reading about 77 degrees now, but it's going to feel a lot hotter as the day progresses. people here in the city bracing for another day of intense heat. >> offensively hot. it offenders my sensibilities that it is this hot. >> i feel like i'm walking in a hot bath, an unpleasant hot bath. >> the humidity and heat index potentially dangerous. >> it's very draining and it's hard to breathe. >> which is why staying hydrated is crucial. >> we keep refilling our bottles every 10 minutes. >> we rest every 30 minutes or so. >> thursday the weather system brought heavy rain to parts of our area, lightning setting off this fire in new jersey, a bolt hitting electrical wires.

west side. he's accused of attacking a woman walking her dog at 5:20 in the morning near 107th street. police say he put her in a head lock and she hit him in the groin. he tried to kiss her. the woman bit the man on the lips and ran. the women we spoke to praised the woman for reacting the way she did. >> that would be my gut reaction to just give him hell and hope for the best, but i think that's all fight or flight takes over. >> police describe the suspect as hispanic between 20 and 30 years old, muscular with brown curly hair. the search continues for an accused serial arsonist. investigators say the arsonist has struck three times in the area since last month. police say he targeted a consignment shop on 81st street for a second time last week. surveillance video from july 26th shows the suspect throw

he appears to pour a liquid before igniting it. people walking by called 9-1-1. >> everybody's worried. i'm worried. the woman next door is worried. >> it's horrible, obviously but he's mentally ill probably. >> he also tried setting fire to a door, a dry cleaners on 82nd street. shops in the area placed posters in their windows. the virginia teenager who scaled the side tower is charged with criminal trespassing. he used suction cups to reach the 21st floor before officers yanked him inside through an open window. sources say republican party officials will meet with representatives in donald trump's campaign in orlando florida today. some describe it as an emergency meeting to discuss the state of his campaign. meanwhile, trump isn't backing

this was for the pan mass challenge, dana farber cancer research fundraiser. you've got to make sure you exercise at the right time of the day and wear the right gear or you're rethinking the exercise plan. beautiful skies giving away to the ulo and then the cumulonimbus and that's when you see the heavy rain. in the city it's quiet, and it's a little cooler than wind out of the west at 5. relative humidity at 93%. from 68 to 77 to 78 your spread, these numbers, compared to yesterday, it's a little cooler on average. it feels a little bit better. dew points still soupy and high at 71 in the city, but even dew points when you look at all of the reporting stations down maybe a degree or 2, so we're off to a more comfortable start

we're actually warmer this afternoon. and then when you factor in those high dew points later you've got a real feel of 105. it's now an excessive heat warning for the city and it's a heat advisory for almost everybody. temperatures, those real feel numbers between 100 and 110 during the course of the first half of the weekend. the rain right now, we saw some heavier rain. it's just weakening a bit down through sussex into morris over into somerset, warren don county. much of the area is rain free, but late in the day and around game time, that's when we see this line of thunderstorms. we learned yesterday it's intense heavy rain with lots of lightning with this kind of heat. so we'll be watching for that round and then another round, far more miss than hit, but individual storms are strong for your saturday into sunday

but some say they are losing valuable parking spaces to the new bike lanes. the local community board voted against the bike lanes in may but the mayor says his plan will improve safety on queens boulevard. surveillance video released of a suspect in an attempted robbery in brooklyn. it happened tuesday in williamsburg. the suspect allegedly followed a 27-year-old woman to her apartment and forced his way in. he pulled a knife from the kitchen sink and pointed it then he dropped it and ran. alex rodriguez plays his final game for the yankees in the bronx. they'll faced tampa bay rays. and at the olympics simone maneul becomes the first michelle obama to win a gold medal in swimming and michael phelps brew away rival ryan

in the games. an investigation underway in new jersey after a youth sports association is repeatedly vandalized and robbed in ocean county. this time the suspects were caught on camera. meg baker has the story. >> the fall season tarts september 10th for the lake hurst manchester soccer association, but the teams have already suffered a loss. >> just in this latest break-in we're estimated around 1500 in damage and probably another 500 in the product that was stolen. >> the association has been burglarized three times and vandalized relentlessly. you can see remnants of blue paint still on the cement. this last time, the four suspected teens were caught on camera. >> it's really messed up how people can just think they can do this to our fields because it costs a lot of money to repair. >> in the latest incident on sunday around 3:30 a.m., the thieves got away with all the

your high of 93, 10 degrees above normal. that's compounded by the humidity. 97 the record. sun's up 6:04. 7:57, fantastic plane. right now we have 68 in liberty. that's one of the cooler readings. dew points in the 70s, so it's soupy. it's very mild out the door. freehold the dew point right now is 75 degrees. some showers pushing through. this is light rain. this has weakened somewhat as it has headed out of pennsylvania into parts of jersey. we are going to see the potential for more storms, a hot ending to the workweek. peak heat will be tomorrow, and then again we see some isolated storms. it's three more miss than hit on saturday. sunday proximity to that front gives more of an opportunity for some of that rain. remember if that's a travel day or you have plans, i think you'll see more activity on

restaurant. patrons who drank beverages at trento restaurant should be -- business owners of the upper east side are on high alert as the search continues for an accused serial arsonist. cbs2's valerie castro tells us how merchants are banding together. >> surveillance video shows a good samaritan pulling a flaming piece of cardboard away from an upper consignment shop on july 26th. in this part of the video you can see the suspect throw several pieces of cardboard in front of the store while wearing a winter coat, hat and sunglasses. he pours a liquid and lights it. the people nearby noticed the flames and called 9-1-1 saving the store from any real damage until the suspect returned a week later.
