>> the kid came to america for a bright future, no be killed. >> reporter: the medical examiner is working to determine the cause of ashdeep kaur's death. she was found neck ached and bruised inside of her home at 1,112th street. >> you know the water? it was not water, and she was in the tubment. >> reporter: the girl's father found found her when he returned home, asking the super to he was overcome with grief and fainted at the scene. >> he was shocked, and they can put him in the ambulance. >> reporter: ashdeep kaur moved from india to be in the care of her father and stepmother 2 months ago. >> little one told me always she sometimes beat her up. >> reporter: sources say the investigation is now focused on the stepmother, the person who was watching ashdeep kaur at the time of her death.

that? why? >> reporter: and when police ran into the stepmother, shes were two other children who are now in the custody of acs. the medical examiner is working to determine the cause of ashdeep kaur's death. magdalena doris, cbs 2 news. >> thank you. police have released surveillance video for a teen's killer in the bronx. it was wednesday afternoon in the claremont section. dahntay gordon was pronounced dead after being shot in the chest, and a 21 year old man was shot in the stomach and is in critical condition. florida officials say zika cases have shown up outside of the zika zone. now there's a warning about miami beach. brian conybeare reports.

most of us dry this morning, however, it's still humid as i mentioned. circulation around the area of high pressure, tapping into the moisture and warm air. here's the cold front, and the shower and thunderstorm activity you expect to be generated along the frontal boundary, and like a huge broom it will sweep out of here and usher in dryer air on the backside, but we have to wait until tomorrow for that to happen. here's how the future cast will see this playing out. we head into the thunderstorms potentially. could see activity early on your sunday morning, and really, since we head into the afternoon, we will start to see the activity along the line. 6:00or 7:00 at night, the line will push in. showers and thunderstorms are

usual tricks on friday night after pulling a stunt that had his owners worried sick. >> he's my best friend. i'm a single guy, and i don't have kids yet. all my time i can, i spend it with him. we go running, and it's our routine every day. >> reporter: on thursday morning, the year and a half old white shepherd broke the routine, running away. >> reporter: he has never done this before? >> never. >> reporter: miguel and his brother francisco believe the dog was spood before by the storms, and somehow got beyond the gate and took off. >> it was really, really, like empty because when we get here, the dog is always here waiting for us at the door. >> reporter: the family posted about the missing pup on facebook, and hours later, they got a call the nypd discovered the dog in gravesend bay, a couple of miles for their home.

people were pinned to their seats and trapped inside. >> they can't come out of the bus. they were just in the bus, and the guy wanted help, and i was scaring. that's all i could think. the guy is going to die. >> one passenger remains in critical condition, and five others are in serious condition in newark. investigators are trying to determine the exact ca the accident. a queens woman came face-to- face with a dangerous burglar in her own home. she wiped away tears being escorted into an ambulance yesterday afternoon. investigators said the man broke into the home on forest parkway, put a knife to the woman's throat and forced her into a closet. she said she was later able to escape. she spoke briefly with dave carlin. >> reporter: hello, ma'am, are you okay? >> i'm okay. >> reporter: i'm glad to hear that. >> good thing he didn't hurt her.

very frighten. -- very frightening. a quick-thinking store owner tried to turn the table on a pair of homeowners, but they escaped after a slow police response in new jersey. >> reporter: armed robbers enter the cell phone store in paterson on wednesday. the store clerk, tommy torres says he ran out the back floor closed the front gate, trapping the robbers, and police arrived 18 minutes after the initial call because it was categorized as shoplifting. >> the word gun is used, and at that point, within 11 seconds, a car is dispatched, and the priority has changed in the system, and police cars are on the scene.

2022. happening today, nearly 7 miles of manhattan are offlimits to cars as summer streets returns for its final saturday. there's numerous activities including joe bay, zip lining or sliding down one of the biggest water slides in the city. it runs along lafayette street and park avenue up to 72nd street, and it lasts until 1:00 p.m. the bronx zoo has new two california lion pups, and they were born a few weeks ago. jill nicolini was there for the big reveal. >> i think the babies are really sweet. >> reporter: meet the cute little sea lion pups born a few days apart in june. one for mother indy and the other from margaretta. >> it's doublely exciting because their father was rescued from the west coast,

euthanized. he came here and contributed new genes to our population. >> reporter: the females will grow to about 250 pounds, and the males can weigh up to four times as much. >> we know there's one male, and we are not sure on the other, but we hope it's a female. what do you love about the sea lion so much? >> they have no bones, and they are so cute. >> i like they do tricks. they jump around all the time. >> they are water. >> they are mostly known for their barking, and people love the sea lions because they are always active. >> reporter: did you say barking? >> he's barking right there. >> reporter: that's why adults and especially children love to crowd around the sea lion pool for the twice daily feedings at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. any idea what you would call them? >> amelia and starfish.

bernardino national forest. they usually work for the state department of environmental conservation. some are forest rangers, and others have been certified to fight wild fires. the fire has scorched 37,000 acres and destroyed 100 homes. police are investigating a break-in at the famous home of the brady bunch. the los angeles police say the burglars were confronted by the homeowners and quickly ran away. a neighbor tweeted this is the second time the house has been broken into in years. atf agents say a fugitive with a flare for theatrical makeup is in custody in massachusetts. >> there are pictures, and not these pictures, but there's pictures of 31-year-old sean miller, and police say miller altered his appearance to look older, and he was arrested in south yarmoth, 2 hours north of
