as left two men dead. >> the flames broke out last night in a house on 14th avenue in belmar. several local fire departments responded to the call. cbs2's aioli bowman joins us live from belmar. >> reporter: the investigation continues as to what caused the fire and police have been on scene here all morning and take a look at the damage. you can see the flames were just relentless leaving the front porch here unrecognizable. the mayor of belmar confirming today that at 212 14th avenue. they were father and son sources tell us. we don't know their ages at this time. this house is a year-round rental can after the fire started last night at arounded:30 it cook trues from five -- 9:30 last night it took crews if five different departments to pull it out. the flames peeled paint and shattered through windows and left the -- ate through front beams and left the walls inside charred. now we spoke with one neighbor who says he woke up to smoke. >> i didn't see any flames.

walking out of the 107th police precinct, charged with two counts of murder. 35-year-old oscar morel said nothing and gave no explanation for the killings of imam maulama akonjee and his assistant, tharam uddin. both men were buried yesterday. mourners at their funerals say they know why the friends were killed. and i they want justice. >> two people just got murdered and nypd saying this might not be a hate crime? i would like to ask is it then? come on somebody coming up from behind and shooting you for many no reason. come on this is common sense. >> reporter: the top brass says they've got strong evidence to back up the charges. starting with what happened before the double homicide. at 1:50 saturday afternoon a hit and run witness and surveillance video placed morel's car at the scene of a crash. moments later, three miles away police say they found surveillance of morel getting into that same car after fatally shooting the two men.

for the killings of imam maulama akonjee and his assistant, tharam uddin. both men were buried yesterday. mourners at their funerals say they know why the friends were killed. and they want justice. >> two people just got murdered and nypd saying this might not be a hate crime? i would like to ask nypd what is it then? what is it then? come on somebody coming up from behind and shooting you for no reason. imam and his assista. >> reporter: the top brass says they've got strong evidence to back up the charges. starting with what happened before the double homicide. at 1:50 saturday afternoon a hit and run witness and surveillance video placed morel's car at the scene of a crash. moments later, three miles away police say they found surveillance of morel getting into that same car after fatally shooting the two men. >> and we have looked at the two cars and they were identical. we looked at the stickers and decals on each of the
