were able to walk back. park police say no one was hurt.

live gun demonstration in punta gorda, florida. a woman was shot to death by a police officer in front of more than 30 people attending a citizen police academy class. the officer was showing participants how to use a gun during a live role-playing exercise. the police department calling this a horrible accident saying the gun was meant to shoot a blank. they are investigating what went wrong. the police officer involved is on administrative leave. four people are recovering from injuriess woman slammed into a bus stop. three people were hurt along with the driver but we're told the injuries are not life threatening. it happened on union turnpike in new hyde park. police say a woman had a mechanical issue with her tire that forced her to veer off the road. in the bronx, a driver was injured when a giant tree fell on his pickup truck. the incident happened just before 4:00 yesterday afternoon near herring avenue. the driver was taken to st. barnabus hospital for observation.

new this morning, three babies in maryland tested positive for a potentially deadly bacteria. the babies were being treated at prince george's hospital neonatal intensive care unit. the bacteria can be deadly for people with compromised immune systems. hospital officials say the bacteria may have originated in water pipes. crews will begin disinfecting the plumbing today. the zika virus continues to spread here in the health department confirms a newborn in texas has died as a result of zika. the baby girl was born with birth defects including microcephaly at a hospital in suburban houston. the child's mother traveled to el salvador during her pregnancy. in florida, there are new cases in miami-dade county. that includes a person from palm bsh beach county.
